“A Little Gravity Please”
(Cont’d from Katie’s “Let’s Get to Work”)
===============================
Location: SFA
Stardate: 2070422.1137
Scene: Holodeck (Engineering section)
“N…No problem,” Cochrane said between laughs.
“I can see I’ve got a real joker on my hands,” Ginny said taking Cochrane’s hand.
“Sorry,” he said with a grin. “Let’s get started on that gravity before we both float away.”
Cochrane let go of Ginny’s arm when her feet were back on the ground. Then he turned and began assessing the gravity control systems.
“Ginny, try to reroute power from every system accept life support and environmental control.”
“On it.”
Quickly, Ginny's fingers danced across the panels but before she could make any advances the lights dimmed and all the control panels went dead in a shower of sparks.
“We blew a power relay.”
Cochrane grabbed a tricorder, a tool kit, and opened the access panel that was still smoking. Scanning the panel, he determined they had blown a power relay.
“Shut down the plasma flow to this sector.”
“Got it,” she replied pushing in the control sequence.
Cochrane took a regenerator and attempted to repair the damaged plasma conduit but it was to damaged.
“There is too much damage, I will have to find a replacement piece. Look for something I can use as a replacement conduit”
Ginny began clearing debris near a replicator in the corner while Cochrane used a cutting tool to remove the damaged section of conduit.
“Here,” Cochrane said sending the damaged piece floating across the room to Ginny, “Cut a section a little bigger than this.”
Ginny held onto the replicator and reached for the damaged piece as it floated towards her. Once she retrieved it, she removed the access panel under the replicator, took a cutting tool from her tool belt, and began removing a section of conduit.
“Here you go,” she said floating over to Cochrane.
“Thanks,” he said taking the newly removed conduit. “Be ready to re-establish power flow.”
“Understood,” Ginny said moving back to the control panel.
Quickly but carefully, Cochrane used a laser tool to bond the new conduit in the hole left by the removed piece.
“Try it now,” he said moving away from the panel. **I hope this works.**
“Here we go,” she said activating the plasma flow.
As Ginny restarted the flow, Cochrane scanned the patched conduit to make sure there were no leaks. The control panels soon came back online.
“There doesn’t seem to be any damage to the gravity control systems. Reinitializing now”
A second later objects began falling all over the room. As Cochrane dove toward a control table, he was nicked in the temple by a falling hatch cover as he tried to duck.
“I was so wrapped up in the repairs I forgot we were in a floating junk yard,” he said humorously as he wiped a trickle of blood from his left eye.
“Let me get a look at that,” Ginny said moving towards him.
“I’m fine let’s get this repair finished first. I’m fine,” he said as he began checking the status of all the ships systems.
“You are injured, you need to scan yourself first,” Ginny insisted, moving to Cochrane’s left side and scanning his injury with a medical tricorder.
“When you get done, let’s try to get that force field in place. I am picking up hull breaches all over the ship.”
“I can see you are not all fun and games,” she said putting the tricorder away. “Didn’t your file say you were a father?”
Pausing for a second, Cochrane replied, “Yes I have four year old twins, Elijah and Leah.”
“Don’t you think you should be more careful?” she said glancing over her shoulder to gage her colleague’s reaction.
“I always have them foremost in my thoughts,” he said in a deadpan tone. “How’s those force fields coming?”
