“Second Contact”
(Cont’d from “research and reminiscing”)

Location: USS STARBLAZER
Scene: CO’s quarters/ready room -> Bridge
Stardate: 2.70206.1136

The room was eerily silent, and dark, the computer
having been lowered to about 20% of the normal light,
Kat held a backlit PADD in one hand her feet
outstretched onto her desk her spare hand resting on
her stomach she sighed and stretched as the door
chimed, “come in.” she called

Gene popped his head around the door. “we’re about to
enter the Teleran system.” He offered.

Kat smiled, “you could have used the comms.” She
answered and pushed herself to her feet PADD still in
hand she took her uniform jacket and pulled it on.
“have you read this?”

Gene took the device as the CO zipped her jacket up
and checked on the three solid pips on her neck. “yes,
not a lot of info.”

Kat shook her head and sighed, “it’s a piss poor
report.” She commented “I hate going into the
unknown.”

Gene smiled slightly, “well the basics we do know
suggest a peaceful race, there has been the odd
skirmish but nothing to serious.” He offered “they
even seemed to have live in relative harmony with each
other.”

Kat smiled at that, “well that’s good then.” She
chuckled, “Oh well, we’re about to find out one way or
another.” They stepped into the turbolift side by
side. “bridge.” Kat said, “did you notice anything on
etiquette when you where looking through.”

Gene shook his head, “nothing specific, so my advice
would to be polite.”

Kat shrugged, “Isn’t that the basics of diplomacy, ask
nicely and carry a big stick?”

“Yes, it might help if you hide the big stick though.”
He offered with a grin, “and I’ve never seen you ask
nicely for anything.”

Kat grinned back, “I always ask nicely.” The doors
opened onto the bridge and she shrugged, “I just only
ask once.”

The two moved down to the big chairs in the centre of
the bridge and Kat looked over her shoulder. “have we
hailed yet?”
The ops officer shook his head as Nick span in his
chair, “we’re entering the system now.” He offered.

“Drop to impulse.” Kat answered “let’s not land in
their backyard without announcing ourselves.”

The Starblazer dropped effortlessly from Warp to
impulse and Kat nodded, “anything to see out there
Lieutenant?”

Nick smiled slightly and shook his head, “Just some
stars at the moment, we’re about 30 minutes out from
Telleran IV.”

“OK steady cause. Ensign Betts send them a hail.”

The young woman at the ops console nodded and then
glanced up, “they’re responding.”

“guess they were waiting for us.” Gene suggested
quietly.

Kat nodded and glanced back as she stood up. “On
screen.”

An older gentleman appeared on the large viewscreen,
only his head was visible, Kat didn’t take too long
taking in his appearance as she smiled warmly.
“governor Ibech?”

The male bowed, his head disappeared for a moment then
reappeared on second glance she realised what was
wrong he had a lack of a nose. A flap moved on his
neck as he spoke, {{Commander Gorman, we received your
transmission, it is a pleasure to finally meet you.}}

His voice sounded almost nasal as it issued from his
lipless mouth. Kat nodded, “You too governor, may we
have permission to come into orbit?”

The governor smiled, or at least seemed to, his dark
black eyes crinkled and his mouth moved his neck flaps
moved quicker and he nodded, {{I will send
instructions, you must dock your larger vessel on 5641
and use your shuttlecrafts to come down to the
surface.}}

Kat nodded, “If that is what you prefer.”

{{your transporter technology caused us some…
interference on your last visit.}}

The Commander smiled then and nodded, “then of cause
we will use our smaller crafts to land, if you send us
the co-ordinates we’ll be with you as soon as
possible.”

Ibech bowed again and the screen went blank. Nick
glanced over his shoulder, “we have co-ordinates to
dock with their moon,” he offered.

“Alright take us in,” Kat glanced over her shoulder at
Julie Betts. “was that a problem with the translator?”
she asked carefully.

“doesn’t look like it.” Julie answered calmly,
“everything is running as normal, whatever language
they are speaking isn’t Federation standard but the
translators from the original landing seem to have
done a thorough job.”

“Good to know.” Kat answered carefully. “it’s been a
while since I’ve had to deal with someone not speaking
federation standard.”

Gene smiled slightly, “it does make the pause
interesting, I’m intrigued to know what kind of
interference we caused.”

Nick turned slightly and looked at where the CO was
stood, “Teleran IV and her moon are in range.”

Kat glanced over her shoulder. “On screen then.”

The view screen flickered and the small woman sat
down, the contrast was shocking, the small moon had
been converted into a dock yards, small ships
flittered around it but from this distance it looked
like an orb of grey, in contracts the larger planet
looked like a large orb of blue, a few smatterings of
green could be seen even from this distance.

Kat glanced at Gene and shrugged, “let’s get some away
teams arranged,”

Gene rose to his feet, “I’m on it, I’ll see what Xana
needs as well.”

“Good plan.” Kat answered then turned to Nick, “get us
docked with that moon then prepare two shuttles to
take to the planet.”

The FCO/aOPS nodded his head, “already on it.” He
offered with a smile no one else could see.

NRPG: OK I’ll work on getting to the planet as well
but I’m at work and my boss is looking at me funny.

Anyone else can feel free to post.
