"....*Sigh*....."

(Continued from Ran's "Story of Mirror Ana and Mirror Kate" )

Pacing around Ops, Daisy was envious of people like Lieutenant Trella Palandora
and Dr. Grace Poe because they got to be up in their elbows among the people and supervising the evacuation from the sickbay of Anaqueen's ship to the larger medical facilities of GATEWAY. Sometimes, it was tedious being in command....almost
boring, even....waiting for updates on the investigation and analysis of the debris
and the taking of statements from the survivors.

The Gateway Complex's very impressive main operations hub was circular in
shape, in two levels, and dominated by an island in its centre. This 'command
pit' in the centre, set three steps down from the rest of the hub, contains
monitors for the Engineering, Science, Tactical, and Operations departments
and Daisy knew exactly how many steps it took to move from one to the other,
and then, the other. Thoughts of her last attempt at a conversation with her
teenage son, LJ only darkened her mood and kept her pacing.

She reminded herself that people needed time to get their jobs done and
nothing would be accomplished by pestering them as she moved along to
the upper tier, occasionally running her fingers along a further
eight consoles, mainly Operations backups.

The upper tier houses a further eight consoles, mainly Operations
backups. Doors lead off the upper tier into her ready room, the Conference
Room, the Kate MacNeil's office, and two turbolifts. Adornment is kept at a
minimum here - no carpets, just deck plating. There is no main viewer here
   - instead, a 3-D holographic display is set into the floor in the centre of the
  island, projecting upwards.

Always aware of what a prankster she had in LJ, Daisy took it upon
herself to encrypt the controls of that 3-D holographic display twice a day.
Her teenage son had a disturbing gift for hacking into various systems on
the station and she half-expected that he'd jump at the chance to adjust
the massive display to something horribly embarrassing for no other reason
than to see if he could.

Daisy rarely spoke of her life before Starfleet - however, her family had one
saying that adopting LJ frequently reminded her of. "It takes a village to raise
a child". Much as she wanted to believe she could be "enough" for that
boy as a single mother - she knew she would need the help of all the members
of the GATEWAY crew if she hoped to make sure her gifted but troubled
adopted son grew up to use his considerable talents for good rather than evil.

Desperate for a distraction from her own thoughts, she finally tapped her
   comm badge.

  "Davidson to Poe, report."

{{ "Commander?" }} Dr. Poe sounded confused.

"Do you need another pair of hands down there?" Daisy offered
hopefully, wanting to get out of Ops.

{{ Palendora to Davidson" }} Trella interrupted.

Almost in unison came a similiar hail from Eishnala,
   {{ " Kor to Davidson"  }}

Daisy's face fell with disappointment and she nearly
  whined, "Yes, ladies?"

{{ "Everything is under control, Commander" }} Dr. Poe
  replied calmly.

Then, came Lt. Palendora's voice, sounding annoyed,
{{ "Commander, I believe we've discussed security protocals regarding
your safety when dealing with all the variables involved with moving
a group of casualties of this size..." }}

Daisy hung her head and sighed like a little kid who wanted to go
out to play and was being kept in the house. "Right, of course. Thank
   you, Lieutenant"

Eishnala piped in, {{ "I do hope you'll listen to our chief of Security,
  Commander.  I'd hate to have to put you on report." }}

  Jasmina and Katrina - TAG!

Everyone else - I apologize for this being so short but my husband is sick with bronchitis and I'm exhausted myself. I hope to post again in a couple of days.

Peter - I enjoyed seeing you on MSN. I liked your ideas for your alternative Drake.

Ran - your post was lovely and I hope to do a follow up with Captain Byrne and the other Anaqueen in my next post. :) Oh, where's our Kate? Didn't you say she'd be missing sickbay, too? :) Tag!

  Justin - TAG!!! :P

Ken - a question. How does Geen look compared to Gene? Does he wear his hair different or maybe have battle scars? The Commendation crew wouldn't know Gene - but on GATEWAY - would they spot him right away? I know Geen's teeth are filed down to fangs - but what about his hair and his body? From the sounds of him - he's led such a dramatically different life - I would magine he would look far different than the more clean-cut and upstanding Gene McInnis I remember.

Anyway - I have to try and sleep. Again, everyone - sorry this post is so short but I wanted to put something out for you all. Hugs,
  Kim
