Dr. Poe normally had an understated "look". She didn't wear cosmetics and she kept
her thick mane of black hair neatly cropped in a short, somewhat masculine cut. It
was a choice that deliberately toned down her natural Orion sensuality and made her
look older, more "bland". Today, though ...fatigue deepened the faint lines of age on
the 40 year old woman's face as she hovered next to Daisy's biobed. She hadn't
slept since taking over Daisy's care.

Daisy, however - had slept the whole way home. The process her body was going
through was an exhausting one.

Captain Spankryz walked in and greeted the Orion physician with a cool and
professional nod. Then, she asked simply, "Report, Doctor?"

"Her Cardiac Ejection fracture is holding at 25%." Began Dr. Poe.

Anaqueen blinked. "Ejection fracture?"

"I apologize." the Orion physician quickly back-pedaled. Then, she explained in
more detail. " The ejection fraction is a measure of the heart's ability to pump blood.
In the normal human ejection fracture, the heart is capable of pumping more than 55
percent of the blood volume in the ventricle."

"So, Daisy's ejection fracture is still far below normal, then - being only 25%."
Anaqueen replied - showing that she was beginning to understand.

Grace Poe managed a weak smile. "Considering Drake's estimation of how long
Daisy had been dead before he infected her with the Borg Nanites, the fact that
she's holding at 25% is excellent! You're right, though - that it's still well below
normal and means that she's extremely weak. "

"And the Nanites?" Anaqueen asked.

"Busy making repairs. I'm cautiously optimistic that we could see her eventually
make a full recovery, Captain." Grace replied.

Anaqueen stepped closer to Daisy's biobed and gently put her hand on Daisy's
forehead. The warmth of the sleeping woman's skin startled the trill and Dr. Poe
quickly explained,

"It's the Nanites. Her body is still saturated with their energy and it elevates
her temperature. However, that's stabilized as well. She's holding at 39.1 °C .
Still, I would classify her overall condition as 'serious - but stable'."

Anaqueen sighed and managed a weak smile. "Thank you. I'll be taking command
of the station until she's recovered. Please inform your staff that I want an hourly
report on Daisy's condition."

"Aye, Captain." Dr. Poe nodded.

It was Autumn in Australia. Still, the cooler weather didn't stop Finn from taking the
boys to the beach.

A man who craved nature and wide open spaces, he'd found even the vast, mighty
GATEWAY clostraphobic and pitied any children forced to live there. Kids were
supposed to be outside, as far as Finn was concerned. They were supposed to have
dirt between their toes and the wind in their hair. A man of simple tastes and
simple needs, he felt the same could probably be said of most adults, too. There
wasn't much in this life that couldn't be made better by simply going on a walkabout
outdoors and getting close to nature.

They weren't even half-way back to Earth when he got the message that Daisy had
been found and he considered telling the boys. He *KNEW* how happy LJ would
be to have it confirmed that Daisy was alive.

The nature of her condition, though - seemed tenuous at best. It broke his heart
to think of LJ having to endure more worry and more despair. He couldn't bring
himself to tell the boy Daisy had been found - while it still seemed to him like LJ
might just lose her yet again. So, Finn made a choice to wait before saying anything
and hoped his adult son would understand.

Oshara was in awe of the waves and the sand. Even though the water was cold,
the alien boy couldn't wait to take off his shoes and run in the surf. Finally, he
saw LJ smile as Oshara jumped, laughed and splashed. The fresh air, the wide
open space - everything about Australia that Finn Lawrence adored - already
seemed to be doing the boys a lot of good.

  "Show me how to live"
  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uSg8do_j_Us&feature=user _______________________________________________________

The winged science officer was eager to check on his CO and his friend. Hoping
that maybe Daisy would be awake when he arrived in sickbay, he was astonished
to hear her voice as she argued with Dr. Poe.

Grace was leaning over the biobed and tryin to coax her awake.

"Come on, Commander. It's time to wake up."

"Noooo....." Daisy groaned weakly. "Lemme alone." Her words felt awkward in
her mouth and sounded slurred. Her tissues now saturated with still furiously
active Nanites, Daisy's face had the pale, splotchy look of a Borg Drone as she
scowled and weakly struggled to push the Orion female away.

Thomas's mouth droped open as the green-skinned physician firmly grabbed
Daisy's arms and half-wrestled her to a sitting position. Daisy's features were
all scrunched up with discomfort and she started cursing, angrily demanding
the doctor leave her alone and let her go back to sleep.

Grace ignored her protests, "No, Commander. You need to be awake, you
need to start making an effort to function if you're going to get your strength
back."

Not wanting to hear it, not wanting deal with anything except her own fatigue,
Daisy flailed against Grace. Her eyes still closed, she managed to slap her
across the face.

Thomas jumped forward, "Daisy?!"

Daisy was too weak to hit the doctor all that hard. Dr. Poe only felt a slight
taste of blood in her mouth and she easily ignored it as Thomas asked,

"Dr. Poe?! You alright?"

Grace just sighed and put her hands on either side of Daisy's face.

"Give me your eyes. Just give me your eyes."

Thomas inhaled sharply as he saw the difficulty Daisy had focusing and
making direct eye contact with Dr. Poe. Grace leaned forward so her
forehead was touching Daisy's and encouraged her,

"That's it. That's it. Look at just one thing at a time. Look at me, ok?"

Daisy's bottom lip quivered. She ached all over but the cool skin of
Grace's hands on her face was oddly soothing. Finally, she nodded
and sat there, meekly, holding Grace's gaze.

The Orion physician smiled weakly. "Lt. Varn is here to see you."

Not taking her eyes away from Daisy's, Dr. Poe made a motion
with her hand for Thomas to step closer. Then, finally, she
pulled him in closer to Daisy.

He noticed Daisy's body flinched as if the effort to move her
focuse from Dr. Poe to himself was almost painful. He managed
a smile and gently teased, "You look like hell." Daisy
chuckled weakly.

"Keep her in this position. I want to do a couple scans and then
get her some soft food." Dr. Poe instructed him.

Thomas leaned in closer so that Daisy could hold onto him and
replied, "Glad to help, Doctor."

Already short of breath just from a few moments of sitting upright,
Daisy slid her hands up around the winged man's neck and
pleaded, "Don't lemme fall, ok?"

The young man puffed up with pride and confidently assured her.
"I wouldn't dream of it, Commander."

She gave him a smile and then rested her head on his shoulder.

Thomas was quite touched by the gesture. He swelled with
pride thinking how wonderful it was that Daisy trusted him.

He gently padded her back and began saying nice things like
how glad he was they'd found her and how happy he was that
she was home. Grace quickly did a few scans and then replicated
a small cup of soup just as Thomas realized Daisy asleep again.
Sitting up on the biobed, her head resting against his shoulder,
the older woman made a faint snoring sound. It was almost a
"purr".

Thomas laughed weakly and considered a cat joke as Grace
helped him gently shake Daisy awake once again. Finally,
she managed to wake up enough for a couple swallows of
soup and she started to look around and process more of
what was going on.

Mowree and Kate walked in just as Daisy asked Dr. Poe,

"Where're my kids? I wanna see my kids."
