“briefings” (cont’d from “Diplomatic Three Card Monty”) Location: USS STARBLAZER Scene: Xana and Gene’s quarters Stardate: 2.70122.1013 Kat sighed and shook her head at the two women, “don’t get me wrong I’m as annoyed as you two, my CEO disappeared with the Borg as well, but really if I get another call from Ops or Harper about this I’m going to have to give the embassy something to suggest I’ve done something about it.” Both the other woman looked at her unblinking, Kat sighed and burst out laughing and then sat down and picked her goddaughter up. Xana watched her friend and then dove right in to what she had been wanting to say. “Do you wish you could have gone with Ronnie?” Kat looked up slightly and gave her friend half a smile and a shake of her head, “Part of me does, and part of me has got the hang of the CO hat though. I have other responsibilities, Maddie and the PRO crew can look after themselves, and if by the time we get back nothing has been done to retrieve them I’ll take the whole gamma fleet and get them back.” Xana smiled and then grinned, “even if Starfleet says otherwise?” “firstly we both know it won’t come to that, by the time we get home Mads and co will be home safe and sound and probably off on another mission, secondly since when did Starfleet saying no ever stop me?” Xana grinned, “they have Thomas on the way to them.” “And Ronnie, so what more do they need.” She sighed “ok then madam ambassador, onto matters at hand.” Xana nodded and did her best to look serious. “I have a padd of information on the planet and the race we’re visiting and I’m looking forward to briefing the crew.” Kat smiled slightly, “Good, I’ll arrange a senior staff meeting a couple of hours before we hit the star system, unless there is anything important we’re going to need to prepare for?” Kat left the question hanging in the air and watched the half Bolian carefully; she knew the woman sat next to her well, as a friend and as her former CO. Xana looked at the PADD and then back at Kat and smiled slightly, “honestly I’m just here because they want closer ties with EARTH, and you’re here because Starfleet needs reports on all aspects of their civilization to allow them to become members, it’s going to be a couple of weeks of you sitting back and relaxing while your crew runs around gathering data.” Kat scowled not quite believing her, “this is Starfleet, and more than that this is the STARBLAZER, something is going to go wrong.” Xana grinned, “Nothing will go wrong. How long until we arrive at Tellesia anyway?” Kat sighed, “around 24 hours, it’s not far, I’ll have someone figure out what time we will get there and aim for mid morning at the capital city?” Xana nodded, “OK, well give me a few hours to ready myself and call that staff meeting.” =[/\]= Scene: Briefing room Xana Bonviva stood behind the captain’s chair, her friend and body guard Eilean stood to one side watching the impassive look on her bosses face. It was hard to tell what the blue woman was thinking but she blinked and stood up straight as other people started traipsing in. Kat easily took the XO chair when she saw her friend behind her seat and Xana watched as everyone sat a chair lower down the table than usual. Xana watched as Gene, Hannibal and Nick followed Kat in and waited a few minutes for Jeff and Neos who arrived together and took their seats. The ambassador for EARTH glanced at Kat who nodded for her to start as a second operations officer took a seat lower down the table. “Ok,” Xana began with a small smile, “as you all know we’re on our way to Tellesia IV, some of you may have heard of this planet before, It’s a small class M planet in the Tel system, it’s a primary star system much like EARTH’s with five other planets the main star is called Tel. Tellesia IV has one moon which has a base on it where they have moved the majority of their industry.” Xana took a deep breath, “this means the planet itself has pretty much gone back to nature, the water/land ratio is similar to around 70/30% I have also been made aware that there are two races on this planet they are something of cousins, one is land based and one water based. The water race out numbers there land based cousins 2 to 1.” “We have a few aims; firstly the Tellesians want to show EARTH why we should trade with them and why we should ally with them, hence why I’m here. Kat can tell you more about your aims.” She indicated the CO and then sat down. Kat stood up and took a deep breath, “Starfleet’s aims are slightly different, firstly due to the decrease in the ambassadors staff we’re to ensure her safety, secondly the Tellesian’s want to become fully fledged members of Starfleet, meaning we need to fill out all the usual reports, medical advancements, technological advancements, we also need to look at their social advancements.” Kat took a deep breath, “we will approach the main city of Tel named after their sun around midday as a full away team, we are going to meet delegates from both branches of the Tellesians. Then from there we will probably split into smaller teams, I know this sounds like the usual run of the mill contact mission so lets enjoy being planet side for a change and do our jobs well.” Jeff glanced up, “do we have any information on the two races?” the CMO asked calmly. Kat looked at Xana who shrugged. “very little to be honest, the race are partially reclusive but have realized that any alliances outside of their solar system will be useful in the long term, we have visited before but briefly when we gave them protectorate position after fears the Dominion where looking towards their star system.” Xana nodded, “EARTH are very interested in this alliance after those initial scans flagged up some very interesting minerals in the system, and also on Tellesia IV.” “We also know they where originally telepaths.” Kat answered, “Both of the two branches of the Tellesians communicated with their mind, there is only a brief mention of it in the original federation report but it didn’t seem like communicating was a problem for those.” Hannibal muttered under his breath about not trusting telepaths. Kat smiled slightly, “the original reports are available for us all to read through.” She glanced over at Nick, “we have around ten hours to prepare whatever we believe we need.” The FCO/aOPs nodded his head, “more like nine hours now.” He offered to the assembled senior staff. “OK so I’ll let you all read the information under your own steam, any questions, please ask Xana or myself.” Kat told the staff and watched them as they headed out of the room. When Xana and Kat where alone the CO grinned, “can I have my seat back now?” Xana burst out laughing and nodded, “I have to admit, I can’t wait to meet the Tellesians, the original team left enough out of the reports to make this very interesting,” Kat nodded and less enthusiastically answered, “A picture would be nice, I’m waiting to find a big black blob waiting for us.” “They must be humanoid.” Xana answered, “Otherwise they would have noted it.” She went quiet and then gave Kat a worried glance. “Right?” Kat grinned and laughed, “Should be interesting whatever they are.” ** NRPG: just so some of you know the PROPHECY is docked on the GATEWAY while the PRO crew are off doing whatever they are doing, Kim has some ideas to do with this so if anyone is interested in writing on the station for some NPC’s give Kim a shout and I’m sure she will fill you in.
