“Start of Training”

========

Location: STARFLEET ACADEMY (SFA)

Stardate: 2.80831.2228

Scene: Advanced Command Training Holodeck

Cadet Evelyn Jane Rosslyn entered the main holodeck used for Advanced
Command Training on EARTH, looking around at the plain-looking interior of
the room as she walked. At the current moment, there was nothing being
simulated in the holodeck and for that reason the room’s photonic generation
grid was readily visible. As her gaze went from the ceiling to the walls,
she eventually noticed the two figures standing in the middle of the room
awaiting her final approach.

Pushing all final nervous thoughts into the back of her mind with the ready
professionalism of someone on the fast track to a department head position
in the fleet, Rosslyn advanced the few strides separating her from the
instructors. As she came within a few metres of both of them, she stood at
attention with her eyes and body facing straight forward.

“Cadet Rosslyn reporting as ordered sirs,” she said.

“Ah yes, Cadet Rosslyn,” Lieutenant Halois said, looking at the Cadet with a
smile. “Welcome to your final test for the Advanced Command Training
program. I am Lieutenant Halois and I will be overseeing the finalizing of
any marks that are taken during this class as well as conducting you through
all of the odd-numbered situations.”

“And I am Lieutenant Sevlock,” chimed in the other figure as he looked at
the Cadet with a neutral expression on his face. “I will be conducting all
of the odd-numbered simulations, including the one that you start with.
Since your academy major was in medicine, we will tailor the situation
accordingly. Do you understand?”

“Yes sir,” came the reply from the Cadet.

“Excellent,” Sevlock said with a nod of his head. “Computer, load program
Halois-Sevlock 1 and begin paused.” After a beep of acknowledgement, the
familiar holodeck grid was replaced by a realistic representation of what
appeared to be a sickbay. There were multiple biobeds in the room as well
as all of the medical diagnostic and treatment equipment that Rosslyn had
become used to dealing with over her previous years at Starfleet Academy.

“This,” Sevlock announced as he walked around the room. “Is a holographic
representation of the USS COMFORT, a real medical support vessel attached to
the First Fleet. It is often seen in the vicinity of EARTH and for that
reason is a very popular recreation for students interested in familiarizing
themselves with the insides of a sickbay on a vessel of its class.”

“This particular sickbay configuration,” Sevlock continued, coming to a stop
in front of the biobed closest to the centre of the room as he spoke. “Is
also one that is popular on many hospitals here on EARTH and in other
Federation installations around the galaxy. For that reason, you may be
familiar with it.”

“In any case,” the Vulcan/Human hybrid concluded. “Your training will be
taking place on this holographic USS COMFORT. Your primary tasks will be
performed in sickbay, although should you feel the need to leave the sickbay
you will find that the holo-representation extends to the rest of the ship
as well. However, be advised that Lieutenant Halois and I will be grading
you on efficiency as well as results, so do not leave the sickbay unless you
feel it is absolutely necessary to do so.”

Sevlock briefly consulted a PADD to make sure that he’d said everything he
wanted to say, before looking back at the Cadet. “Do you understand these
instructions so far Cadet?” he asked.

“Yes sir,” repeated Rosslyn.

“Very well,” Sevlock answered. “In the first level of your final training
test, you will be dealing with a single patient. This patient will be
coming to you with plasma burns from an explosion that happened in
engineering just a few moments ago. However, the patient has a unique
physiology that makes him unresponsive to normal sedatives. You need to
sedate him before you can treat his wounds, but in order to do so you will
need to draw on your experience as well as the training you received in your
major at the academy to find an effective alternative to the normal
sedatives used in a sickbay.”

“Understood sir,” Rosslyn said.

“Computer,” Sevlock said. “Resume program.” A few minutes after his
instructions, the doors to the sickbay opened and three figures entered, two
of which were propping up a third man that appeared to be drifting in and
out of consciousness.

“Put him on the bed,” the Cadet ordered, grabbing a medical tricorder from a
nearby tray as she made her way to the central biobed by which Sevlock was
standing. A few moments later, the two officers had their prone companion
on the bed as well.

NRPG: And so begins the next training session!

Welcome Brenna, to the FRPG and to your Advanced Command Training class. As
Ran mentioned before, my name is Rahul Chandra and I’ll be your other
instructor for this particular training class. I’ll be in charge of
administering all of the odd-level training scenarios while Ran will take
care of all the even-level ones.

Of course the implication there is that there are additional levels to this
training, which is true. Once you’ve posted a solution to the current
problem you have, the parameters of the training exercise will be reset and
Ran will send out another post with a harder and more involved medical
problem for you to solve.

However, I’m getting ahead of myself a bit here. Your job is to solve this
problem through writing a post that continues from this. Once you’ve done
that I’ll post corrections for the post. Corrections that I post will cover
mostly formatting issues with perhaps a note or two on the content of the
actual post and should be out within a few days of you sending in your post.

As for the actual format itself, you can use the above post in conjunction
with the information contained in Ran’s earlier “Book 2” e-mail to come up
with perfect formatting for your post. The only place where my post
deviates from the formatting guide would be in the title bar, as there is no
“continued from” line. This is because it’s the first post and therefore
it’s the only post for which that is true. All other posts from here on in
should have that line in them.

Aside from that, I think that the instructions given in the actual post are
pretty self-explanatory. However, should you have any questions about
anything at all, feel free to e-mail them to Ran or I and we will attempt to
provide you the answers that you seek.

So, once again welcome to the FRPG and have fun writing your reply! I very
much look forward to reading it :)
