“Missing Daisy”
(contd from Bethany’s ‘Raw’)
Location: GS-2
SD: 2.71214.2103
Scene: Medical area
Several hours had gone by, since the arrival of the medical teams from the fleet. Kate yawned, rubbing her temple to ease the headache. She sat on a chair in one of the offices, going over some paperwork. Seated on her lap, there was a black house cat sleeping peacefully. The feline was no ordinary Earth cat. It was in fact Commander Daisy Davidson, the PATRIOT CMO, having decided to shape shift into the only other form she could.
Daisy did not want to take a bed away from a patient and suggested to Kate, she’d sleep on her lap. The Scot remembered feeling flabbergasted at the older woman’s suggestion, briefly wondering if the PATRIOT CMO had gone mad until the blonde mentioned about transforming into a cat. The half-Nuimon had given Davidson a sedative upon the latter’s request so as to not be disturbed for the next few hours, except in case of emergencies. Kathryn had to ward off some children who wanted to try playing with the cat. She chided one Bajoran boy over his attempt to pull the feline’s tail.
Kate’s dog, William Wallace was brought down from the MERCY because the beagle was missing his mistress. The Nuimon hybrid was only allowing the dog to remain on the station until her short break was over. At the moment, William Wallace was lying down by her chair, looking rather gloomy. The sleeping cat did not interest him. Then again, William Wallace was trained to not chase cats and the beagle was aware the black feline was really Dr. Davidson.
“Dr. MacNeil,” a male Bolian nurse alerted, dashing into the room.
The Scot acknowledged, straightening herself up. “Is there something wrong?”
The Bolian replied, panting for breath. “The patient, Amanda Benson. Her water broke.”
“Is she going into labour?” Dr. MacNeil inquired, her blue eyes filled with concern.
The nurse nodded, wiping sweat off his forehead. “Yes ma’am. The contractions are ten minutes part.”
Kate ordered. “Then send her to the MERCY.”
The Bolian gulped. “She’s refusing to, until a certain issue is resolved.”
“This is insane,” the MERCY CMO muttered in annoyance. “I’ll deal with Ms. Benson,” the doctor decided, calmly. Gently picking up Daisy off her lap, Kate placed the cat on the chair and took off.
------------
Upon arrival at the biobed, Kate was met with a strawberry blonde haired woman producing a blood curdling scream and three men around her, engaged in a fierce argument. A short human man with a stocky build and ruffled black hair stood at one side of the bed. Kate deduced the individual to be her partner. On the other side of the bed, there stood two humanoid men and MacNeil was confused about their presence by the pregnant woman.
The half-Nuimon demanded, halting the argument. “Now what is the problem here? Why are you refusing to be taken up to the MERCY?”
Amanda’s partner explained, gruffly. “We need my girlfriend to decide if it’s me she wants by her side or them.” He pointed, angrily at the other men. “And it should be me, because I’m her boyfriend…”
One of the other men, a tall and lanky Betazoid with mousy brown hair interjected. “No it should be us, since that is our child she will be delivering.”
The third man, a Human/Ocampan hybrid with slick, blond hair, backed up the Betazoid. “It was part of the deal, when Amanda agreed to do this for us. Me and my husband get to witness the birth of *our* baby.”
Kate sighed, heavily and groaned inwardly at the ridiculous argument. “Oh shut up, all of you,” the doctor commanded. Amanda was breathing heavily, wincing in pain. MacNeil cleared her throat, before explaining firmly with a sense of urgency in her voice. “Look, Ms. Benson is about to go into labor. She needs to be transported to the MERCY in order to deliver her baby safely.” She took in a deep breath. “So, if you could all just set aside your arguments till after the birth, it will be better for everyone involved.”
-----------------------------
Back at the office, William Wallace yawned and stretched himself. The dog began whimpering softly, getting a bad feeling that something was wrong. He glanced upwards at the sleeping cat and suddenly went into protective mode. Daisy, on the other hand, was sound asleep, unaware of what was happening in her immediate surroundings.
Two Nausicans crept into the room, carrying a brown knapsack and rope. The giant figures loomed over the animals with hungry looks in their dark eyes. William Wallace jumped up and started barking but alas due to Amanda Benson’s screaming it went unheard. The dog nipped at the Nausican’s ankles but the alien grabbed the animal by the collar and dumped him into the sack. The beagle continued to struggle inside the bag and howled. The other Nausican swooped over the chair and snatched Daisy who never even stirred.
-------------------------------
Kate sighed deeply. With great difficulty, Dr. MacNeil had somehow managed to get Amanda transferred to the MERCY. She wondered, out of irritation how callous those men were in their dispute over who got to be in the delivery room with Ms. Benson. **Honestly, ** the hybrid thought with disgust. **Couldn’t they have the decency to wait till she gave birth? **
The doctor reached the office room, where she left William Wallace and Daisy. She gasped when entering the room. **Oh no! ** Her dog and co-worker were missing. “Daisy wouldn’t wake up for at least another two hours.” She left the room to return to the main area. Kate glanced around the room and inquired whoever passed her by regarding Daisy’s whereabouts. So far, she had no luck. No one saw the blonde CMO and a small dog enter sickbay. MacNeil grew worried and marched towards the main door, where a marine, ranked as corporal and another man belonging to station security, stood guarding.
Kate questioned, trying to sound calm. “Have you seen Dr. Davidson and a dog around?”
“No ma’am,” the marine answered. He watched the Lt. Commander sigh in disappointment.
MacNeil wondered, anxiety welling inside her. “Where could they be?”
“Ma’am,” the security officer, a crewman, informed. “Thought I should tell you this, but I saw two Nausicans leave the medical area with a bag containing something wiggling inside and a black cat.”
“What?!?” Kathryn exclaimed, stunning the guard. “Did the cat have a diamond looking collar?”
The crewman took a moment to think before slowly drawing out an answer. “Yes ma’am.”
Kate’s mouth dropped open in disbelief and demanded. “Why didn’t you stop them?”
The marine and the crewman stared in alarm at the doctor, whose auburn hair was left open and messy making her seem pretty crazed at the moment. Of course, the young men understood the Scot had a rough day with witnessing a number of deaths among the injured.
“That cat was Dr. Davidson,” Kate blurted out, her panic-stricken eyes shifting to violet.
The marine gaped at her as if the Scot had gone nuts. “But ma’am,” the corporal pointed out. “Commander Davidson is a blonde human woman…”
“Who can change into a house cat,” the doctor finished, sounding exasperated. Noticing the disbelief in the marine’s eyes, the half-Nuimon sighed. “Dr. Davidson has the ability to shape shift into a black cat.”
The security guard deduced. “So Dr. Davidson is a shape shifter then.” Quickly he tapped his comm. badge and contacted Lieutenant Kor, while the marine got in touch with Colonel Maverick.
Kate protested. “Dr. Davidson is not a changeling.”
[[Maverick here,]] the PATRIOT’s MCO responded, amid a scurry of background noise. Soon after, Kor answered the crewman’s hail.
[[Kor here, what’s going on?]]
The crewman informed, beaming proudly. “Sir, we found a changeling in sickbay.”
[[Who?]] The Andorian demanded.
This time, it was the corporal who answered. “Dr. Davidson. She changed into a cat.”
Kor decided. [[I’ll launch a security team after her.]]
MacNeil stated, becoming very angry. “Wait a minute! Daisy Davidson is not a changeling. She has the ability to transform into a cat.”
Mav ordered. [[Dr. MacNeil, report.]]
“Well, I left Daisy in her feline form and my dog, William Wallace in one of the offices to take care of a patient,” Kate explained, quickly. “And when I returned, they disappeared.”
The corporal added. “Sir, we spotted two Nausicans leaving the room with a bag and a black cat.”
The colonel declared. [[Alright, I’ll take care of this at once.]]
[[With Commander McInnis killed,]] Kor stated. [[We must find this changeling at once.]]
Kate gave out an exasperated sigh. “Lt. Kor, Commander Davidson is not a changeling. She has this genetic ability to change into a black…”
[[I know,]] Mav concurred, backing the doctor’s information. [[We’ll find her and your dog.]]
MacNeil sighed with relief as she said to herself. “Thank goodness, someone believes me.” Suddenly something just dawned on her. Dead. Gene McInnis. The Nuimon hybrid was in shock. **I don’t believe this. This is terrible.**
