“Moving Forward”
(contd from Taylor’s ‘116’)

Location: FREIGHTER
SD: 2.80228.1642
Scene: Bridge
TI: Before the 13th fleet’s arrival

After narrowly escaping the clash with the Dominion
battle cruiser, the remaining away team members turned
their attention back to ANDARA. Kathryn MacNeil
thought of Drake stuck in the enemy vessel with dismay
but realized Eishnala was right, they had to complete
the mission. She hoped the ILO was alright. The
half-Nuimon’s mind moved to the Andaran boy she had
brought back to the CHANTICO, which resulted in
blowing up her cover. She wondered how he was faring
and whether Dr. Poe was successful in the surgery.
Hearing a beeping sound from her console, the former
doctor announced with a sigh of relief. “We’re being
hailed.”

“By who?” Eishnala questioned, her antennae perking
up.

“It’s the CHANTICO.” The half-Nuimon informed.

The Andorian ordered. “Put them on screen.” She
watched Kate tap a button before turning her attention
to the viewscreen. The view of the stars filled
blackness representing space got replaced by the scene
of the raptor’s bridge, where an operations officer
stood up from the command chair and spoke.

{{Cmdr. Kor,}} Muller began. {{Do you need any
assistance?}} Before the ExO could muster a reply, the
ship rocked violently, nearly causing some to lose
their balance.

Kor queried, struggling to grip the chair handle.
“What’s going on?”

Pallandora reported from the tactical console. “I am
detecting four Dominion fighters at our starboard.”
The freighter shook again resulting in sparks erupting
from all the consoles and pieces of the bulkhead
shearing off and raining down on the floor.

Thomas warned, trying to maneuver the vessel to avoid
contact with the green blasts. “We won’t be able to
outrun them.” The fighters were relentless in their
assault on the rickety old freighter as their cannons
continued to send out laser blasts, which had managed
to penetrate the failing shields.

Crichton informed, narrowly avoiding a piece of the
wall hitting him. “I’ve lost shields and there are
hull breaches forming all over the ship. We won’t last
much longer.” Jake quickly jumped away when his
console suddenly exploded. Mowree got up from his
chair and rushed to see if the CEO was okay and the
latter politely assured the Caitian that he was fine.

“Understood,” his superior acknowledged before
deciding. “We need to evacuate.” Turning to the
viewscreen, she inquired as a fire appeared as a
result of the explosion. “Can you transport us out
now?” The flames engulfed the shattered console and
began spreading all over the ship.

Muller nodded. {{Yes ma’am.}} Within a few seconds,
the away team was engulfed in a bluish hue beam and
vanished as entire bulkheads began caving in, smashing
everything in sight.

The CHANTICO leapt away from the scene as the
freighter exploded, taking along two of the Dominion
fighters with it. The raptor powered up its weapons,
sending out torpedoes that swiftly decimated the
remaining enemy fighters.

At that moment unnoticed by the away team while they
escaped to the CHANTICO, fifty ships that made up the
13th fleet arrived in the Andaran sector.

TI: Overlapping the FedCom broadcast

The doors to the bridge opened, allowing the away team
into the room. Muller vacated the command chair for
Eishnala to take control. The Andorian commanded as
she took her seat. “Activate the cloaking device.”

Trella complied as she took her station. “Aye ma’am.”
The Vissian danced her fingers on the surface of the
console and then informed. “Cloak activated.”

Turning to the front, the ExO ordered. “Helm, set
course for ANDARA and remain just above the planet’s
orbit.”

Kate announced. “I’m getting an important FedCom
broadcast…live from the planet itself.”

Eishnala stood up, her antennae twitching nervously.
“Put it on screen, Commander.”

“Yes ma’am,” the Ops officer complied, tapping a few
buttons on the console. All eyes were glued to the
viewscreen where the figure of FedCom reporter,
Clooney St. George appeared, looking pale and clearly
shaken.

Thomas murmured to Crichton. “What’s going on down
there?”

“I guess we’ll find out soon,” the engineer shrugged,
not having a good feeling about the broadcast as
Clooney stepped aside to allow Vorta Ambassador Vertec
to speak.

Kor’s face expression darkened at the sight of Vertec.
Questions poured rapidly into her mind such as the
Vorta’s presence on the planet, where her CO and the
Andaran Prime Minister were and why they weren’t in
the broadcast. Alarm bells suddenly rang in the blue
woman’s head. Something was wrong and she felt it.

<Some parts in the next few paragraphs taken from
Kim’s post, ‘Lightning strikes, thunder crashes, rain
falls’>

Clooney looked nauseous. Struggling to sound
professional, he asked, {{Was I summoned here so you
could address what has happened to the Prime minister
and the Commanding officer of GATEWAY station?}} Kate
straightened herself, watching the exchange intently
and nervously. Mowree strode next to the Andorian
ExO’s position.

{{Yes, it is a sad day, indeed,}} began the Vorta.
{{We were horrified to discover the treachery of
Blithis and the woman from Starfleet, openly and
shamelessly holding discussions in violation of our
treaty and we have dealt with them accordingly.}}

Kate exclaimed in shock. “No, it can’t be!”

“Apparently it has,” Trella stated sadly. “Our
Commander and the prime minister are likely imprisoned
by the Dominion.”

“They can’t have,” Kate said, her purple eyes growing
wide and her face becoming paler, when Vertec ranted
on about Starfleet audacity.

Mowree announced, quietly. “What is Mr. St. George
doing?” He watched with concern at Clooney jumping to
his feet and the reporter cried out with disgust,

{{Oh, stop it!  Where are they?!}}

Jem Hadar guards pulled their weapons on the reporter.
{{I only hope Lynda can forgive me for what I've done,
how I sabotaged the efforts of the crew on GATEWAY and
how I've helped you hurt the people here.}} Clooney
replied, his voice thick with emotion. Gasps were
heard from MacNeil at the reporter’s admission. Trella
made a mental note to implement stricter measures to
vet any non-essential personnel like the press.

 {{I'm sure I don't know what you mean.}} Vertec
smiled sweetly.

Then, Clooney asked again. {{Where are they?}}

The Vorta bragged that Daisy and Blithis went where
all who are guilty of crimes against the Dominion go.
They were already on their way to one of the labor
camps. Kate was incensed at the Vorta’s audacity in
boasting about her capture of Daisy and Blithis.

Vertec laughed with a sickening sweetness. {{They
thought to come to this planet and undermine us on
Dominion soil? We aren't going to stand for that.}}

The next few minutes of the broadcast put everyone in
silence. Kate tried to brush away tears at the thought
of Daisy spending time in a labor camp. From what the
Scot heard of Dominion labour camps, the information
brought a chill down her spine. The broadcast ended
with the deaths of both Clooney and the Vorta
Ambassador. The atmosphere in the room was currently
morose. The crew’s commanding officer was a prisoner
of war and they knew Drake was too as well. Everyone
turned their heads towards Eishnala hoping for some
guidance from her.

The Andorian, feeling shaken up from viewing the
broadcast, got up from the chair and informed her
crewmates quietly. “Meeting in the briefing room,
now.”

-------------------
Scene: Briefing Room

Eishnala seated at the head of the table, where
Davidson would have sat, eyed her fellow officers in
grim silence. With the Commander imprisoned, she was
placed in charge for the interim. Remaining calm in
front of everyone in the room, the ExO began. “I
understand this is a tough time for all of us after
what we’ve seen in the broadcast but right now we need
to focus all our attention in completing this
mission.” Kate was about to open her mouth to protest
but the ExO gave her a serious look that prevented the
Scot from saying anything. “Commander Davidson would
have wanted us to stay on course with the mission,”
she added, her tone softening a minute later.

Jake brought up. “We will need to work on locating the
source of the signal and put a stop to it.”

“Right, Mr. Crichton,” Eishnala agreed before
inquiring. “Any thoughts on how we proceed with that?

The CEO replied with confidence. “We should be able to
use the CHANTICO sensors to track down the source of
the signal and configure them to adjust to the changes
in signal properties.”

“Good.” Kor shook her head. “Now on to another matter,
once we’ve located the signal we will need to
eliminate it. Any suggestions?”

Varn offered, his newly grown eyes fixed on the
Andorian. “The signal can be stopped by creating a
duonetic field around the planet, which will result in
disabling all technology there.”

“Good idea,” Eishnala nodded. “Mr. Varn, Mr. Crichton,
you both will work on locating the signal and finding
a way to generate the duonetic field.” The two men
complied with a ‘yes ma’am’ in chorus. Turning to
Grace Poe, the Andorian inquired. “What’s the
condition of the Andaran child?”

The Orion doctor gave her report on the surgery
performed on the boy. “The patient was suffering from
an intracranial hemorrhage and his I.C.P levels were
high, when Cmdr. MacNeil brought him in.” She paused
for a moment before continuing her account. “Right now
the patient lives but is in critical condition and
placed under observation in I.C.U. We managed to
repair his intracranial injuries and lower his I.C.P
to its normal levels.”

MacNeil asked slowly. “Will he live?”

“Hard to tell at this point.” Grace shrugged. “His
hypothalamus has been stimulated beyond its limits,
which led to the seizures and hemorrhaging.”

Palandora questioned. “So the stimulation caused by
the signal is what’s causing the aberrant behavior of
these children?”

“Yes.” This time, it was Kathryn who offered a reply.
“The hypothalamus is the part of the brain that
controls emotions like hunger, anger.”

Nurunyon inquired, glancing at the aCMO. “Is he awake
now?”

“I can check,” Poe offered but warned. “But he won’t
be able to talk, at least not for a while.”

“Thank you for report, Dr. Poe.” Kor then decided.
“Continue to monitor the boy’s condition and Counselor
Nurunyon, I need you to go see the child and make a
psychological assessment if possible.”

“Understood,” the Caitian nodded.

“Any questions?” Eishnala checked but no one said
anything and concluded. “And that ends this meeting.
Get to your assignments, everyone. We have lot of work
to do and not enough time.”
