=========== “Jeff’s Shopping Jaunt, Part II” Con’t from my own “A New Take on Sporting Goods” =========== Location: GS-2 Stardate: 2422 [2.7] 0428.0719 Scene: Promenade “That was the weirdest thing ever,” Jeff muttered to himself as he kept up his walk down the promenade. It wasn’t long until he came across another unfamiliar store that looked like it was taking up a lot of space and curious as to what it was he tucked his head into the store and looked around. Almost immediately a man with a smile came up to him and asked how he could be of service. “What’s this store sell?” Jeff asked, looking around and noticing that it appeared to be a showroom of sorts; full of small personal shuttle craft that for the most part looked like they had seen better days. “Only top quality stuff sir, I assure you,” the man said, his words seeming to completely contradict the state of some of the shuttles in the room. Quite quickly and adroitly he put a hand on Jeff’s arm and led the taller man across the room to the few shuttles that were on display. “As you can see by these prime specimens of personal use shuttle craft our little outpost here only specializes in the best of the best.” “They all look used,” Jeff commented, afraid to touch the one he was near for fear that any slight movement might cause part of it to fall off. “They are used!” the salesman beamed at him. “And that’s how I’m able to pass along some ridiculous savings to you!” “Excuse me?” Jeff asked, completely bewildered. “Take this great shuttle for example,” the man continued, leaning on the shuttle closest to the two of them casually. “Normally it would cost you a pretty penny but you can buy it used from us for less than half the price it would cost you to buy it from one of the new shuttle retailers.” “I see,” Jeff answered. “Do you really?” the man asked, straightening up and surreptitiously kicking a piece of the frame that had fallen off underneath the shuttle in the process. “When you buy from those guys, all you’re doing is paying for the frills. You’re not getting quality for your money! I’m here selling you the *exact* same shuttle for less than *one half* of the price! How can you *not* take advantage of this deal?!” “I…err…don’t need a shuttle?” Jeff half said, half asked. The man’s expression changed slightly. “Then why are you in here?” he asked. “I…” Jeff felt quite sheepish. “I was just curious as to what was being sold in here. I never really planned to buy anything.” “I see…” the man’s demeanor changed completely now that he was made aware that he would not be able to get a sale. “Well, if you need anymore help, feel free to ask.” With that he pushed past the doctor and went to accost another man that had just entered the store. Jeff was a little taken aback by the sudden departure of the salesman, but couldn’t help but shake his head and chuckle, especially when his eyes fell on the frame piece that hadn’t quite made it all the way underneath the shuttle body. Dealers of used transportation equipment were the same the universe over it seemed. He spent a few more minutes browsing around the woefully low quality selection of shuttles available before shaking his head again as he left. On his way out the door he caught notice of the store’s name (Tex’s Shuttle Emporium) as well as the nametag the salesman was wearing, extravagantly stating that his name was Tex Martman. ========== NRPG: idea for the store was thought up by Jerome!
