========= “The Return” Con’t from Joy’s “Home” ========= Location: GS-2 Stardate: 2422 [2.7] 0420.1951 Scene: Corridor -> Gorman Family Quarters Jeff moved down the hallway in one of the habitat rings and eventually made it over towards his quarters which he entered through the sliding doors. He smiled across at his parents and father-in-law who had been sitting around a table and chatting just previous to his entry. “Where are the children?” Jeff asked, looking around at the abnormally quiet room that he was currently in. “They’re all sleeping,” Margaret said with a smile. “They were both missing you and Kat so we did a lot of sight-seeing and playing in the holodeck to tire them out.” Jeff sighed, nodding as he slid into the free chair at the table. “It’s a problem we’re still learning to figure out,” he said, before looking across at his parents questioningly. “How did you ever manage it?” His mom smiled at him. “We didn’t,” she said. “You were so into hockey and other sports that you were at the rink as much as we were out on leave. Raising you was totally easy.” “Yep,” his father agreed. “You were quite the abnormal child.” Jeff looked back and forth between the two of them before shaking his head and laughing. “Gee, thanks,” he said. “And you and Kat still need to plan Ely’s birthday party,” Geoffrey said. “I know,” Jeff nodded. “I sent a message to her terminal about that earlier just after we’d gotten back. We were going to talk about it when she got home.” They were silent for a few minutes, each with their own thoughts, before Jeff spoke up. “How long are you two around for?” he asked his parents curiously. He knew that they had already postponed their trip back to EARTH twice now and he was grateful for the extra help, but he figured that they might be getting pretty eager to get back to their retired lives on EARTH. “There’s no hurry,” Jamie announced reassuringly. “We’ll get things sorted out later.” He looked at Margaret who nodded her head in agreement. “We’ll probably stay for the birth at least,” she said. Jeff nodded. “That would be wonderful,” he said. “So how was the last mission?” Geoffrey asked. Jeff grinned. “Routine,” he said. All three of them started at him as if he were crazy and he laughed lightly at their surprised expressions. “Come on, be truthful,” Jamie Gorman said. “I’m totally serious dad,” Jeff replied, holding his hands up. “The mission was completely routine. We got there, the away team went down, gathered their reports and filed them with no problems. We were treated to their hospitality, had a good time generally and then came back with a lot of useful information about the race as well as their trading stockpiles.” “Wow,” Margaret said thoughtfully. “I can’t remember the last time that happened to me…if ever.” Jeff grinned. “It’s a rare occurrence to be sure,” he agreed. “A very rare occurrence.” “So what’s next for you?” Margaret asked. Jeff shrugged. “Hopefully a reasonable amount of down time,” he said. “We’ve got Ely’s party coming up and then hopefully some time to relax and spend some time together as a family.” ======= NRPG: Just a short post detailing a few things.
