“Festivals”

Con’t from Sarah’s “But I Wanna Pretty Festival Too!”

Location: GS-2

Stardate: 2422 [2.7] 0511.1813

Scene: Promenade

“Balloons!” Ely cried out happily.

“Ely dear, don’t…” Jeff’s words trailed off as his adopted daughter ran off
towards the vendor that was selling balloons. Kat, Jeff and El’Hron were
attending the festival. The twins were both tired, so Jeff had imposed on
his parents to baby sit while they took Ely to the festival.

Jeff sighed. “I guess as long as she stays within eyesight it’s not too
bad,” he said.

Kat laughed, as the couple walked hand in hand down the area of the
promenade where the gratitude festival celebrations were taking place.
“She’s full of energy,” she observed, as they kept walking.

“This place looks fantastic,” Jeff commented as the married couple looked
around them. There was indeed a very Bajoran theme to the decorations that
covered this area of the promenade, but at the same time the atmosphere was
one of celebration. All in all, Jeff became very glad that the festival had
now moved its celebrations to GATEWAY; he surmised that he could get used to
this every year.

“Do you want to do the festival?” Kat asked.

Jeff looked down at his wife. “Do the festival?” he asked.

“Yeah,” she said with a smile. “We write down our problems on renewal
scrolls and then burn those scrolls. It symbolically makes our problems go
away.”

Jeff returned the smile. “You know,” he said. “I think for the first time
in awhile, I can’t really think of any problems I have.”

“Oh come on,” Kat persisted. “There must be something!”

Jeff thought about it for a moment, before shrugging. “I can’t really think
of anything,” he admitted. “Nothing big anyway. I don’t think complaining
about having too much paperwork would be particularly appropriate.”

Kat laughed. “Probably not,” she agreed.

“This time last year we weren’t even engaged, let alone married,” Jeff said,
stopping and turning Kat so they were facing each other. “Compared to that,
this is fantastic. How often does a guy get a second chance after screwing
up as large as I did? Right here, right now, I seriously can’t think of any
problems I have.”

Kat looked up at him and smiled, leaning up as the two shared a kiss. Their
kiss was broken short by a commotion that occurred close to them and they
looked over to see that their daughter had accidentally popped one of the
balloons, causing people in the immediate area to have a quick fright. A
few shrieks had attracted the attention of some passers-by and with
simultaneous groans the two parents walked over to where their child was
standing and looking quite sheepish.

“Is this your child?” the vendor asked.

“Yes,” Kat answered. “Sorry about the balloon; we’ll pay for that.”

“Don’t worry about it,” the man said kindly, smiling at them. With Ely now
standing in front of Jeff and holding one of his hands, the three continued
on their way.

“How about you?” Jeff asked suddenly, realizing that they’d left the
previous conversation hanging in the air. “Do you want to do the scroll
thing?”

Kat smiled. “Maybe,” she answered innocently.
