  Sometimes, the best you can do is just to try and keep busy. Keeping busy made it easier to stop worrying about Ben. She saw him time and again in sickbay on the USS MERCY when she brought him reports on how repairs were progressing. Though he wasn't physically fit for duty yet, he was cognitively fit and wanting to know what was going on.

  He occasionally rolled his eyes and chided her that she could have sent him a transmission and, for the sake of efficiency, didn't have to come in person. He remained distant as Daisy assured him the trip was worth it for morale - seeing him and others who had been injured and letting them know their recovery mattered. Keeping busy discussing how the rebuilding efforts were progressing filled the awkward silences when Daisy would just stand there watching him avoid eye contact with her and her heart would be breaking. Other people keeping busy were always around and it was impossible for them to really talk about what had happened. Ben could have had a private space - but he refused the "Special treatment" so that every possible available space was used for the sake of others more injured than himself. Daisy speculated to herself that he also knew she'd want to get him to talk about his feelings if she'd been able to truly get him "alone" and that Ben was
 cleverly avoiding that. Keeping others, keeping them busy - forced her to keep their conversations professional and limited to the occasional little smile and comment along the lines of "It's good to see you're improving, Captain." He'd only reply with a nod and a "Thank you, Commander. Keep up the good work."

  The main power and life support were up and running in ops. Yet the the lighting was minimal and there were many darkened, battle-scarred areas on this poor station. It was enough to keep her busy and keep her mind off of other things besides how Ben was doing.

Quiet moments were every bit as much of an enemy as the Dominion. Quiet moments alone with her thoughts brought on times of being so homesick to see Erika and her boys that it was difficult to breathe. Quiet moments gave her time to remember Kate's question about whether or not she missed Cade and the confusion and guilt that came with caring for two very different men at the same time.

Quiet moments made her think about her former crewmembers from the USS PROPHECY and the USS STONEHENGE and wish they were around to help. She would sigh and think about how nice it would be to see Peter Aspinall working with with the Engineering crew or to have to have Maddie's warmth and smile with her in the ready room. It made her laugh imagining how they'd probably gang up on Eishnala. The young woman sometimes seemed lonely and Daisy and Maddie together would have found her a boyfriend in less than a week.

  Back in the day - people used to love joking about how the two of them together made for a bridge over-loaded with estrogen and how they were both a couple of meddling mother hens that coddled and spoiled their crew rotten. Though it was getting much easier with practice to walk the walk and talk the talk of a more military, more traditional CO - there would occasionally be these quiet moments when she would get terribly homesick for being with Maddie, Peter, Cade, Thomas Varn and Aerdan Jos.

  Yes, it was better to keep busy and just not think about it.

   Just keep putting one foot infront of the other and doing what needs to be done. That's what she kept telling herself.

  Her neck ached as she leaned over her desk reading yet another daily report. She rubbed it slightly and groaned. Then, the Comm system beeped.

  {{  Kor to Davidson }}

  "What is it Commander?" Daisy replied with a weak grin. She had been happy to give Eishnala that promotion and knowing how it had touched Eishnala to recieve it made addressing her by her new rank instead of her first name more amusing.

  {{  "I wanted to alert you that we've discovered some Fedcomm news crews on three different ships bringing relief supplies..." }}

  Daisy gulped awkwardly. This was the first time she would be confronted with being in the public eye as the Commanding Officer of GATEWAY and she didn't like it.

  Managing a weak grin, she replied, "And I'm guessing shoving them out an airlock would be highly frowned upon?"

  {{ "Aye, Commander." }} Eishnala managed to chuckle.

  "Well, put them through the same security precautions as everyone else and assign security to make sure they don't hinder repair efforts." Daisy muttered.

  It gave her a bad taste in her mouth imagining having to talk to civilian reporters and deal with them asking questions. As a former crewmember of the USS PROPHECY - Daisy had many classified chapters of her service record. As an "Associate of Gary Seven", her medical record required a higher security clearance to access, too. Kate MacNiel as someone who had previously been a Chief Medical officer responsible for Daisy's care and the acting CMO for GATEWAY, Jeffrey Gorman - could access it. It wasn't available for the general medical staff to access because of the nature of Daisy's physiology.

  For a moment, she felt that old knot of anxiety in her stomach and wondered what kind of questions she'd have to face from these reporters. But, she handled that the way she handled everything else right now. She put it aside and did her best to turn her attention back to her reports, calling Starfleet to ask for extra help with the Engineering, Science and Medical departments....and just trying to keep busy.

  NRPG: Ran and Katrina....remember that idea you discussed about a nosy reporter and Kate?

  Well, TAG! :)

  Jamie and Justin - TAG ! Get Thomas on one of those relief ships bringing us extra folks to help with rebuilding and repairs. I mentioned Daisy calling for additional help - so there you go. Get "Hawt Wing boy" to GATEWAY already.

  Erik - I hope you enjoy this.

  Taylor - wasn't Aaron on one of those ships? *Wicked grin*
