========= “Interesting Tidbits of Conversation” Con’t from Margie’s “The Wanderers Return” ========= Location: MOON Stardate: 2422 [2.7] 0418.2353 Scene: Corridors “As you can see,” Javan said proudly as he and Jeffrey Gorman began walking down one of the main corridors of the visitor’s area on the moon. “We have a wide number of facilities that both visitors and staff have the ability to partake of whenever they please.” “It all looks very impressive,” Jeff assured him as the two of them continued to walk. “And once again I wish to extend the thanks of my crew and Captain at your generous offer of hospitality.” “It is all in good nature; after all our peoples are trying to become friends,” Javan replied with a smile. “If you don’t mind my asking, what is your actual position on board your ship?” “As I said back in the reception area, I’m the Chief Medical Officer,” Jeff answered. “I’m responsible for the physical well being of the crew as well as coordinating and supervising all of the other medical staff on board the ship.” “Forgive me,” Javan said, inclining his head slightly. “I misspoke. What I meant to ask was what position you held relative to the hierarchy of your vessel.” “Oh, I see,” Jeff nodded his head in understanding. “I am the third in command of the vessel and hold the Starfleet Officer rank of Lieutenant Commander.” “I see,” Javan said, with a further inclining of his head. “And where are your two superiors?” “The second in command of our ship is back down on the surface coordinating the diplomatic efforts with your people,” Jeff explained. “As for the Commanding Officer of our vessel, Starfleet has a policy that the CO normally should not accompany an away team down to the surface because they are far too valuable to lose.” He smiled apologetically. “It’s the way our organization is run; no exceptions,” he said. It was a half-truth at best since many Commanding Officers ignored that rule outright but Jeff figured that Javan didn’t need to know that part of it just yet. “Your Commander is very valuable to you, I understand,” Javan assured him. “Doubly so to me,” Jeff added, a more genuine smile on his face this time. “She’s also my wife and the mother of my children.” ====== Location: TELLESIA IV Scene: Records Room Lieutenant Roke had worked for hours in order to collate the vast amount of information available within the records room and had eventually hit on the idea of systematically pulling PADDs out of the different areas of the stacks and just taking copious notes of those PADDs. A few hours of work had allowed him to get very familiar with the layout of the room and pretty soon he was able to extract the information that was necessary for his report at a very quick rate. So intent was he on his work that he didn’t notice Orohi until the man had come up right behind him. “Sorry to bother you Doctor,” Orohi said, laying a hand on the younger man’s shoulder. “But the records room is closed during the night. We can not make exceptions to this rule unfortunately; not even for Starfleet.” “That’s okay,” Roke said agreeably. “I have more than enough information to form my initial report. I’ll go back to my room and send the final report to my superior. Is there anything else you would like to show me?” “I could show you some of our medical facilities if you wished before you sent your report,” Orohi suggested. “We could tour the ones in the capital; it would only take a few hours.” Roke considered. “Okay,” he said finally. “Lead on.” ====== Location: MOON Scene: Corridor “What’s that room?” Jeff asked, pointing out through the glass at one room that was full of tables. Each table had two chairs accompanying it; one on either side. Some of the tables were in use and some were empty. “That is our Mya’Aya room,” Javan explained. “Mya’Aya is a game that is very popular amongst my people. It involves a number of plastic coated cards that are each colored white or black and have numbers from one to six on them. The goal of the game is to take turns drawing cards from the deck, placing numbers to either add or subtract from the total you or your opponent has. The winner is the first person to land exactly on twenty. If no player ends up on twenty by the end of the deck then the person that is closest to twenty wins.” “Sounds like fun,” Jeff said with a slight nod of his head. It was similar to some of the games he’d played growing up but not quite the same. “Would you like to play a few games?” Javan asked. “It is a game that is easy to learn.” “Sure,” Jeff said agreeably. “I’m supposed to learn what I can about your culture anyway.” ========= NRPG: Just moving things along.
