“Good Luck”
(Cont’d from “Home”)

Location: GS-2
Scene: Gorman Quarters
Stardate: 2.71308.1419
TI: Continuing straight from Ragys post

She smiled back at him, crossing the room and giving
him a hug. “I have news,” she answered.

“Oh?” Jeff asked. “And what might that be?”

“Mummy’s on holiday.” El’hron squealed in excitement
holding onto her mum’s leg, “so we’re going to get all
her attention.”

Kat smiled slightly and nodded to El’hron. “That’s
right. I’ve been put on that maternity leave for six
months.”

Jeff looked as though he wasn’t sure if he should be
pleased or not. “And you’re OK with that?” He asked
carefully.

“I wasn’t given much choice in the matter; Learna was
very forceful in the execution of her orders.” Kat
answered with a chuckle. She managed to chase Ely off
with promises of taking her to the theme park tomorrow
and then stepped forwards and gave her husband a hug.
“It’ll give me time to bond with the kids.”

“You’re sure.” He wrapped his arms around her and
pulled her in for a hug. “I mean you were declared fit
for duty, granted you probably shouldn’t have been,
but you were.”

Kat laughed, “you know, you don’t sound very pleased.”

Jeff groaned. “I am, I don’t think you should be back
on duty after what you went through, but this is you.
I’ve never even seen you sit still for longer than ten
minutes, and with everything that’s going on with the
Dominion I’d have thought you’d be killing to be on
the Ops deck.”

The small woman sighed and rested her head against her
husbands arm. “I’m tired, I feel warn out, and yeah I
want to be involved, but my kids are more important,
you’re more important.” She looked up at him and
smiled. “I have plenty I can do. I can bond with my
kids, and my dad, I can catch up on my reading.” She
took a deep breath. “I can get to see you from time to
time, when I can tear you away from sickbay.” He
grinned sheepishly at her as she carried on. “And if
anything happens and the Dominion do attack then at
least one of us is here to protect the kids.”

Jeff smiled at that, “I knew there was an ulterior
motive.”

“So what do you want for tea?”

“Anything I want?” Jeff asked

“Sure as long as it’s in the replicator.” Kat answered
heading over to the replicator as she spoke to get the
kids tea.

“I can see you’re warming to this whole house wife
thing.” Jeff teased.

“Don’t make me come over there.” Kat answered and
threw a spare cushion in her husband’s general
direction.

Scene: Learna Teagues quarters -> Bonviva quarters

Commander Teague tugged at the red collar of her
uniform, it felt odd changing from the familiar
mustard to the red but no odder than changing from
teal to mustard.

She faced herself in the mirror and tugged her hair
back from her face wrapping it in a red band she
sighed and then grinned at the reflection ironing out
some of the frown lines.

She nodded to herself when she was sure she looked
both professional and ready for work and then mentally
ran through her to do list as she headed from her
quarters.

She needed to meet Ambassador Bonviva, which was the
nearest, then she needed to give her medical records
and have the usual check up and then she’d heard on
the rumour mill something was going wrong in
engineering.

The new XO palmed the door to Ambassador Bonviva’s
quarters and waited a few minutes before the door
opened. The half Bolian greeted her with a careful
smile taking in the command red and the pips. “How can
I help you Commander?”

“Ambassador Bonviva?”

The woman nodded, “Commander Gorman said I should pay
you a visit, she’s on maternity leave I’m her
replacement.”

The azure woman took her in briefly and then nodded,
“Come on in, do you want a cookie?”

“Cookie!” a little voice yelled and a toddler appeared
arms out stretched.

“You can’t have cookies for breakfast.” Xana said with
a sigh and an apologetic smile to the newcomer.

A moment later two boys barrelled out of their room
they charged into the kitchen grabbed some toast and
grabbed their books. “We’re late for school.” They
chorused.

“I’ll walk you.” Gene called as he appeared fixing his
teal collar in place. “It’s on the way to work
anyway.” He kissed his wife and daughter before
heading out the door.

Learna coughed, “sorry to bother you at home.”

Xana grinned, “five minutes of madness then it all
goes quiet. I’m trying to get ready for work myself.”

“Well then I won’t keep you. I just wanted to
introduce myself, I’m Commander Teague.” She held her
hand out and Xana shook it,

“Xana.” The ambassador told her. “Did Kat happen to
mention that I don’t get on too well with Captain
Kane?”

Learna laughed, “It might have something to do with
you being my first stop. I was hoping that maybe we
could find a way for the three of us to work together
without blood being spilt.”

“Keep the b…” she paused looking down at her daughter
and sighed. “Keep the captain away from me might
help.”

Learna nodded, “I’m sure there are ways, a better use
of your military liaison officer, using me as an
ambassadorial liaison officer.” Commander Teague
smiled. “There are ways and means.”

Xana smiled in return as Learna headed towards the
door. “Commander Teague?”

“Yes Ma’am?” she asked stopping and looking over her
shoulder.

“Good luck.”

“It always makes me nervous when someone says that.”

Scene: Sickbay

Commander Teague sat on the biobed dutifully and
looked around at the sickbay, it was much larger than
anything she’d had to deal with and she wondered how
much of the CMO’s time was taken up with
administrative duties.

“Sorry for keeping you.” The voice came from a tall
man; he had two solid pips and one black pip with a
gold outline. She took in his face and stance and the
wedding band and then grinned.

“Not a problem Commander Gorman.” She shook his hand,
“I’m sure you’re busy enough as it is without having
to do routine checkups.”

The doctor smiled and then unsuccessfully stifled a
yawn.

“Late night?” she asked sympathetically.

“John’s still not sleeping through the night.” He
admitted with a small smile. “and I promised to do my
share of night feeds and dirty diapers.”

Learna laughed, “Well you did get her pregnant.”

“Funnily enough that’s what she said.” Jeff answered
with a grin. “So I see by your records you used to be
a CMO?”

“Yep, a lifetime ago.” Learna admitted half sadly. “I
miss working in sickbay sometimes, Ops isn’t the same
and I have a feeling being an XO is going to be
another world away from being a doctor.”

Jeff nodded, “more than likely, if you ever want to
pull a duty shift down here though you’re more than
welcome.”

Commander Teague grinned, “I’ll get back to you once
I’ve gotten through my to do list.”

“What else is on there?” Jeff asked

“Engineering.” She admitted, “Seems to be a situation
going on down there, other than that I guess I just
get to see how things go.”

“Well if you need anything let me know.” Jeff offered
as he finished the scans. “Everything seems to be in
order, exactly like your last CMO said.”

“Excellent.” Learna grinned and slipped off the
biobed. “I hope you and the wife enjoy the time off.”

“She seems excited by it.” Jeff answered as he walked
the XO to the door. “Anyway good luck.”

“Twice in one day.” Learna muttered as she headed out
the sickbay.
