“Capture or Escape?”
(contd from Jamie’s ‘Strange Faces’)

Location: GS-2
SD: 2.80608.2107
Scene: Operations

There were two women in the room, who didn’t really want to be there. Lt. Cmdr. Kathryn MacNeil and Captain Anaqueen Spankryz had different reasons for feeling displeased at Daisy summoning them to Ops. Kate yearned to be down in sickbay, working side by side with Grace, doing the one thing she loved, which was medicine. Her suspension was over and the half-Nuimon hoped to return to the medical department as soon as possible. Waiting in Ops was not something the Scottish woman found to be enticing. She envied her CO, who was currently in stellar cartography doing something more interesting.

Anaqueen, on the other hand, was mildly annoyed to be forced to leave her post on the COMMENDATION, considering she had a lot of work in terms of commanding the century class vessel. She didn’t mind the waiting. She was used to it, having been on the bridge as CO for close to five years. The Trill grumbled to herself over why Daisy didn’t feel it was enough to just have MacNeil monitor the situation from Ops. After all, it was in the half-Nuimon’s job description.

“Commander,” Lieutenant Savitri Ganesh announced. The assistant operations officer, a new arrival at the GATEWAY, had barely few minutes with her boss, Kate before the incident in the promenade caused by Lord Ihcalam happened. “Sensors are picking up an unknown vessel floating near the Recreation module.”

Kate ordered, standing behind the Indian woman. “Can we get a visual?”

“Yes ma’am,” Ganesh complied, dancing her fingers quickly and gracefully on the console. Within a few seconds, the screen reverted from a bunch of data to the pirate vessel. All the fighters out there had turned their attention to the SHIV, waiting for the command to strike.

MacNeil questioned, opening a channel to the lead fighter. “Lt. Stephens, has a ship suddenly appeared on your sensors?”

[[Yes Commander,]] Cochrane confirmed, before asking. [[What are your orders?]]

Pondering for a second, the Scot glanced at Anaqueen, who immediately contacted stellar cartography. "Very nice, Commander Davidson.  I think you can return to Ops now.  I do have a ship of my own to command."

[[Yes, of course...I'll be there, soon....]] came the vague reply from the blonde CO.

Kathryn instructed the FSC. “Lt. Stephens, Standby until further orders.”

[[Acknowledged. Stephens out.]]

Anaqueen was shaking her head in frustration at the disinterest reverberated by Commander Davidson. Daisy’s place was in Ops, not down somewhere in stellar cartography. She had already called security to escort Daisy back to Ops and would wait till the other woman arrived. Ana was tempted to lecture her friend on leaving one’s proper post and taking over a subordinate’s job. The Trill tapped her comm. badge. “Spankryz to the COMMENDATION.”

[[Daiuon here,]] the Betazoid Operations officer spoke.

Spankryz informed, folding her arms. “Commander, I will be returning back to the ship as soon as Commander Davidson arrives here at Operations.”

[[Understood, Captain,]] Lena acknowledged before adding calmly. [[Lt. Cmdr. Haley reminds you that a security escort should accompany you back to the ship.]] She could hear her CO sigh with mild irritation. Matthew Haley was not just the COMMENDATION’s chief of security, he was the Trill Captain’s husband, a fact that played a huge part in the half-El Aurian’s concern for his CO’s safety.

Ana merely nodded. “Thank you for relaying that to me and assure Cmdr. Haley I will return safely.”

[[Aye Captain. COMMENDATION out.]] The ending of the communiqué coincided with the arrival of Commander Davidson, her face expression filled with slight boredom and disappointment at having to return to Ops.  She nodded with acknowledgement at Ana’s presence.

Daisy informed quietly. “You can go back to your ship, Captain.”

“Understood,” the Trill nodded as she headed towards the main doors.

Davidson addressed the security officer who escorted her from the stellar cartography. “Crewman, please escort Captain Spankryz back to her ship.” Grinning at her long-time friend, the blonde quipped. “Cmdr. Haley would kill me if you didn’t get there in one piece.” Anaqueen sighed, rolling her eyes as she left the room.

Kate cleared her throat in order to get her superior’s attention, which she did. “Report, Commander,” Daisy ordered.

The half-Nuimon explained quickly. “Lt. Stephens and his fighters are awaiting orders as to what to do with the unknown vessel.”

“Commanders,” Savitri alerted, before Davidson opened her mouth. “Unknown vessel is powering up its engines. They know we found them and are going to get away.”

Daisy ran down the stairs, announcing loudly. “We must not let them escape.” She clenched her teeth, wondering about the reason behind the SHIV hiding from sensors and the purpose of its presence near the station. “Lt. Stephens,” the blonde barked as she stopped beside MacNeil. “Go after the ship and do everything you can to stop it from leaving the area.”

[[Yes ma’am,]] Cochrane complied as he readied his fighters to strike the SHIV.

Davidson inquired, addressing the aOps. “Is the ship in range for a tractor beam?”

Savitri nodded. “Yes Commander.”

“Well,” Daisy stated, inclining her head towards Kate. “Looks like escape is impossible for them.”

Ensign Ezri Braxx informed. “Commander, the ship’s sending out their own fighters heading in Lt. Stephen and his squadron’s direction.”

“Lt. Stephens?” Daisy questioned her FSC.

[[We’re onto them,]] Cochrane informed.

Daisy commanded, addressing the aOps. “Lt. Ganesh, hail the unknown vessel.”

Location: SHIV
Scene: Mess hall
TI: Before the SHIV was located

Anaqueen sat in solemn silence, absentmindedly sipping her soup. The unjoined Trill didn’t care for the taste of the steaming purple liquid, the colour of her homeworld’s oceans. Her thoughts were on TRILL and felt a longing to go home tugged at the young woman. A deep anger towards the ruling symbionts brewed inside, then again one wondered if the hatred would ever go away. Hatred for all symbionts as far as Ana was concerned would never subside until each and every one of those vermiforms was dead.

But something else was bothering her. ‘Captain Spankryz’ was what that reality’s Thomas Varn called her. Spankryz was the name of the symbiont that chose her as host but who was angered over Ana’s rejection. Since that fatal day over a decade ago, the aristocrat, Lord Spankryz swore vengeance over Anaqueen and became obsessed with the desire to kill her. The murder of Lord Pentaur only made the obsession worse and brought along the wrath from another aristocrat, Lord Nilanti, who was closely aligned with the dead symbiont. In fact Spankryz and Nilanti were once fierce rivals, who put aside their hostilities after Pentaur’s murder and joined forces to hunt down Anaqueen.

Eishnala Kor took a seat opposite the Trill, her eyes filled with intense anger over the brutal treatment of her lover, Thomas Varn, who was badly burnt and sent to the GATEWAY. The two women nodded at each other but neither was in the mood to have a conversation. The Andorian was having the same soup as her fellow crewmember. Then again, everyone except Captain Byrne was forced to eat the same meal that P’Trella prepared on that day.

A Nausicaan dropped himself on a chair two rows away from Kor with a thud that nearly shook the table, causing some of the soup to spill out of the Andorian’s bowl. Eishnala glared at the annoying new arrival of which the Nausicaan responded in kind. Kor turned her head away, not in the mood for fighting and concentrated on her meal, recalling her gladiator days where she handily defeated Nausicaan opponents. But her neighbor to the blue woman’s dismay banged the table and then shoved the bowl away from the table. The bowl broke upon impact with the floor and the hot liquid spilled all over the grey surface.

“I want some meat! Where’s meat?” The Nausicaan bellowed. Two Andorian brothers crept up behind the big creature and whispered harshly in his ear.

The elder of the two, Arjan scolded. “Jobilo, don’t make a scene.” The Jos siblings kept some distance from Kor but their eyes shot daggers behind the Andorian woman’s back. Arjan adjusted his sunglasses as he continued to chide the Nausicaan.

“But I want meat,” Jobilo complained loudly. Eishnala sighed exasperatedly and got up from her seat. Grabbing the bowl of soup, the blue woman moved to another table. Aerdan immediately sat down next to the Nausicaan wishing Cade hadn’t brought him with them on the trip. But it was because of the blonde’s taste for the exotic like Jobilo that enabled the rag-tag group to last on the SHIV. The Andorian with only one antenna groaned in frustration, spotting P’Trella marching in their direction.

Aerdan grumbled, his face scrunched up in disgust. “That’s just great, Jobilo. Your idiocy has brought the cook’s attention to us and you do have a scheduled appointment to entertain that she-thing.”

Jobilo moaned. “Meat. Raw, juicy meat.”

Arjan decided. “Well, we’re out of here.” Motioning to his younger brother, the two space pirates slid away at the approach of the Orion/Vissian hybrid. Anaqueen, having finished her meal, stood up and quickly left the area.

Scene: Medical Lab

Kate MacNeil stared intently at the glass jar held in her hand. The Nuimon hybrid chuckled with amusement at the sight of a single, blue antenna of Andorian origin floating within light blue, bubbly liquid in the jar. She experimented on plenty of Andorians subjects but decided to keep an antenna for further research. The Scot could not recall the identity of the Andorian, the antenna in the jar belonged to. Glancing at Thomas Varn, who was glaring at her and looking at the jar in disgust.

The physician began, stroking the jar. “You know I always wondered how you would look with antennae protruding from your head.”

“Don’t you dare,” Thomas growled a warning, his voice lowered to a raspy whisper.

[[Doctor MacNeil,]] Byrne’s voice bellowed through the comm. systems. [[How is our pet birdy boy doing?]]

MacNeil replied calmly, placing the jar back on the table. “He’s putting up quite a resistance, Captain Byrne.” By then the GATEWAY CSciO had realized the woman in the room was not the ‘Kate MacNeil’, he served with. Varn had to find out what was going on and where he was. Some cackling was heard from the other side of the channel before Byrne ordered.

[[Use my favorite method on him,]] Byrne ordered and then added snidely. [[It should make him talk, after all the method always works.]]
