“Confusion at Elcar Village”
(contd from Kim’s ‘Daisy-zilla vs Tokyo-Trell’)
Location: ANDARA
SD: 2.80213.2013
Scene: Elcar Village-> Woods
Kate inquired, laying a hand on Varn’s shoulder. “Thomas…what happened?” She watched in horror when the colour went out of the CSciO’s eyes, thus rendering them completely white.
“I can’t…see,” Thomas replied, slowly feeling confused. “It was the light.”
MacNeil sighed, feeling horrified over her crewmate becoming blind. “What light, Thomas? The Scot questioned when Jake, Trella and Drake approached them.
The science officer asked, sounding bewildered. “You didn’t see the light?”
“No,” The half-Nuimon stated, shaking her head.
Crichton asked. “What happened?”
Kate answered, sighing. “Thomas has gone blind.”
“But how?” Palandora queried, looking puzzled.
Thomas explained. “It was the light that blinded me.” Both Kate and Jake helped the tall man to his feet. Varn placed his hand on the wall to maintain balance. At that moment, Eishnala and Mowree entered the great hall, hoping to get everyone out.
Drake said, glancing around the place for anything suspicious. “I didn’t see any light.”
“Me neither,” Jake stated.
Trella brought up. “There was something strange in that broadcast, giving me a dreadful feeling.” She watched the ExO and Counselor push their way through the crowd.
Kor warned in a low voice. “We need to get everyone out of here.” Watching Thomas leaning against the wall and the state of his eyes, the Andorian inquired, out of concern. “What happened to you?”
“Flashes of light emanated from the screen and blinded me,” the young officer replied.
“That’s odd,” Kor mused, looking slightly pale from having vomited out the food eaten during the feast earlier. “Mowree and I heard a loud noise, but saw no light.”
Crichton shook his head. “I didn’t hear any noise.” The situation was very strange. A simple news broadcast shown on the ‘Window’ had led to confusion amongst both the Andarans and members of the away team.
Eishnala questioned quickly. “What did the rest of you see?”
“I don’t remember other than feeling confused and awful,” the Ops officer answered nervously as she watched over the Andarans.
Mowree observed, studying the facial expressions of the villagers. “Something doesn’t seem right here and I think it has something to do with the news broadcast.”
“We head back to our freighter.” Kor mentioned, eyeing the CSciO. “Mr. Stormfeather will need some medical attention.” After the Andorian woman shared a few words with Haxer, the Starfleet officers left the hall.
“Look,” Trella called out, moving away from the group to stand in front of a window. At the Vissian’s feet, two birds, both of which were grey with yellow stripes, were lying on the ground motionless. The security chief picked up one of the avian creatures and quickly noticed its eyes had been coated white like Varn’s had been. “Do birds on this planet have white eyes?”
Varn replied, being held by Jake. “From my research on the planet’s species, there are none with fully white eyes.”
Kate inquired, eyeing the birds with sadness filling her indigo eyes. “Are they alive?” The Scot picked up the other bird and stroked it gently.
“I don’t believe so,” Palandora replied solemnly.
Eishnala decided, looking at the dead bird. “We’ll take both birds. There’s a strong chance the broadcast must have affected them the same way as Mr. Stormfeather.”
Before anyone else could respond, a high pitched scream was heard a few feet away. Most of the away team turned their heads in the direction of the commotion and became witness to a horrific sight.
A young boy of about eleven was attacking an older Andaran man, whom everyone deduced to be his father, with a tree branch. “Stop!” The adult yelled. “My son, what’s happened to you! Please stop!”
Trella handed the bird to Kate and went with Drake to help the Andaran man before it was too late. When the ILO attempted to separate the two Andarans, the branch accidentally hit the half-El Aurian’s cheek, knocking him backwards. Palandora snatched the weapon from the boy’s hands and held him tightly from behind. Drake spotted a sinister look forming in the preteen’s eyes and became troubled. The other team members, along with Haxer and a few villagers arrived at the scene. The Vissian handed the boy over to two Andarans.
Haxer inquired, addressing the attacker’s father. “What happened, Uien?”
“I saw my son standing outside the window,” Uien explained, panting. “So I decided to go outside and invite him to attend the feast. But when I approached him, he just suddenly attacked me.”
One of the Andarans holding the preteen informed. “He’ll need to go to the detention facility like the other boy.” Eishnala perked up with interest at the mention of the ‘other boy’.
Uien nodded, looking sadly at Haxer. “I understand.” The Andaran got up, wincing with pain at the scratches and bruises received from the assault and told Trella and Drake with gratitude in his voice. “Thank you for your help.”
“We’re glad to be of assistance,” the El Aurian hybrid stated politely. The Andarans slowly dispersed from the scene with a bunch of them heading back inside the great hall. Turning to his crewmates, the intel officer observed. “This is really bad.”
Eishnala nodded, going by Drake’s alias for the mission. “I agree with Mr. Stone.” Pondering for a moment, the ExO announced. “Change of plans. We will not be returning to the freighter, yet.”
“I’d like to take apart that viewscreen they refer to as ‘Window’ and study it,” Crichton suggested.
“Point taken.” Kor nodded before turning to Jake and Thomas. “Mr. Smith, you will accompany me to the woods with Mr. Stormfeather. We will need to contact our boss at the station, apprising her of our current situation.”
Jake acknowledged. “Understood.”
Eishnala ordered, turning to the others. “The rest of you will remain here and mingle with the villagers to gather information on what’s happening with the children, perhaps even finding a way to get inside that detention facility and meet either of the two boys.”
Kate walked over to her ExO and handed the two birds. “You’ll need the birds as well to send back.”
“Thank you, Miss Carter.” The Andorian nodded, referring to Kate’s cover name ‘Elizabeth Carter’. After taking the birds, Eishnala followed Jake, who helped the science chief walk, into the woods. A few minutes after the trio had covered a few feet into the forest, Kor tapped on her civilian comm. badge. The CO and ExO of the GATEWAY discussed for a few minutes before the blond woman informed.
[[I will be coming to ANDARA in the CHANTICO shortly. Remain in your positions until we contact you again.]] Daisy sighed for a moment before continuing. [[I am planning on visiting the Prime Minister in the hopes of opening diplomatic relations with the Andarans with the press covering me. This should distract everyone from your mission.]]
Eishnala acknowledged. “Understood.” After Thomas and the two Andaran birds were beamed back to the USS CHANTICO, Kor and Crichton would return to join the rest of their team in the village.
