A rather spoiled little girl, the drama of Erika's reunion with her mother was quickly put aside in favor of a child's demanding nature. Now that she had her Mom back, she was impatient for things to be normal again.

Daisy still tired very easily. Her heart beat with a steady Ejection fracture of 40% - which was enough for her to be released from Sickbay wearing a monitor. It wasn't enough, though - for her to keep up with a seven year old child.

All drama, the sleepless nights and the worry over whether or not she'd ever see her Mom again was quickly forgotten and replaced by whining that Mommy was too tired to play.

The large bed in Daisy's room was a comfortable area for mother and daughter to curl up with drawing pads and listen to music until, once again, Erika noticed that Daisy's dropped her crayon and was literally asleep with her cheek resting against her paper. Erika rolled her eyes and groaned before finally, actually putting her hand on Daisy's shoulder and gently giving her a little shake.

"Mommy! Wake up!"

Annoyed, Gavi stood in the doorway and harshly whispered, "Stop it!"

Erika stuck out her tongue at him as her older adoptive brother gently pulled the drawing pad out from under Daisy's cheek. The exhausted woman made a slight snoring sound and didn't respond.

Erika whined again,”She's gonna sleep all the time forever. This is so boring!"

Wangel Erek stood in the doorway and sighed. He could imagine Gavirosh was tempted to give his little sister a "Zap" because even he was disappointed in his daughter's behavior. It pleased him that Gavi didn't give into his annoyance with little Erika and use his electricity. Instead, he did what Daisy herself would have done. He pinched Erika's earlobe between his finger and thumb and hissed angrily at her to let their mother rest while he pulled her from the room.

After scolding Erika and sending her to her own room, Wangel Erek patiently sat by Gavirosh on the couch.

"I have to give you credit, son. You've come a long way in terms of your control with your ability."

"Were you scared I'd hurt snotface?" Gavi sighed. "Because she made me mad?"

"I used to be." Erek admitted. "But I can see that Daisy was right and you are a wonderful brother."

The boy sniffled. "I don't want her to hate me like LJ does."

"He doesn't hate you." Wangel Erek promised, quickly pulling Gavirosh into a hug.

The boy sniffled against Wangel Erek's chest. "You didn't see the way he ran from me. I embarrassed him and now he hates me."

Erek's attempt to console Gavi was interrupted by an alarm beeping in Daisy's room. The Bajoran got up quickly and tapped his comm badge.

  "What is it?"

The voice of Dr. Poe from sickbay came through the comm system.

[[I'm reading Daisy's respiration has become labored. Her oxygen level dropped to 92%. Her cardiac functions are still well below normal. Don't let her sleep lying flat. Go prop her up.]]

Wangel Erek jumped up and ran for Daisy's room with Gavirosh following behind. He aggressively shook Daisy awake.

Her eyes opened and she looked confused. Her lips and hands tingled - pins and needles - because she hadn't been getting enough oxygen.

Daisy remembered drawing with her daughter. Her speech sounded a little slurred. "Erika! Where's Erika?"

Wangel Erek helped her sit up and put a couple pillows behind her. Clueless her mother was having a minor crisis, Erika chirped from the doorway,

  "Mommy! You're awake!"

Wangel Erek laughed awkwardly, ”Erika, Darling...."

Daisy grinned weakly and held out her arms. Erika ran and threw herself into Daisy's embrace. Just the effort of raising Erika onto the bed left the weakened mother panting and short of breath. Still, she refused to let her daughter go. She held tightly to her half-Bajoran little girl and sighed, comforted by Erika's smell, Erika’s warmth and the very energy that flowed from the child.

Gently, Wangel Erek pulled his daughter away and chided her that

Mommy needed to rest. Erika sighed and rolled her eyes as Daisy reached past towards Gavi. The boy had been standing in the doorway. Once Daisy motioned for him to approach, he came and gave his Mom a power hug. Her chest ached from the pressure - but she didn't mind. She hugged him tightly and asked in a hoarse whisper.

"How's my big brave boy? Huh?"

Gavi blinked. He didn't want to complain about anything to Daisy. She still looked pale and fragile. There was a medical patch on her neck that glowed and she had circles under her eyes. An older and more mature child than Erika, Gavi was protective and didn't want Daisy to worry about him.

"We were just talking about LJ." Wangel Erek informed her.

Gavi shot Erek a look - scared that Daisy would be upset if LJ's name was mentioned. Daisy soothed Gavi sweetly and tried to cover her sadness. She did her best to show Gavi a confident smile.

"We'll see LJ again, son. I'm getting stronger every day. I'll go after him soon if Mr. Lawrence doesn't bring him home...."

Gavi teased. "Mom - yesterday, you fell asleep sitting on the toilet."

Daisy scoffed, laughing. ”I did *NOT*. I was resting my eyes."

Daisy blushed as Gavi teased her again,”I was waiting outside the bathroom with Erek and I heard you start snoring."

"I do NOT snore!" Daisy laughed.

"Yeah, you do." Erika giggled, sticking out her tongue.

"Ok, all of you, out!" Daisy laughed, giving them all dirty looks.

"My point...." Gavi added, not wanting to leave. "Maybe Erek should go get LJ?"

Daisy threw a pillow at Gavi and then plopped back against the others left behind her. She chided her son breathlessly,

"You go entertain your sister. We'll talk about LJ after I get some...."

"Sleep..." Gavi sniggered, finishing the sentence for her.

"Oh, Ha Ha!" Daisy chortled weakly.

  Scene: Promenade

Putting a grueling morning behind her, Kathryn MacNeil was eager for a relaxing lunch out in the promenade. The various businesses that graced the corridors of the promenade were slowly coming back to normal. A heavy sigh crept out of the young woman’s mouth, when recalling the martial law the marines imposed on the station and the difficulties it caused to all these civilians. It had been a big relief for everyone when the senior staff returned from their mission and lifted the quarantine.

So engrossed in her thoughts was the half-Nuimon that she did not realize someone just bumped into her. Jolted into alertness, MacNeil glanced around and noticed she had reached a corner. A voice, a very annoying and condescending one at that, startled her.

“Watch where you’re going you idiot!”

Turning behind her upon recognition of the voice, Kate addressed a tall, shabbily dressed man with a bewildered tone. “Cade.” **Great, ** the former doctor thought grimly. **As if my day couldn’t get any worse. **

"Well, if it isn't my least favorite cheerleader!" Cade sniggered. "And that's 'Dr. Foster' to you. Some of us are still allowed to practice medicine, you know."

"If you're looking for Daisy, I'm sure she's resting in her quarters." Kate replied coldly, ignoring Foster's insults.

"I'll be there to see her soon enough." Foster assured Kate smugly. "First, I wanted to see her medical records and would you believe that Orion HACK had the audacity to deny me access?"

Kate smirked. "Physician or not, you are a civilian, Dr. Foster. You have no privileges on GATEWAY."

"That will change soon enough." Cade boasted, smiling coldly. "Your so-called Dr. Poe is obviously 'damaged goods'...."

Kate's mouth dropped open at the sheer audacity of Foster's comment. Of all the obnoxious remarks Foster had thrown at her, calling Grace ‘damaged goods’ was by far the worst. MacNeil had only met the woman professionally and talked with her briefly in passing, but Grace had more than proven herself a worthy member of this crew in the Scottish woman’s eyes.

Fury began burning inside her as the Scot glared at the arrogant civilian doctor.
She was tempted to unleash a barrage of her own insults but bit her lip instead. “Dr. Poe,” Kathryn began angrily, “is an excellent physician. Her track record reveals an exemplary and dedicated professional.”

Cade’s response was bursting out in laughter, which only poured oil in the Ops officer’s anger. “You’re such a clueless cheerleader.” Amidst the laughter, the civilian man mocked, waggling his eyebrows. “It’s no wonder Starfleet Medical threw you out. You’re just pathetic. I mean come on! To think a typical Orion slave girl like Poe - who reeks of PTSD - is *exemplary* is something only a cheerleader would say.”

MacNeil had enough. It was one thing to hurt insults at the hybrid but disparaging Grace behind her back was a step too far. Narrowing her purple eyes and fists clenched, Kate railed on the cantankerous man. “How dare you, Dr. Foster!”

“Oooh…I’m scared…” Cade sniggered, pretending to shake his legs in mock fear. But Kate paid no heed to the other’s insult and continued her ranting.

“You’re the so disgusting, pretending to be so high and mighty just because Grace belongs to a certain species,” the Scot scolded. “Frankly, you have no leg to stand on, when dismissing the talents of a fine doctor like Grace Poe.”

“Oh but I do,” Cade boasted. “People beg me to solve their medical problems and I have so many accomplishments that would make even the Chief of Starfleet Medical jealous. Dr. ‘damaged goods’ Poe has nothing on me.” With a smirk gracing his lips, Foster continued to remark disdainfully. “In fact considering her past in an Orion slave ship, Starfleet Medical should ban her due to being a safety hazard caused by her pheromones.”

“She has an inhibitor,” Kate muttered angrily.

"Yes." Foster argued, laughing. "Of course she does. She abuses it to the point where her thyroid is strained. I saw *THAT* in the thickness of her nails as she slapped me."

Giving out a sarcastic chuckle, the auburn haired woman stated. “You’re really a miserable oaf, *Dr. Foster*. It must be eating you up to watch Dr. Poe garner the respect of fellow colleagues who are not bothered over what species or what kind of past she has. No one likes arrogance, doctor, no matter how brilliant you are.”

"Right." Cade sniggered dryly. "I'm arrogant - but she'll be collapsing anytime now from a thyroxine imbalance and because she is - as I've told you - damaged goods."

Kate huffed and stomped her foot. Foster sniggered. "I bet you just can't stand that you won't be able to practice medicine anymore....*former doctor*”

Kate remarked softly. “At least I am remorseful over what I did and realize my mistakes.” Raising her voice, she pointed out with a sardonic smile. “Do check a dictionary regarding the meaning of suspension and expulsion. I would think a man of your brilliance would realize that my disbarment from practicing medicine is only temporary.” With that said, the hybrid turned around and Foster grinned, knowing exactly where she was going.
