The chime only rang once before a voice said loudly, “Come in.”
Taking a deep breath Thomas stepped through the portal and into the gaze of his new commanding officer, who was staring right back at him, “Daisy?!”
She looked tired - but she was definately the Daisy he knew. She gave him a smile and rose to her feet to approach him.
He wasn't comfortable with most people if they got close enough to touch him. His large wings were sensitive. He covered them with a long overcoat, giving him an odd look of unnaturally large shoulders. The young man trusted Daisy, though - to put her arms around his neck and give him a light, gentle hug. Her arms rested on the back of his neck, careful not to push against the wings.
Thomas laughed softly. "Now I know why Cade tried to jump on the transporter with me at the last minute."
Daisy groaned softly and her shoulders sagged. "I have to find time to sit down and record Cade a long letter."
"What's going on, Daisy?" Thomas asked eagerly. "On the STONEHENGE, you stepped down from XO duties to be a full time
doctor and you were very happy. What brought you back to Command?"
She sighed. "One thing at a time." Then, she gave him a pleading look. "Take off your coat, ok?"
Thomas blinked. "What if someone comes in?"
"They'll have to see the wings eventually. They might as well get used to them sooner rather than later."
The Lieutenant groaned. "They'll stare at me."
"I was your doctor on the STONEHENGE. I remember all the times you got itchy rashes from keeping those beautiful wings covered and having perspiration accumulate all around your feathers and there's too much work to be done here to bother with your vanity. So - take off your coat and sit down. Then, I'll answer your questions, ok?" Daisy told him firmly.
He sighed and complied. "Yes, Commander."
Daisy returned to her desk and then she added one more thing. "You'll need to drink extra juice and maybe have a cookie now and then while you're on duty because we have multiple bloodscreenings and scans every day."
Thomas blinked. "Huh?"
"To check for Changeling infiltrators." Daisy reminded him, stating the obvious. His face lit up with understanding and he laughed awkwardly. "Right." Then, he asked, "Is that what motivated you to take this assignment? If you don't mind my asking. You seemed happy to be back in sickbay - having more time to spend with your kids."
Daisy grinned weakly. "Honestly, I was happy just being a doctor in sickbay again. I wouldn't have chosen this for myself." she waved her arm, gesturing around the ready room. " However, it sort of fell into my lap after Captain Kane disappeared and Commander McInnis was killed. I was so nervous at first..." Daisy laughed softly. "I couldn't eat, I couldn't sleep...I threw up atleast twice a day and probably cried myself to sleep every other night because I was certain I would screw it up."
Thomas laughed. "Oh, come on, Daisy... you can't be that bad. You were a great XO."
She laughed, happy to see her young friend from the STONEHENGE. "There's a big difference between being XO and being the CO. I was, I was terrified. But, I started getting to know people and getting settled in and it's gotten easier. Now, I'm really beginning to like this crew and to enjoy looking after them, making sure they have what they need to do their jobs. "
"That's good." Thomas smiled. "And my assignment would be?"
"Assistant Science officer under Lieutenant Yao...." Daisy replied. "But...as you can see...this station has suffered a massive amount of damage. The Science and Engineering departments are going to be do a lot of work together so - do you remember what I told you when you came to the PROPHECY as a cadet?"
He nodded, smirking. "That I was basically your bitch and you'd bounce me around where ever you damn well please?"
Daisy's jaw dropped and she laughed. "I never said anything as horrible as THAT...."
"It was pretty close..." Thomas teased. "You had me at the helm for a bit. You had me doing projects in engineering and in science...."
Daisy raised her hand in a gesture of surrender. "Ok, ok....I admit it. I made you my bitch. But I'm not doing that this time."
The winged man's multi-colored eyes swirled and he sat up straighter. His wings fluttered slightly and he asked, "Ok, then....what are you doing with me, Commander Davidson?"
She smiled at him sweetly. "I'm going to hand your file over to Mr. Crichton, Drake and Lt. Yao and I'll let them make you *THEIR* bitch."
Thomas busted out laughing and a small feather dropped from his left wing down to the floor. Daisy continued grinning broadly at him and sniggered. "Welcome to GATEWAY, darling."
They both laughed and exchanged another gentle hug before Daisy sent Thomas to find his quarters and settle in.

Daisy watched Thomas leave the room. No sooner had he stepped out, though, than Jeff Gorman stepped in, looking both confused and angry. "Something wrong?" she asked, thinking that there was a lot that he could pick from. She wasn't expecting what he said, though.
"Someone's playing a sick joke."
"What?" **Actually, he looks more angry than anything else.** That was... different. He always seemed hard to ruffle, but now he was starting to pace.
"I've had crewmen telling me that they've seen Gene onboard. One even said that Gene had pulled him out from a pylon and called for help before taking off. I don't know what trick someone's playing, but it's bothering me. Why would they even do it?"
"Well, I..."
Daisy was interrupted by a chime at the door, and called for them to come in. It was the counselor from the PATRIOT, apparently rather unnerved. "Ma'am, I have some reports that you should see." She passed over a PADD and waited as Daisy scrolled through them.
Excerpts from sessions with crewman, all of them reporting seeing Gene McInnis -- and, in a couple of cases, other dead crew-- walking the decks or helping the wounded. Daisy looked up. "I think we have a problem."
The Counselor and Dr. Gorman looked at each other and then back to her. There was an awkward silence and Daisy calmly replied to them both.
"This doesn't necessarily have to anyone's idea of a trick, Dr. Gorman." Jeff blinked. "What? Are you saying you believe in ghosts?"
The Counselor looked confused. Daisy quickly explained. "Dr. Gorman was here about the same thing as you , Counselor." Tam's face lit up as Daisy handed Tam's report over to Jeff.
"Are you actually endorsing the idea of ghosts on the station?" Jeff sighed.
"That wouldn't be very scientific of a medical doctor, I know." Daisy admitted. "But, what can seem like ghosts can be explained in more scientific terms if it makes you feel better.....people are doing repairs all over the station anyway. They can scan for subspace and temporal or phasic anomalies. We can also request additional support for the Counseling departments and mild telepathic inhibitors for those who could be sensitive to the moods around them and to telepathic echo's of all the recent trauma lingering in battle damaged areas of the station. "
Jeff nodded approvingly. Then, he asked again with a little smile. "Just curious - do you believe in ghosts?"
"Actually...." Daisy smiled. Then, she paused for dramatic affect. "No comment."

NRPG:
Justin - please send your bio to Taylor and go ahead and share it with the rest of the crew so they can get to know Thomas.
Bethany - I hope you like what I did with your post. :) Thanks for writing! Maybe during a couple weeks of downtime - we'll have a chance for our characters to get to know each other. Since you'll be the Counselor to Ben Kenta and Daisy's very worried about him and a qualified Counselor herself - she'll probably want to talk to you about him as well as the ghosts on the station. LOL
Be afraid, Erik. *Sniggers* Be very afraid.
Ran and Katrina - again, TAG!!! :P:P:P
