“A belated Christmas”
(Cont’d from “think of me…”)

Location: GS-2
Scene: Kat’s quarters
TI: After Steve’s post

"But it’s not standard, especially in these
circumstances, got it." Kat thought for a moment,
still groggy and annoyed that this was what was taking
up her time. "Why are you bringing this to me right
now?"

The hybrid turned a slight shade of red, "he keeps
calling, and I ran out of things to tell him."

"Of course, keep him busy while I get dressed"

The man who’d been thrust into the operations
department pretty much whether he liked it or not gave
her a small smile and headed from the room as Kat
disappeared into her bedroom and got dressed.

“Are you going back to work mummy?” She glanced down
at her daughter who had appeared from her bedroom
after Nick had left. The small half Klingon was
staring up at her with big brown eyes,

“Not for long honey, I’ve just got to go sort one or
two things out.” She leaned down and kissed her
daughter “I’ll be back before you get up in the
morning.”

El’hron glared at her but then sighed and nodded. “OK
mummy.”

Scene: Ops

Kat stepped from the turbolift followed by Harper
Ranta, the small commander was not privy to the
reports from the PROPHECY but she was still in touch
with Mad’hron when times allowed. Harper took up a
position out of sight of the view screen while Kat
leaned against her console.

“On screen.” She ordered softly

The man on Ops pressed a button a Bolian appeared Kat
blinked glanced at Harper who raised an eyebrow.

[[Finally a commander.]] The Bolian uttered I demand
to be allowed to dock.

“Well you have Rixx’s pompousness I’ll give you that.”
Kat offered, “but I’ve met him, plus he’s on the run
from Starfleet at the moment, I believe he managed to
kidnap a Starfleet captain, and there’s also a few
other charges to be leveled, so are you going to drop
the pretence and allow us to search your vessel or do
I get to make Hannibal’s Christmas and arrest you?”

Scene: CO’s ready room
TI: Christmas Eve

Gene was on operations duty he was considering what
his wife had said about his CO, he was almost certain
she was right, she was about most things, so when he
spotted Kat heading into her ready room he followed.

She turned and leaned on her desk expecting something
about the food fight and instead got, “are you
pregnant?”

Kat blinked kind of owlishly at her XO, “hi Gene, good
to see you, how are you? Yeah I’m fine too, would you
like a drink?”

Gene paused words half way out of his mouth and then
shook his head, “sorry, how are you?”

Kat laughed and shook her head pointing to the
comfortable seats in her ready room; they went up the
two steps and sat down. “I haven’t even told Jeff
yet.” She told him quietly pulling her knees up on the
chair she wrapped her arms around them. “But Xana’s
right.”

Gene opened and shut his mouth and then shrugged,
“congratulations?”

Kat burst out laughing stopping a couple of minutes
later for breath, “gene, my first pregnancy was with a
half Klingon that nearly killed me, my second
pregnancy my husband ran off and I gave birth to twins
in a prison. Half of me is wondering if this is my
chance to get it right, finally, mostly I’m just
scared Jeff is going to run off again.”

Gene shook his head, “Is that why you’re here, instead
of home telling Jeff?”

Kat nodded, “I’m petrified Gene, I can’t lost him
again.”

“I doubt you will, but how are you going to cope with
four?”

Kat smiled and shrugged, “the same as we cope with
three, I always wanted a large family, I spent long
enough with no firm family that I have every intention
of retiring to a cabin in a forest and my hundreds of
grandchildren coming around and entertaining me every
Christmas.”

“Well you’re well on your way to that.” He half
teased. “Now,” he stood up and pulled Kat with him,
“go home, tell Jeff and don’t come back until you do.”

Kat scowled slightly but then sighed and nodded. “You
think he’ll stay this time?”

Gene looked down, amazed at how vulnerable the small
woman in front of him looked. “If he doesn’t I’ll set
Hannibal onto him.” He promised.

Scene: Kat’s quarters
TI: Christmas morning

Kat lay awake one eye fixed to the chronometer on the
wall counting its way up to 5am, Jeff was lying next
to her his breathing the slow, steady, deep breathing
of someone deep in sleep.

She shifted in the bed and felt him start to stare,
rolling over she placed her hand gently on his
stomach, “Jeff?”

He muttered something and then opened one eye. “What
time is it?”

“Early,” Kat answered, “I need to tell you
something...”

She was interrupted by the doors opening and Ely
jumping on the bed yelling about Father Christmas.

Jeff caught their daughter and raised an eyebrow at
his wife. **What is it.**

**It’ll wait she answered.** She grinned at Ely, “Come
on then let’s go and unwrap some pressies.”

the little girl disappeared excitedly out of the room
while Kat and Jeff got dressed they brought the twins
into the living room and the five of them started
unwrapping presents together.

TI: after Christmas lunch

Kat was in the kitchen washing the Christmas dishes
her foster father stood next to her drying them and
putting them into cupboards. “I suppose its one thing
about being on a station.” Geoff mused, “No sudden
turns and plates smashing.”

Kat rolled her eyes, “yes, that is the only
advantage.” She said sarcastically. “Any signs of a
job yet?” she asked changing the subject,

Geoff grinned, “Nope, I’m enjoying not having any
responsibilities, means I can baby-sit my grandkids
every time you need me to.”

Kat smiled back at him, “fine but don’t expect me to
pay your bills.”

Her dad pulled tongues at her and then glanced up when
Jeff entered, “I’ll leave you two crazy kids to it.”
He decided and threw the dish cloth at his son in law.

Kat smiled and leaned against the sink watching Jeff
as he picked up a bowl. “Is it just me or is this year
crazier than last?”

Kat nodded, “the twins are old enough to be exited and
who can blame our parents for spoiling them,”

Jeff shrugged, “so what where you going to tell me?”
he asked after a moment.

Kat took a deep breath and sighed, “I’m pregnant.”

NRPG: Sorry about the delay in this and the character
centeredness, it’s kind of been very hectic over here
but hopefully we will pick up 
