Only Daisy saw Gene walk in. He recognized her as part
of GATEWAY now and made his way to her side.

He knelt down and pulled her into a hug.

"It was over." Daisy sobbed weakly against Gene's chest.
"It was over and I was done. I knew I'd done my best and
everyone was going to be ok. Why can't it just be over?"

She heard his voice. He chuckled softly, knowingly.
"That's not really what you want."

The connection between her consciousness and her body
was getting stronger as the Nanites continued making their
repairs. She groaned and tried to hold onto Gene.

"Take me with you. Take me back." Daisy begged.
"I don't want this anymore."

"You're not ready." he promised. "Not really. Neither of us
are. Now, I'll have to go help the others...their time is
coming. But, you? You'll be ok."

They were seperate from everything else. She could see
and "sort of" feel her physical body lying on the biobed -
but everyone and everything else seemed muffled and faded
like she and Gene were the only truly solid things in the
room.

She tried to hold onto him and again begged for death, for
that comfort and that mercy. The feeling of her own heart
beating was getting louder. It was more than the sound of
it. It was the vibration pulsing through her consciousness,
getting stronger and pulling her down - back into her
  physical body.

Gene seemed to float away. She groaned and put her
hands over her ears.

Daisy was no stranger to pain. She'd known torture. She'd
known danger and abuse. None of it compared to this.

Every nerve ending in her body was awakening. She
was beginning to hear the sounds of the ship, the people
on it and red alert klaxon's blaring with unbearable clarity.
Inhaling sharply, she had no defense against the pain.
There was nothing to do but lie there and endure it.

They were fascinated that she was coming back to life
but cared nothing about making sure she was comfortable.
It took all her strength just to try and open her eyes. The
lights were too bright. She couldn't focus. Daisy tried to lift
her hand to shield her eyes and found her arm was just
   too heavy.

Her eyelids fluttered as she tried again. Bits of light and
color seemed almost to burn through her newly reanimated
optic nerves, forcing her to close them.

She could feel the sounds of the ship through her body, the hum
of it's engines. Finally, something else registered. It was another
kind of sound, another sort of vibration.

Impact tremors.

Her Starfleet training kicked in and she recognized what that
meant. This ship was under attack.

Again, there was nothing she could do. She opened her
mouth to scream. Her throat was so dry and she was so
weak, she barely made a raspy little groan.

Her fingers moved, slowly making a fist. Then, the possibility
occurred to her that someone had gone to a great deal of trouble
to bring her back to life and now she would most likely be killed
all over again.

The thought of it made her smile. Every little thing hurt.
Every nerve ending was awake and screaming. Nothing broke
through the thought of how good it would be to leave behind the
horrifying amount of suffering and energy it was taking just to be
awake, listening, feeling and thinking. Not even her love for her
children or her friends, her love of her job was enough to make this
seem worthwhile. She just wanted to go back to being in that
blissful coccoon of non-existence - when she was at peace
and content that her life's work was done.

Her hands relaxed and Daisy made this little smile as she reached
out mentally. Tears poured from her mostly closed eyes down the
sides of her face as she pleaded with her thoughts...

** Come on, that's it. Keep shooting. Blow us up. Come on.
Make it stop. Make it all just stop...**

She flinched as the doors to the medical lab opened and the
sound of Phaser fire followed. Groans escaped from the
Vorta and the Jem Hadar as they collapsed in pathetic heaps.

Still unable to open her eyes in the harsh lighting, she was
surprised by the feeling of a hand on her throat. Fingers
manually checked her pulse. An unfamiliar voice spoke
about the still darkened lines of her blood veins.

"My god, what have they done to her? Borg Nanites?"

Daisy shuddered as another voice asked, "Commander
Davidson? You're going to be ok, Commander."

Her face contorted with pain and she groaned weakly,
  "No..."

"We've come to take you home, Commander...."

Her eyelids fluttered again. The light was too bright.
She groaned as a transporter marker was placed on her
chest. After that, the shock to her system of a transporter
beam engulfing her was just too much and she passed out.

Ok, she's alive and she's been found. Peter - I'd have written for Drake
but I need you to tell me if you want to keep any clones of Drake to play
  with.

For those of you who may not know, I have three kids and these are their
  birthdays.

  Elizabeth 4/21/90
  Vincent 4/28/91
  Patrick 4/12/92

In addition to those three April Birthdays, my mother will be turning 75
on April 26th and my husband's birthday is May 9th.

So - I'm going to be selfish and lazy. (Grin) During the next month,
I'll be celebrating all these family birthdays as well as my own good
fortune that I'm HIV and HCV negative after having been one of the 40
thousand people who had to be tested because of the recent health
  crisis in Nevada.

Ranjani is an experienced CO and she has a ready-to-play Captain
character on the scene. I hope you'll all enjoy Captain Anaqueen
Spankryz in *TEMPORARY* command of GATEWAY while I take
my time writing Daisy's recovery from this ordeal and handle all
  these family birthdays. :)

Daisy will still be around. I hope to play with the storyline of her
"coming back to life" both physically and mentally - bonding with
her kids again, etc.....as a nice escape from the RL chaos of
all these birthdays. Once all that chaos is done - I should be
able to have the time and energy to
put Daisy back in Command of Gateway. :)

  Thanks!

  Kim
