Scene: Crime Scene

Hannibal O’Patterson and a few members of his security force had cordoned
off the area surrounding the scene of the crime and were now in the process
of systematically going around the crime scene and looking for anything out
of place that might provide a clue as to the identity of the murderer.

A few moments after he’d finished examining a splotch on the floor, the
sound of footsteps drew the security chief’s attention. He stood from his
crouch and looked out, nodding his head in the direction of the approaching
figure, which he recognized immediately.

“Sorry to pull you from your sickbay shift Doctor,” Hannibal said, nodding
in the direction of the body that was lying on the floor. “But as you can
see we have a bit of a situation here.”

Jeff nodded, leaning down and examining the body visually. “Was this body
moved?” he asked suddenly. Hannibal looked over at one of his underlings
who had been listening to the conversation and the man nodded.

“It was originally in a trash compactor,” the man said. “We had to move it
out of there in order to try to ID the corpse.”

“Were you successful?” Jeff asked, looking up at the security office from
his crouching position.

“Not yet sir,” came the answer.

“Well,” Jeff said, opening the medkit he’d brought with him and extracting a
tricorder from its depths. “In spite of the skinning, I can still take a
full physiological scan with the tricorder.” He started scanning back and
forth, getting the information that he needed. “If this person has ever
been through the infirmary, I’ll be able to get a positive ID as soon as I
feed the physiological information into the computer.”

“How soon can you do that?” Hannibal asked.

“As soon as I get back to sickbay,” Jeff answered. He continued scanning,
taking a few more readings of other kinds that he thought would be useful in
helping him come up with an identification.

“What do you figure on the time of death?” Hannibal asked.

Jeff pursed his lips, pressing a few buttons on his tricorder and doing
another quick scan. “I’d say the body had been in the trash compactor some
hours at least,” he answered. “Although since it was contaminated a lot it
could throw the results off a little bit. Say somewhere in the range of ten
to twelve hours; fifteen hours at the earliest outside limit.”

Hannibal nodded his affirmation of having heard Jeff’s words as the doctor
finished his scan and got back to his feet. “Do you have someone coming in
to do the forensic work yet?” he asked.

“Yep,” the security chief answered. “We put in a request for a team about
fifteen minutes ago; they said they’d send someone down as soon as they
could.”

“Sounds like a plan,” Jeff said. “Do me a favor and get Lieutenant Yao to
send me a copy when the team finishes up here?”

“Sure thing doc,” Hannibal said. “I’ll also contact you when we’re ready to
release the body for autopsy.”

“Good man,” Jeff said, putting the tricorder back into his medkit and
slinging the strap over his shoulder.

NRPG: Sorry about the lengthy silence. Been having some atrociously
annoying laptop problems as of late, so posting has been difficult. I’ll do
more in my next post, promise!

Jasmina/Chance -> I hope I didn’t ruin anything either of you were working
on; if so let me know and we can work something out.

Steve -> Feel free to take the lead in anything you were planning. I’m a
bit in tough at the moment, so I’ll just follow whatever you do.
