Daisy's fingers drummed impatiently against the arm of the command chair as
she waited for word that Thomas Varn had been settled into sickbay. Once
he was stabilized, she planned on decloaking and then opening a direct channel
to the Prime Minister.
Worrying about Gavi and LJ made the collar of her uniform feel uncomfortably
tight. She didn't want to be here. She wanted to be back on the station
chasing after her kids and wringing their scrawny necks for escaping from the brig. Knowing she had to trust them to Wangel Erek and the Risan school teacher,
Arby, Daisy tugged at her collar with annoyance and continued waiting for
that medical update on Lt. Jg. Varn.
Nothing.
Finally, she hailed sickbay.
"Dr. Poe, report."
Dr. Poe managed to tap her comm badge. However, the sounds of violence
muffled her voice. Daisy could hear sickening thuds and the clutter of equipment
crashing against the walls. Rather than acknowledging Daisy, the overwhelmed
Orion doctor called out for help.
[[ "I need Security in sickbay" ]]
Daisy jumped out of her chair. "Lt. Muller, you have the bridge."
During the few moments it took Daisy to sprint from the bridge to sickbay,
Thomas had trashed the place, been tackled by a security team and stunned.
As Daisy walked in through the main doors, they were picking up the limp
body of her young friend and struggling to maneuver his large, white wings
so that he could be laid down on a biobed.
Daisy rolled her eyes and groaned. "Thomas, Dammit...." Then, she stepped
forward to try and offer assistance.
"It was immediately clear the damage was too great." Dr. Poe began to
explain, before chiding one of the security officers to handle Thomas's
wing carefully. He stepped on some feathers and they were ripped away,
leaving a startling trickle of blood on the floor.
"What about Occular replacements?" Daisy asked, grabbing a dermal
regenerator to fix the wound on his wing.
"Sorry, Commander...." the Security officer, mumbled, embarrassed.
Daisy glared at him. " Just go."
"I was trying to explain how easily we can grow him new eyes and that it's a
simple surgery....." Dr. Poe sighed. The Orion physician had bruises on her
face. "He went into a panic attack and I was trying to talk him down but
he knocked me over with his wings...."
Daisy sighed. "I'm sure he didn't mean to. Let's get him sedated and I'll treat your injuries."
They gave Thomas additional sedation and restrained him to the biobed incase
he woke up. This enabled Daisy to do some quick work on Dr. Poe. The green
skinned woman had some bruising on her face, a cracked rib and some strained
tendons in her shoulder from being tossed about in the scuffle.
A nurse walked in rather timidly as Daisy finished the medical work. Daisy
shot the young Betazoid man a look and chided him. "You're late for your
shift. Dr. Poe could have really used you here half an hour ago."
The young man blinked awkwardly, glancing back and forth between the two
women. He quickly put together that Dr. Poe had been injured by her patient
and moaned, "Oh, I'm so sorry, Commander....Dr. Poe..."
Daisy was finally able to leave once Dr. Poe and the nurse were ready to
begin the replacement surgery. She couldn't help smiling imagining Thomas
with lovely new and "normal" eyes. He took such crap over having those blasted wings....Daisy thought this could be a blessing for him. Atleast his eyes
would look like ordinary, human eyes again.
She was happy as she headed towards the bridge and then her ready
room. Content that Thomas was stable, she set about upgrading her
appearance to a formal dress uniform. It gave her a bit of perverse
amusement picturing how confused the poor Prime Minister would be as
Daisy's face appeared on the screen and she asked
for a diplomatic audience as if they'd never spoken before.
Then, the comm system beeped.
[[ "Commander Davidson?"]]
Daisy frowned. "What is it, Dr. Poe?"
[[ "I've matched the tissue type perfectly....but for some reason, Thomas
is rejecting his new eyes.... I'm afraid they'll have to be removed. I'll be taking
him back into surgery." ]]
Daisy blinked. "Right. Ok." Her heart sank. "Any thoughts why this
happened?"
[[ "I've studied his medical file. I believe it's related to the lab accident that
altered his eyes and the visual processing areas of his brain when he was a
teenager. As much as we would have liked to give him normal eyes....I think
we're going to have to reproduce the sort of eyes he had before..." ]]
"Dammit." Daisy sighed. " The chances of recreating that lab accident are,
at best, slim to none..."
[[ "We'll have to try. " ]] Dr. Poe moaned. [[ "Without eyes and those big
wings of his - he'll barely be able to navigate any kind of normal existence...
but really, I must go. If his fever gets any higher, he could have a seizure." ]]
"Of course. " Daisy groaned. "Once you have him stabilized, contact a
Dr. Cade Foster and a Dr. Aerdan Jos on the USS STONEHENGE. They are
both very familiar with Lt. Jg. Varn and may be able to assist you over subspace
in terms of programming the new tissue growth..."
[[ "Aye, Commander" ]]

NRPG:
Shawn - I was thrilled with your post!! :) I would write more - but I didn't want to spoil anything you might be planning for your part two. This was just something I promised Justin - that I would established they have to reproduce the same kind of eyes he had before.
JAMIE - TAG! :)
Justin - TAG~!! Got any funky dream sequences up your sleeve? I have to wonder what Thomas would dream at a time like this and dreams provide a lot of character insight.
