“Life is but a dream”
(Continued from “Explosive Toothpaste Part 2”)
Location: Thomas’ Dream, GS2
Scene: Thomas’ Quarters
Stardate:[2.8]0219.1206
Thomas laid completely still, his body relaxed and very peaceful. Breathing in and out his chest slowly rose and fell as the involuntary movements continued. It wasn’t long before his peaceful rest was disturbed by his alarm sounding. Groaning slightly he heard a voice from the next room, [[No use in ignoring it, you can’t be late you’re the Chief for pity sake.]]
With the sudden shock Thomas’ eyes shot open as he sat up shirtless, and with a stranger in his room no less. Quickly scrambling he looked around before wrapping the bed cover over him as he slowly peaked into the next room. Taking a step forward he breathed in deep and called out, “Hello?”
Looking around he sight relieved that he may just be hearing things but he was soon stopped again as the voice returned his call, [[What you expected me to be there? You know my shift started a while ago, but I thought I’d do you a favor and wake you up like you asked. Oh, don’t make any plans for tonight, I want to talk to you about some things ok?]]
Looking around Thomas tried to find where the voice was coming from. It was familiar yet very strange to him and he couldn’t seem to locate the source of the communication. As he scrambled to find the voices source he stopped dead in his tracks when it began again, [[Thomas, are you even listening to me? Listen I’ve got to go, but remember no plans]]
With that the channel closed and Thomas was left to his shirtless silence. Sniffing once he just shook his head before walking into his room and putting on his uniform in a hurry. Scrambling around trying to find his coat Thomas shook his head and threw his arms into the air before replicating a new one. Luckily for him, he had saved the design in a data padd and transferred it to Gateway when he came aboard.
Running out of his quarters and down the corridor Thomas fiddled with his collar before nodding in satisfaction. Stepping into a turbolift the small group of officers looked at him confused slightly, but none said a word. It wouldn’t be until Thomas reached the labs that he would be confronted in a sense by one of his deputies.
“When did you pull that thing out chief?” Schee, the Benzite assistant asked walking up to Thomas and handing him a padd of the latest reports.
Thomas was slightly confused but shrugged at the comment and continued on. He couldn’t quite put his finger on it but the atmosphere of the room had changed, as if everyone knew his work style now, but that was impossible. He hadn’t been on Gateway long enough.
“Mr. Schee, I want to talk…” Thomas began looking up from the padd at the assistant chief, before being cut off.
“With all the senior officers of each field, I know, but they are all waiting on you in your office,” Schee said with a soft laugh and a smile as if saying, this isn’t the first time you’ve told me this.

Handing a padd to the officer that had come to relieve Thomas from the labs he smiled and breathed deep. Today was a good day, and everything went off without a hitch, but yet Thomas couldn’t shake the feeling like the crew had gotten used to him rather quickly. Pushing the feeling off, Thomas slowly made his way out of the labs and into the corridors of Gateway.
The journey was a semi-familiar one that Thomas in his short time had begun to walk back to his quarters. By now he had completely forgotten about what was said over a comm channel this morning and how someone was waiting for him back in his quarters to talk to him. In fact the thought didn’t cross his mind again until after he took the first step back into his home.
[[Thomas, is that you? I’m in the bedroom come in here for a minute ok?]] the familiar voice stated closer than before, causing Thomas to yet again jump in surprise. Slowly moving, almost tip toeing into the next room Thomas face light up in as the scene around him quickly and drastically changed.

The doors to the lab opened and Thomas stepped in before looking around slightly dazed and distracted. Slowly a few of the officers looked at him before turning to on another as if they were a bit worried by the expression on his face. It wasn’t long before someone walked up to him, but it wasn’t one of the assistants that he had, but a young Trill, that by the rank on her uniform was a Lieutenant.
“Are you alright sir,” the young trill asked before handing him the padd normally Schee would hand him.
“Yes, Lieutenant I’m fine, but where is Mr. Schee,” Thomas asked as he took the padd and began reading through it.
“Schee sir, oh you mean Lieutenant Schee. He was transferred to a science vessel almost a month ago, don’t you remember sir,” the young woman said softly watching Thomas’ face contort slightly in confusion.
Thomas looked up shaking his head as the dream continued and his mind finally caught up he nodded, “Oh, yes that’s right. Old habit Lieutenant, old habit.”
Smiling the young trill nodded in understanding, “Yes, sir, you two had been working together for quite a while.”
Walking around the room slowly Thomas began his small inspection of the department and the experiments that anyone had been running. Thomas was stopped as someone came up to him and caught his attention.
“Yes Ensign,” Thomas asked as he turned putting the padd down and away from eye level.
“Sir, your wife is in your office. She asked us not to tell you but I thought that it would be best to since you normally don’t go in there until much later in the shift,” the young officer said smiling.
Laughing softly Thomas nodded and shook his head before walking through the sea of science officers before stopping at his office door. Turning slowly Thomas smiled and looked over the officer before turning and entering his office.

Scene: Bridge

Walking through the doors Thomas looked out on the bridge of the ship breathing in deeply. Looking around he slowly moved out and ran his finger across a console before smiling.
“Is she what you expected Captain,” a voice asked from behind Thomas causing him to turn around.
Nodding his head once Thomas smiled, “Yes Admiral, she’s a fine ship and will serve the fleet well.”
Walking out to the middle of the bridge the Admiral looked around, “Computer activate view screen and display data on the USS TELSA.”
[[USS TELSA, Legend Class Explorer, commissioned in the year,]]
“Computer, run through list of command staff,” Thomas stated moving to the middle of the bridge beside the Admiral.
[[The USS TELSA command staff is as followed, Commanding Officer Captain Thomas Varn, Executive Officer Commander Chelsea Waynewright, Second Officer and Chief Science Officer Lieutenant Alyissa Varn]]
“Computer stop,” Thomas said turning slowly to the Admiral, “You didn’t tell me Alyissa was assigned to my ship.”
“Thomas would you have let her when she requested it, if I had to you,” the admiral asked looking at him with soft eyes.
“Daisy, she’s my daughter, and she will serve under me like a normal officer, but don’t you think it’s a bit odd,” he said looking at his old Commanding Officer and friend smiling, “but I wouldn’t expect anything less from you.”
Looking around Thomas sighed softly before Daisy smiled and patted his shoulder, “I know, a lot has changed we all have. I remember a time when a certain science officer wouldn’t walk around out of his quarters without a coat on to hide his wings.”
Smiling softly Thomas chuckled and nodded before looking at her, “Yeah, but Alyissa didn’t mind showing hers off.”
Nodding Daisy smiled, “You were all worried when you found out you were having a child that the genetic manipulation would pass to them. But that all changed the second she was born, you didn’t care anymore. I truly believe that’s the day you fully stopped trying to hide your wings.”
Thomas shook his head slowly, “No, that wasn’t but I remember the day. It was the day when Alyissa looked up at me and asked why I hid my wings and if she should hide hers.”

Time Index: Three Months Later
The TELSA shook violently as weapon fire struck its shielding sending sparks flying from the very consoles. Grabbing on to his chair Thomas shouted, “Report!”
“Shields are at thirty-five percent, all decks are reporting system failures,” one of the bridge officers shouted, “Sir and they’re coming back for another attack run.”
“Helm, bring us about and prepare to engage,” Thomas shouted before turning to watch his daughter take the place of the science officer on the bridge.
The battle continued on for a few more moments and with the TELSA already on it way to being crippled it wasn’t a tough opponent. As sparks and crew men flew Thomas’ worst fears were realized when engineering reported in, [[Bridge, we have a coolant leak, the warp core is going critical.]]
“Can we eject the core,” Thomas asked quickly.
[[Negative, it’s too late]]
Activating the comm system Thomas shouted, “This is the captain speaking all hands abandon ship, all hands abandon ship.”
Quickly the bridge crew stood up and began to move out to their respective escape pods. Thomas stood there and watched the view screen before walking over to the helm console and sitting down. Quickly programming the ship to ram the attacking vessel Thomas stood and turned making sure his daughter had left the bridge.
Nodding he walked over before ship shook again and the lights and consoles flashed. Walking to a turbolift Thomas stopped before running into the door as it did not open. As the ship shook again, Thomas turned to the view screen watching the ship slightly veer of preprogrammed course.
“The navigational computer must have been damaged,” Thomas stated to himself before sitting back down at the helm switching it to manual.
[[Captain what are you doing?!]] A familiar voice shouted over the static filled comm system.
“Alyissa, get on the escape pod I’ll be right behind you,” Thomas shouted maneuvering the ship into position.
[[Captain…daddy, you promise.]]
Smiling Thomas nodded, “Yes, and tell your mother I promise too.”
[[Wait, no!]] was all that was able to get through before the channel shut down.
Thomas watched and waited as the ships systems one by one failed and the two ships flew together at high speeds. As the two ships came together Thomas’ eyes narrowed, “You Dominion rebels have been a problem ever since the end of the war, but now we fix that problem.”
Within moments of each other the ship rammed into one another spewing debris outward, and with that final shockwave the TELSA’s warpcore breached. Thomas closed his eyes as the bridge around him was suddenly gone.

Slowly blinking Thomas looked around at the blurry surroundings as his mind snapped into place of where he was, “You operated didn’t you?”
Slowly Doctor Poe walked over to him and nodded before opening her tricorder, “Yes Lieutenant we did.”
Closing his eyes Thomas turned silent refusing to talk or even move. Doctor Poe turned to a nurse and whispered orders for him to inform Commander Davidson that Thomas was awake.
NRPG: Doesn’t move the story forward but Kim asked for a dream sequence lol. I hope everyone enjoys.
