“USS COMMENDATION’s Arrival”
  (contd from Shawn’s ‘Signal Tracking’)

  Location: USS COMMENDATION
  SD: 2.80301.1826
  Scene: Ten Forward

Lt. Cmdr. Tran Anh Qui, the battle cruiser’s chief medical officer settled herself at a table by the window. The Vietnamese woman glanced at the window and admired the scene before her with a serene smile. The ship was approaching the wormhole along with the rest of the 13th fleet to embark on a brief journey to the Gamma Quadrant, where they would soon join the war against the Dominion. Lt. Cmdr. Tran sighed with sadness at the thought of the amount of lives at stake as soon as they came out on the other side.

“Dr. Tran, mind if I join you?” A Bajoran woman in her late twenties asked, carrying a glass of orange juice.

Qui nodded, motioning the other man to take a seat. “Be my guest, Lt. Polairis.”

Polairis Arisa, the Chief Engineer, sat down opposite the doctor and began, fiddling with her glass and glancing at the wormhole with reverence. “This is a moment I’ve been waiting to endure for a long time.”

“It must have been hard for you during the period when the wormhole disappeared,” Tran observed, sipping from her cup of tea.

Arisa shook her head as she stared intently at the window, where the ship edged closer to the wormhole. “Indeed it was.” The two women were silent for a moment before the CMO spoke up.

“Well, I guess it must be a huge relief for you now that the Celestial Temple reappeared.”

Arisa commented with a smile. “I can say perhaps the prophets realized we needed them very much.” The COMMENDATION, at that moment, had entered the wormhole. Polairis got up and apologized. “I’m sorry for the abrupt end of our chat but I need to return to Main Engineering.”

The older woman nodded with a smile. “That’s no problem.”

  Scene: Corridor-> Main Bridge

Lt. Evelyn Williams, the COMMENDATION’s Strategic Operations Officer, walked briskly along the corridor to report to her CO. She had only just joined the crew, having been picked up from Starbase 9, along with two other officers, Lt. Telara the ILO and Major Enrique Mendez, MCO. Evelyn admitted feeling thrilled about her new assignment, not because she got to be on the frontlines or that her last posting was awful. It was just that after being on the USS POSEIDON since her graduation from the Academy, the young woman started to get bored.

The doors slid open allowing the dark blonde haired woman to enter the bridge, where most of the senior staff members were working diligently at their stations. Lt. Cmdr. Matthew Haley, standing behind the security station, was the first to spot the new arrival. The Human/El Aurian hybrid noticed the younger officer displayed an air of confidence as she attempted to locate the Captain’s Ready Room. It was then he realized she was the new SOO Captain Spankryz informed him about that morning. He quickly returned back to his work as Evelyn managed to find his wife’s office and headed there.

Turning to the ExO, Commander G’blok, the Sec/Tac remarked, his eyes still on the console. “Heard we got some new people.”

The Klingon man, seated in the command chair, nodded. “Indeed we do. As a matter of fact, two of them have already reported to the Captain a few minutes ago.” G’blok muttered to himself with annoyance. “Though I’m not so sure why this particular ILO especially after her failure in the EARTHSEA two years ago.”

Ensign Talbo announced from the helm. “We’ll be entering the wormhole, ETA 1 minute 20 seconds.”

G’blok nodded towards the Ocampan pilot. “Thank you, Ensign.” Tapping on his comm. badge, the Klingon informed. “Bridge to Captain Spankryz, we’re about to enter the wormhole.”

TI: After the 13th fleet’s arrival in the Andaran sector

The COMMENDATION along with around 50 starships that made up the 13th fleet came through the wormhole to be met with a slight problem- the presence of a Dominion battleship in the station’s vicinity. Anaqueen Spankryz felt the ship slowing down as her husband announced. “Sensors detect the presence of a Dominion vessel.”

Ana ordered. “Go to red alert.” Immediately alarm klaxons began blaring off giving the indication there was danger ahead and they had to be battle ready.

G’blok inquired, sounding alert. “Are we going to attack?”

“We will have to hear from the MATACO first,” his Trill superior replied. As the fleet neared the station, the Dominion ship had left the area, puzzling everyone in the room. Lt. Blex, the ship’s Counselor, glanced around the room. The Denobulan man glanced briefly at the CSciO, a young Benzite male, Lt. JG Stramere paying no heed to anything besides the readings on his screen.

G’blok growled, referring to the Dominion vessel. “Cowards”

Commander Lena Daiuon, the ship’s Ops officer, informed. “Captain, I’m receiving a message from the MATACO. They’re ordering us to stand down and prepare to dock at the GATEWAY.”

“Thank you, Commander,” Ana acknowledged the Betazoid woman and turned to Lt. Cmdr. Haley. “Commander, cancel red alert.”

  Scene: Captain’s Ready Room
  TI: 1 hour later

Ana had just finished speaking with Commodore Necarra, CO of the 13th fleet regarding the current situation in the Andaran sector. The Trill was hardly surprised at the Dominion’s recent actions as seen in the FedCom broadcast and she was worried over Daisy’s welfare. The Dominion was not known to treat their prisoners well. The door chimed and Ana gave the command to give permission to the visitor to enter.

Matthew inquired as he approached his wife’s position. “Aren’t you supposed to be finished for the day?” He placed a PADD on her desk.

“Not for a couple of hours,” the Trill Captain replied with a shrug.

Her half-El Aurian husband pointed out with concern in his voice. “It’s better for you to take some rest before we head into our next mission.”

“I have lot of work to do,” Ana sighed, nodding at the stack of PADDs on the side. Watching the rather disappointed expression on his face, the 31 year old woman assured. “I will, once I’m done.”

“Alright, but don’t take too long.” Matthew said, grinning. “I will need to sleep early tonight since I have a security drill tomorrow at 0600 hrs.” He brought up a minute later. “I see Telara has joined us here.”

“Yes, I met with her before we entered the wormhole,” the Trill CO stated. “Frankly, if SFI wants to assign an agent here, I’d rather it be Lt. Telara.”

Haley recalled. “She was very helpful back on the QUEEN ELINA.” The hybrid winced slightly as his wife’s blue eyes suddenly went cold. It was not due to Telara but the mention of her mother’s cruise ship and the disaster that took place during its maiden voyage, which put her brother into a coma.

“Yes she was,” Ana agreed quietly, not wanting to speak any further on the subject.

Matthew said, changing subject. “I will have to speak with our new MCO tomorrow.”

  The Trill nodded. “That’s good.”

NRPG: This is not mission-related, but I figured I would write about the COMMENDATION’s perspective of the 13th fleet’s arrival.
