=========== "Birthing Pains" Con't from Jerome's "Desolation, Part II" =========== Location: GS-2 Scene: Sickbay Stardate: 2422 [2.7] 0628.1518 There was blood everywhere it ran down the edges of the biobed Lieutenant Alec Roke wiped a gloved hand across his forehead trying to be careful not to spread blood any further. The young lieutenant groaned as he watched the readouts above the bed. He'd never seen a haemorrhage that bad since, well ever. He looked at the nurse monitoring the blood transfusion as another nurse called out. "Her blood pressure is dropping." "Push that blood through," he managed to bark. A midwife stood to one side her eyes scanning her own readouts. "How's the baby doing?" "No sign of distress at the moment." She answered calmly. "Where's Jeff?" Kat's voice was quiet but even so it made Alec jump her readouts were so low he thought she was about to drift into unconsciousness. "He's on his way but something is happening on the promenade. He'll be here any minute." Kat blinked and then despite everything suddenly tried to sit up. "The kids.." she gasped as the drips pulled on her arm and the nurses and doctors pushed her back into bed. "Your dad has them." Alec told her calmly. "Dahlia." "All four of them." "But he'll come, and I promised her." Alec raised an eyebrow but an alarm went off and when he glanced back Kat had drifted into unconsciousness. =========== Scene: Promenade Jeff sprinted out of the restaurant and onto the promenade before he immediately had to come to a halt to avoid bumping into someone that was standing right in front of where he wanted to go. Murmuring an impatient excuse me, Jeff made his way around the other person and continued as quickly as he could, having just realized that there was a huge crowd gathered on the promenade in front of him. "What's going on?" Jeff demanded of the first member of Starfleet Security he could find. The security officer shrugged. "Something about the orb's got 'em spooked," he said. "We don't know much, but a lot of them are close to rioting so we've had to lock down the section to prevent this unruly behaviour from spilling into other parts of the station." "I see," Jeff said, thinking quickly. He attempted to walk past the security officer, who restrained him with a patient look on his face. "Unfortunately sir, you can't go anywhere until the lock down expires." Jeff gave him a look. "There's a medical emergency I need to tend to," he said. "Are you the only doctor on your staff that can tend to it?" the security officer asked. "Well, no," Jeff grudgingly admitted, sensing this conversation was quickly slipping out of his control. "But it involves my..." "If you're not the only one, then you're going to have to stay here," the security officer said firmly. "No exceptions. I'm sorry doctor." Jeff groaned silently and opened up a comm. Link to sickbay. "Roke I'm stuck on the promenade how's it going down there?" [[OK.]] the harried reply came back and Jeff could sense an undertone of uneasiness, [[I think we have everything under control at the moment.]] The CMO scowled slightly and started firing questions at his assistant who fielded them extremely well, eventually ending with a mutter of. [[Commander we're a little busy here.]] The doctor grudgingly let his assistant go and then glanced around the promenade he was in front of the temple he realised and then noticed that around him mainly stood Bajorans. A shout of something came from the temple about all Jeff could make out was the words wormhole and prophets. He scowled as someone banged into him from behind the second person almost knocked him off his feet and he glanced up to see the panicked look on the security officer's face as a tide of humanity surged towards them. "What the hell is going on?" he asked The security officer didn't reply, but the look on his face as he looked out one of the larger windows present on the promenade showed the look of one who is totally spooked by what he sees. Jeff followed the man's line of sight until he saw what it was that had spooked the security officer to such a large degree. Jeff turned back to the security officer. "Do you have an uplink to ops from your tricorder?" he asked. "If so, use it and see what ops has started to say." The officer did as he was instructed and the spooked look turned to one of abject terror as he let the tricorder drop from his hands. Jeff, using quick reflexes, managed to catch the tricorder before it hit the ground and broke apart. He looked at the information the officer had brought up and shook his head wonderingly. "The wormhole's disappearing," he said to nobody in particular. "That's what they're so riled up about." he didn't have time to say anything further as the tricorder was knocked from his hand as a throng of people came running by him. Before he could react to that, he found his feet taken out from underneath him as the stampeding Bajorans, panicked by the disappearance of their gods, ended up running amok on the promenade. Jeff gingerly pulled himself back to his feet and tried to avoid getting knocked over again as he noticed that the security officers were having little luck keeping the Bajorans contained. "I guess that means the lock down is effectively over," he muttered to himself. He made his way quickly off the promenade, deciding that taking the long way to sickbay would actually be quicker as it would allow him to avoid most of the crowds that had just begun rioting. He made his way deftly to one of the lesser used corridors out of the promenade and seeing that it was completely empty, he began a full sprint down its length. ========= Scene: Sickbay "Baby's heart rate is increasing." The midwife spoke calmly trying not to add to the panic of the situation. "Blood pressure is dropping." Another voice added. "We have coagulation," "DIC." Someone else called out as the excrement hit the fan. "Baby's going into distress." Roke's eyes widened as he heard monitors beeping around him. "Put her under, we'll deliver the baby." "What about Kat?" someone asked and Roke swallowed. This wasn't just a patient this was a friend and their XO not to mention their bosses wife. "Push plasma through keep transfusing we'll keep her stable deliver the baby and then sort her out." He answered and moved to prepare himself for surgery. ========= Post Jointly Written By.
