“Second Level”
(contd from ‘Lavender Blue’)

Location: SFA
SD: 2.80906.0123
Scene: ACT Holodeck

Cadet Evelyn Rosslyn glanced behind her, upon hearing footsteps. The young woman immediately stood in attention as Lieutenants Etallia Halois and Sevlock strode towards her. Sevlock halted in front of the biobed and examined the patient the cadet treated with a keen eye. Rosslyn waited silently with baited breath, nervous over her performance in the first stage.

Sevlock stepped away from the patient and informed. “Your performance in level one was satisfactory as you’ve handled the situation as expected from someone with your academy background.”

“Thank you, sir,” Evelyn said, nodding.

The half-Vulcan instructor added, noting something down on the PADD. “The patient is right now stabilized, which was the result we expected for this level.” He entered a few more notes in his PADD regarding Rosslyn’s performance in the first level of her phase 1 training. Sevlock conversed with Etallia for a few minutes, where the two instructors briefly discussed the cadet’s performance and both stood out of ear shot from her.

Phase 1 of Advanced Command Training tested the candidates’ basic skills, gained in the Academy and command abilities in a controlled environment and required them to participate in a scenario, befitting their educational background. If the cadet had successfully passed the first phase, he or she would move on to the second one, which took place in the fleet.

The cadets who were accepted into the ACT program were considered the cream of the crop. Competition for entrance into the program was fierce, with many aspiring for leadership posts in the fleet. Successful graduates rose to department head positions faster than the rest of their classmates.

Cadet Rosslyn questioned after a minute of silence passed between them. “Sir, what happens now?”

Sevlock explained. “You will proceed to the next level, where Halois will be briefing you on the details of the simulation.”

“Yes sir,” Evelyn acknowledged.

The Vulcan/Human hybrid concluded with a nod. “Good luck, cadet.” He stepped aside to make way for the other instructor.
Etallia took a few steps forward until she was only a few feet from the younger woman. “Cadet Rosslyn, nice work in level one,” she said with a smile “Before you commence the next stage in your training, I want to brief you on the simulation.” The Betazoid/Bajoran paused for a moment before continuing. “The simulation in this stage will have a higher level of difficulty than your first one and will require a little creativity on your part, when working out a solution.” A second later, Halois questioned. “Do you understand?”

Evelyn nodded. “Yes ma’am.”

“Good,” the senior instructor stated placidly. “Computer, load program Halois-Sevlock-2.”

[[Program loaded,]] came the deadpan voice of the computer. Within the next few seconds, the nearly empty sickbay of the holographic medical vessel, USS COMFORT, morphed into a very hectic one filled with medical personnel scurrying around the place. One of the holograms, a young Bajoran nurse slid by the cadet and was carrying a tray holding a bunch of medical instruments.

The doors to sickbay opened and three crewmen entered, carrying an injured person with purple sores visible on his skin. The patient was transferred gently to a biobed, where he laid, writhing in pain.

Etallia began explaining, motioning Rosslyn to follow her to the new arrival’s biobed. “Now, you will still be dealing with a single patient, belonging to the same species as the one in your previous level and you’re already aware of his unique physiology.” Both the instructor and the cadet stood on opposite sides of the biobed. “However the medical problem is a bit more complicated.” She handed a medical tricorder to Evelyn and ordered. “Scan the patient and report his symptoms.”

“Aye ma’am,” Evelyn complied as she proceeded to scan the injured man. After completing the task, Rosslyn reported. “Scans show signs of internal bleeding and inflammation of the organ tissues. Patient’s sustained bruises on his skin and is suffering from dehydration, nausea and vomiting.”

“Your prognosis is correct, cadet.” Halois responded. “During an away mission to an uninhabited planet, the patient contracted a disease not listed in the medical database upon exposure to a native plant.” She then informed. “Your task is to find a cure for this disease and treat the patient.”

“Understood, ma’am.”

“Also,” the half-Betazoid added as two holographic medical officers, a human man and a Vulcan woman appeared. “A small team will be assigned to you for this job.” Indicating to the two holograms, Halois stated. “These two officers will assist you in coming up with a treatment for your patient.” She immediately inquired. “Do you have any questions?”

“No, ma’am,” Cadet Rosslyn replied, observing her new teammates.

“Well you may begin,” Etallia concluded, stepping away from the biobed to allow the cadet and her team to start working on their patient.

NRPG: Here is level 2 of your phase 1 training :) Have fun!

As you can see the problem in this level is slightly harder than the one in the previous level. Like the previous stage, you post a solution to the medical problem. You also get some holographic medical officers to interact with. Also please make sure the length of your post is no less than 500 words and you can refer to Book 2- Protocol that I sent to you a while back for formatting rules and Rahul’s corrections to your previous post. You have a week to write the post.

Your first post was very good, so I look forward to reading what you come up with in this level :)

Finally, if you have any questions or need any help, please let Rahul and I know and we’ll be happy to help.
