Around other adults, Foster emphatically denied having
any particular affection for children. He didn't like anyone
to see him vulnerable.
They always knew he adored them, though. He was
embarrassed even infront of Wangel Erek by the way both
Gavirosh and Erika lit up and launched themselves into
his arms.
Erek smirked as Cade did his best, atleast at first, to only
give the kids minimal reactions. Initially, just a pat on the
head and a polite hug followed by muttering about
wanting to see Daisy.
Erek discreetly pretended to be busy with some lesson
plans for his new teaching job at the GATEWAY school
as the kids tugged on Cade's arms until he stopped trying
to pretend he was too "cool" to like kids and went back
into what Gavi and Erika were accustomed to seeing
from Cade.
The older man ended up sitting on the livingroom floor
with Erika on his lap and Gavi close by as he told funny
stories about the crew of the STONEHENGE and the
Andorian physician Cade had nicknamed "that scraggily
blue Klingon".
The sound of Daisy's younger children still giggling
drifted through the bedroom door when it finally opened.
It reached Daisy in that half-way place between sleep
and waking. She only stirred slightly, her eyes still
closed.
Seeing her lying there gave him pause. Rubbing a hand
against his stubbled chin, he suddenly wondered if maybe
he should have shaved. She always nagged at him
about his whiskers.
The underlying Nanites were only faintly visable even to
his trained eye. That was enough to remind him, though -
how she'd literally run off and gotten herself killed.
As glad as he was to see her alive, part of him was still
furious with her for leaving in the first place. His heart
brought him to GATEWAY, demanding to see her. Now that
he was here, though - his pride and his ego wouldn't
let him simply curl up in that bed with her and take her in
his arms.
The Orion doctor had denied him access to her medical
records but he knew Daisy intimately and was aware of
the personal medical kit she kept in her closet. Slipping
back into the misanthropic, sarcastic doctor "mode"
felt like the most comfortable and appropriate thing to do.
She stirred again when she faintly heard the sound of
her closet door open and shut. Finally opening her eyes,
she saw Cade Foster standing next to her bed. He was
holding her medical tricorder and scanning her.
A warm smile spread across Daisy's face as she looked up
at him.
"Cade! You're really here?"
"Yeah, whatever." He half-snarled at her. Then, he
asked snidely, "So - they just let you sit on your ass
all day? Come on - your ejection fracture is up to
43%. Time to get up and start walking around."
Daisy blinked, still groggy. "Huh?"
He smirked coldly "Come on, Commander Cat Woman.
Come down from your ivory tower and mingle with
us common folk."
Still confused, Daisy sat up and rubbed her eyes.
"What are you talking about?"
"All the kids on the STONEHENGE got those stupid
dolls, you know." he smirked. "Maybe we'll call
"Wingboy" and the two of you can sign some
autographs in the Arboretum."
Daisy groaned and smoothed back her disheveled
hair from her face. Then, she glared up at him.
"I don't know what you're problem is, Cade.
There's no way am I strong enough to walk to the
Arboretum."
He sniggered. "Oh, you can come back from the
dead but you can't walk across a station? That's
rich."
Daisy rolled her eyes and groaned. "God, dial
it down a notch, ok? Why are you being such
an ass?"
"Someone has to get you on your feet and
back to work." he scoffed. "I grant you, I saw
that spotted wench and she's got a nice rack
on her - but if commanding this damn station
is so important to you then let's hurry up and
get you back to it."
"Get out." Daisy finally snapped. " Dr. Poe
is monitoring me and I'm doing my physical
therapy just fine. I don't need you. Not if
you're going to be like this. Go on! Get out!! "
He smirked. "Make me."
Daisy blinked. "Huh? What are you?
Twelve years old? I can call Security quite
easily..."
He gave her a smug grin. "But you won't."
Her eyes widened and she gave him a look
of warning.
"I'm gonna give you to the count of three...."
He laughed openly. "Gavi and Erika both
adore me and you've put them both through
enough. No way you're going to have a security
team come and take me away."
Daisy narrowed her eyes at him with annoyance.
Then, she replied simply,
"One."
A hint of surprise showed on his face. He quickly
added. "Dr. Poe is sick."
Still glaring at him, Daisy replied, "There are
other doctors in sickbay. " Then, she gave him
a little smirk. "Two".
His face softened a bit and he challenged her once
again. "You don't want me to leave."
"You gonna keep yelling at me?" Daisy asked.
He smirked. "Probably."
Daisy scoffed. "Three."

Lieutenant Trella Palandora showed up with one of her
junior officers. She rang the doorchime and gave a smile
to Daisy's daughter.
Erika beamed up at her. "Hi, Dr. Cade came to visit! He tells
funny stories."
Trella gently toussled the little girl's hair. "Oh, I imagine he
does. I hear he's a very smart man. That's why your mom
asked us to come get him. We need his help with a project
in another part of the station, ok?"
Trustingly, the seven year old believed every word. She
nodded. "Ok, but can he come back tomorrow?"
"You'll have to talk about that with your Mommy."
Gavirosh was more perceptive than his little sister and
sniggered under his breath to Wangel Erek as Cade was
gently escorted from the room.
"Oooh, he must have made Mom really mad."
Looking surprised and confused, Wangel Erek asked
the boy, "Why don't you go check on her?"
Gavi ran into Daisy's room and noticed she wasn't in
bed. He blinked for a second or two before finally
knocking on the bathroom door.
"Mom, you ok?"
Daisy sniffled a bit as she stepped out of the bathroom.
It looked as though she'd been crying but she quickly
covered with a smile and gave him a hug.
"I'm fine, son."
Gavi laughed nervously, thinking to himself that
grown-ups are 'wierd'. Then, Daisy asked him,
"What time is it in Australia? I was thinking maybe
we'd try to reach LJ. Mr. Lawrence and Jax should
have told him about me by now..."

NRPG:
Jasmina TAG! Would you like to try your hand at Trella
putting Cade in the brig for a bit? I hope you liked the way I had her
discreetly move past Erika so the little girl wasn't upset in the slightest.
I figured Trella's a pro at her job and would get Cade out of there without
Erika having a clue that Daisy was upset about anything. :)
Justin - TAG! Whatever happened to that post you were working on?
Seems like you disappeared. Anyway - I thought you might enjoy
Thomas seeing Cade in the brig. LOL
Thanks to everyone for their patience with me lately. I'm starting to get back
into a posting routine. I hope to enjoy some "Downtime" to keep working on
that between now and Mother's day. By then, I'll have all the family birthday
parties behind me for the year and a little Mother's day pampering for myself.
Once I get to that point - I'll have Daisy back on active duty again.
Peter - TAG I was glad to see you post for the HENGE. Now that you've managed that -
would Drake enjoy seeing Foster in the brig, too?
Kim Toussaint AKA Commander Daisy Byrne Davidson, M.D.
