“Just a suggestion”
(Cont’d from “Send-Off”)
Location: BORG cube
Scene: Corridor -> Bridge
Stardate: 2.70730.1025
Commander Katlina Gorman was walking through a
corridor much like a corridor that would be found on a
starfleet vessel except for the green glow and the
access points into the Borg collective every few feet.
The last time she’d been on a Borg cube these
corridors had been filled with Borg and their
chambers, even though they had just lost their
connection to the matrix they’d still needed the
chambers to regenerate and access the collective. The
then Lt JG Katlina Potter had been on that first
journey of the USS SUTTNER into the Delta quadrant.
She’d been one of the first Starfleet officers to step
foot on BORGUS she’d been there when the first treaty
had been hashed out by Captain Jason Donovon and
Commander Lorn and the Borg Consul.
Seven years on and she had never expected this,
corridors that were defined, doors leading from them,
Isis was explaining that now each Borg also had a room
to call their own and to stamp with their own
individuality.
“Are you OK Commander?” The voice that cut through her
thoughts was Isis; the Borg woman had stopped to look
at her which meant the eyes of the Borg and the away
team were all on her.
“Fine Isis, sorry I was lost in thought, you seem to
have come along way since last time I saw the interior
of a Borg vessel.”
Isis smiled at the compliment, “it’s taken a lot of
work, but yes, we’ve come a long way, and we will
continue to evolve. If you follow me I’ll take you all
to engineering and you can see how our technology has
advanced along with our individualities.”
They all began walking again and Xana stepped into
step with her friend. “Feels like a guided tour.”
“To the left you’ll see Buckingham Palace.”
The ambassador managed not to laugh at her English
friend. “What do you think?”
“I don’t know, I want to go home Bols, but at what
cost? And is allying ourselves with the Borg a better
bet than the Dominion?”
“Better the devil you know.” Xana answered, “We’ve
been allied with the Borg before.”
“Yes but how like the Borg of seven years ago is this
new Borg federation?”
Their conversation was cut short as another Human
looking Borg came down a corridor that intersected the
one they where currently walking along. “Leader Isis.”
“Yes Vern?”
Vern was a bulky man with no evidence of Borg
connections on first glance.
“The Dominion cruiser is hailing us again; they want
to know what we’re doing in Dominion space.”
Isis sighed, “Have you told them we’re currently
visiting with the Federation?”
“Yes sir, they say we’re in their space.”
“I’ll come up.” Isis glanced at her second in command,
“take the federation representatives down to the
engineering department.”
Kat stepped forwards. “Actually Isis, could I see the
bridge?”
The Borg woman blinked and then nodded, “Of course.”
Xana stepped forwards. “I’ll come with you, Eilean go
with Cadet Crichton and Lieutenant Kor.”
Eilean glared at Xana but eventually nodded and
followed the other away team towards the engineering
department.
Isis nodded to the XO and ambassador. “OK this way
then.” She led them through a maze of corridors until
they arrived at two doors that led onto a bridge.
Katlina Gorman stopped half way through the door;
underneath the Borg technology she could see the
layout was pretty similar to the USS SUTTNER’s. “It
was the most effective use of the space.” Isis
declared as she stepped forwards. “Put them on
screen.”
The image that had briefly been of the GATEWAY changed
to the face of a familiar Vorta. “You are in Dominion
space.” The Vorta declared, “We have been invited here
by the Andarans. You have no right to be here.”
Kat took a step forwards and a deep breath. “They have
been invited here by the Federation, they are in
GATEWAY space, as you can see they are unable to dock
with us so they will have to remain in orbit.”
“Nothing in our discussions with Captain Kane
suggested you would be inviting a force into the Gamma
quadrant.”
“Well that’s because Captain Kane is the voice of
Starfleet not the voice of the federation.” Katlina
answered calmly, “Now I believe you’re awfully close
to the GATEWAY, it could be construed as an attack
force so maybe you should back off.” Kat smiled, “just
a suggestion.”

Location: GS-2
Scene: Operations Deck
Michael Turlogh Kane stared at the two ships in
frustration, it was a ridiculous situation and he had
allowed his XO to be the one over their advising that
damned Ambassador, “have we heard word from any of the
task forces?”
The Federation had sent task forces into the Gamma
quadrant, their home base had been the GATEWAY, the
station had sent out messages as soon as the wormhole
had closed asking all ships to come home in an effort
to consolidate their forces.
So far they hadn’t heard from any.
“Still radio silence from all task forces, sir.”
Captain Kane sighed. “Send the messages again, top
priority.”
“Aye sir.” The operations officer answered calmly.
