  “Light as a Feather”

  (Continued from “122”)

  Location: Gateway Station
  Scene: Security à Brig
    Stardate:

Thomas slowly walked into the security offices looking around before finding the officer on duty. Walking up he explained his presence of being in the offices before being escorted back to the brig. The room was just a few steps from the main security office itself, but it gave Thomas enough time to think about what he may face when scanning the life form.

As the door opened and Thomas stepped in before walking up to the security officer tasked with watching the prisoner or prisoners. Not really moving a muscle the officer just raised his hand slightly and motioned to the small room that now housed the saboteur.

“So, they’ve decided to finally send someone that will try and determine what I am,” the creature stated now in the form of a tall female Orion.

Thomas merely opened his tricorder and began scanning the creature taking readings through the device. Since Doctor Poe was taking care of Daisy, Thomas offered to take the scans and have his department look into the saboteur and give information to medical as well. It didn’t take Thomas long to begin to pick up on the simple tricks of the creature as it changed shape into people he didn’t know and some that he had seen on base trying to be released from the brig.

Just like any trapped predator the creature was checking for weaknesses systematically testing Thomas trying to strike any nerve that was there. Before deciding on a form to take for the moment the creature stood up and walked to the force field, “So, what’s the diagnosis doc?”

Closing the tricorder Thomas looked up and stared the now human looking female he narrowed his eyes, “Did you know that there are thirteen known shape shifting species that have been documented by Starfleet? Several of which you could not be unless you have the ability to travel vast distances quickly, and based on the way you shift forms you rule out several others as well. Your extensive knowledge of personal information and those that could possibly persuade the security officers might make you Wraith from Dakala; however, your inability to find someone from my past causes doubt on that theory. The way that you shift, is from what I can see and hear is not fluid like a founder so that rules that out, unless you are just out of practice. Now, Devidian you could possibly be one of those except for one thing.”

The creature somewhat bored and interested in the ramblings of Thomas raised and eyebrow, “Oh, and what’s that?”

Thomas breathed in, “They live out of phase with life forms like us, and if you were one I wouldn’t be able to see you. Which brings me to the only two other alternatives that you could be, an allasomorph or chameloid.”

Stepping back slowly the creature began to evaluate the situation before its form began to change once again. As the human form slowly began to show more and more skin before her clothing was completely gone and wings were on her back the creature stepped forward once again and looked into Thomas eyes, “see anything you like?”

Standing there Thomas slowly stepped up to the force field and looked at the creature. She licked her lips slowly before swallowing and moving closer to the force field, “drop the field and you can have me.”

Thomas’ eyes narrowed as he leaned as close as he could, “Through all the information you gathered on this stations staff to avoid detection, you don’t know me at all.”

Standing straight Thomas turned to the security officer who was trying his best to hide that he was staring at the naked winged lady. Stopping at the desk Thomas looked to the Lieutenant and spoke plainly, “just remember one thing, she may be beautiful, but she’ll kill you and take your place without hesitation.”

  Scene: Promenade
  Time Index: Thirty minutes later

The usual rabble of shop goers and attendants gathered around the public displays as a Fedcom logo appeared with the triumphant music that was so well known now. As the logo disappeared and the familiar anchors appeared with the usual smiles on their face the crowd was mixed with whispers of interest and disgust.

“Gateway Station, breeding ground for Dominion spies or mutated humans?” the female anchor continued as a picture of Thomas talking to a blurry yet distinguishably naked female human with wings, “our sources say that the so called saboteur of the station has was stripped of all her clothing and is of the species as the stations Chief Science Officer.”

As everyone began to talk amongst themselves about Thomas, the nude winged woman, and the treatment of prisoners that were held on Gateway, Thomas slowly appeared on the promenade.

“Has another one of the stations questionable senior officers turned to support the Dominion? Has the elusive species of the Chief Science Officer shown support as agents of the Dominion and where do his loyalties lie? The people have a right to know the truth. All attempts to contact and speak with the science officer have failed as he has been unresponsive and seems to be avoiding all contact,” the anchor stated once again getting a response out of the crowd.

“Why is he avoiding them, unless he has something to hide? I say that he should give an interview and answer these questions and comments, at least he should defend himself like any real man would do,” one rugged bar patron stated almost in a drunken state.

“Real man, what do you mean real man he has bloody wings!” someone shouted out, “what creature do you know other than birds has wings?”

Standing off from the crowd Thomas just watch in an almost disbelief and disgust before passing to a turbolift heading to a more “sensible” are of the base. As the lift moved through the various decks Thomas closed his eyes and listened to the hum of the station itself before the doors opened and waiting on the other side were three reporters. Straightening his posture Thomas breathed in as one spoke quickly, “Mr. Varn I am James Dotts from the Federation New Service, I was hoping that I could speak with you about Commander Davidson.”

The two other reporters turned and smirked before chuckling silently, “Commander Catwoman is quickly becoming a thing of the past and the good chief’s lover is the thing we want to know about.”

Turning his head to face the two reporters that were obviously from Fedcom Thomas slightly flared his nostrils, “you must be with Fedcom, and I have no comment for either service. Now if you will excuse me.”

As Thomas walked past the group the two Fedcom reporters turned to one another before shouting out, “So you don’t deny that the person in the brig is your lover?!”

Not saying a word Thomas continued down the corridor before turning a corner disappearing.

  Time Index: One Hour Later

As the Fedcom symbol appeared once again with the normal pomp and circumstance everyone that was stil interested in the broadcast gathered around the screen, “attention all who cares about your well being. We have new proof that the Chief of Science another member of the senior staff has the dreaded Dominion War Syndrome. In a recent encounter with two of our reporters Chief Varn was heard stating this.”

Turning to a picture of Thomas that was in his personal recorded the edited audio clip of the short encounter was played.

[[So you don’t deny the person in the brig is your lover?!]]

  [[No]]

“There you have it ladies and gentlemen the truth that you’ve been looking for,” the female reporter stated with a devilish grin.

  Scene: Command Deck

“Commander we are being hailed, it’s the Aspen,” an operations officer stated looking up from his station, “they are one of four medical vessels with the thirteenth fleet. They are carrying refugees and Commander they have wounded.”

Eshinala looked up from a padd that she was readying before nodding, “open up available docking bays and inform sickbay to expect wounded.”
