“Departure”
(contd from Shawn’s ‘Back to Work’)

Location: USS COMMENDATION
SD: 2.80622.1527
Scene: Bridge

Anaqueen Spankryz glanced behind her when the doors slid open to allow the tall form of the GATEWAY CO in the room. Daisy moved past the tactical console, where Ana’s husband, Lt. Cmdr. Matthew Haley stood and took the empty seat next to the Trill. Davidson looked around the room and inquired, noticing someone was missing. “Where’s your ExO?”

“Commander G’blok has been called away on a personal matter,” her friend replied calmly, turning her attention immediately to Ops, where Commander Lena Daiuon sat. “Commander, request clearance from the GATEWAY for departure.”

“Aye Captain,” the Betazoid woman complied as she contacted the station. “This is the USS COMMENDATION requesting permission to disembark.”

[[GATEWAY here. Permission granted,]] came the voice of Lt. Ganesh, the station’s aOps.

Lt. JG Stramere, the ship’s CSciO informed. “I have the sensor data the GATEWAY science department obtained from the renegade vessel’s ion trail.”

Daisy questioned, peering curiously at the Benzite man. “In which direction did that ship go?”

The science officer studied the information on his screen and replied, pulling up a map of the Gamma Quadrant. “Commander, the trail leads us in the direction of the Lantar Nebula, so we estimate the vessel could have jumped to that area.”

“Is that good or bad?” Davidson questioned concern shown in her eyes and could hear the Trill sighing out of frustration. “So it’s not too good,” the blonde surmised, judging from the younger CO’s reaction to the news.

“We don’t really know the situation until after we get there.” Matthew stated. “But the area around the Lantar nebula has been rife with heavy Dominion activity, so it’s not exactly a pleasure trip.”

Captain Spankryz thought with trepidation. **Lets just hope we don’t land in the middle of a war zone or next door to a vast Dominion fleet. ** She then addressed the Ocampan officer at the conn. “Helm, set course for the nebula.”

Ensign Talbo complied. “Yes ma’am.” The century class cruiser’s engines went on line as the docking clamps released the ship. The COMMENDATION began to slowly move away from the station.

Lt. Evelyn Williams brought up. “The USS MATACO is currently in the vicinity of the Lantar nebula on a particular operation.”

“Once we reach the nebula, we will alert them of the vessel’s presence if it is there,” Spankryz decided, glancing at the SOO. The USS MATACO was the 13th fleet’s flagship, commanded by Commodore Necarra. The COMMENDATION and CHANTICO crews were unaware the flagship’s saucer section only remained from the skirmish it had with the Dominion vessels.

The Trill woman questioned. “Status of the CHANTICO?”

“CHANTICO is waiting for our signal to jump to warp,” Daiuon replied.

“Noted.” Anaqueen proceeded to order helm to jump to warp and then commanded her Ops officer to signal the CHANTICO to do the same. In the next minute, the battle cruiser and the escort destroyer had together embarked on a journey following the warp trail that would carry them to the Lantar Nebula, which was close to Dominion territory.

Daisy Davidson thought of her crew traveling in the raptor class starship and wondered about how they were doing. Her mind then lingered to the alternate Daisy and pondered over what she was going to do if the two met face to face. This was not going to be a very easy mission as there were so many things that could go wrong.

Location: SHIV
Scene: Bridge

Captain Daisy Byrne paced the room, muttering under her breath over the two Dominion ships lingering outside the nebula. The blonde CO was displeased over having her plans regarding gathering information on the GATEWAY spoiled by the detection of the SHIV by station sensors. Someone was going to be in trouble for the mess up. She was sure of that. The poor soul would be so unlucky as to endure her wrath. “Are those ships still out there?” She questioned harshly, hovering over the officer at the tactical console.

The subordinate gulped, his hands clearly shaking. “Yes Captain.” His answer received a slap across the face. It was not his fault. He was just reporting what he saw, but the blonde had to vent her frustration at someone. Unfortunately he was the unlucky one to put up with the Captain’s temper, which was getting worse by the minute.

Daisy yelled, raising her hand to possibly hit him again. “Well the next time I demand a status report, you better answer those ships have left.” She then warned, grabbing him by the collar. “Otherwise I will throw you out of the airlock. Do you understand?”

“Yes…ma’am,” the crewman stammered his reply, not wanting to face those angry brown eyes boring into him. He turned his attention back to the console, while Daisy headed towards another station, where Anaqueen sat and grabbed the Trill’s wrist and held it for a while.

“This is getting boring,” Daisy drawled, pretending to yawn. “Honestly, the Terrans in this galaxy are too weak to let a Utopian race like the Dominion to still skulk around and be powerful.” Thomas Varn was still on a rampage and security was having a hard time containing the GATEWAY’s CSciO. The last Daisy heard, Eishnala has yet to intercept their captive.

Ana suggested slowly, not wanting to pour oil into the Captain’s ire. “Perhaps the Dominion in this reality is not Utopian.” The brunette half expected the blonde to smack her the way she did that tactical crewman. But instead of getting angry, Daisy produced a creepy smile at her.

“Well I for one want them gone so we can escape,” Byrne declared, letting go of the Trill’s hand.

Location: SHIV
Scene: Medical Bay

The door swung open and for a minute, no one entered. Then a Terran man with stocky build and shaven head crept inside the room. He halted for a moment, moving his eyes around the room to make sure no one was around. The man, one of the engineers, knew the doctor would be in her quarters at the moment, which was adjoined to the medical bay. His eyes stopped on the sleeping, white furry creature on the floor behind the biobed and mouth watered at the sight of the animal.

Frustrations ran rampant amongst his fellow crewmembers over the lack of meat in their daily meals. He was starving for some fresh meat to cook and the doctor’s lab was filled with plenty of protein sources. The only stock of meat left in the kitchen was restricted to the Captain and the physician’s pet, which the man felt was totally unfair. Clutching the net in his hairy hands, the engineer produced a toothy grin and edged closer to William Wallace. He began dreaming of juicy steak on his table, when something painfully snapped him back to reality.

The man felt intense pain burning throughout his body and realized a whip rope illuminated with blue light tied around his left wrist. He fell to the floor and lay there in shock and winced. He could hear footsteps approaching his position and began sweating profusely out of fear.

Physician Kate MacNeil strolled casually around the struggling engineer displaying a calm demeanor. She was holding a ‘nerve whip’ in her hand, a device of Nuimon origin used for torture and other unethical purposes, depending on the tastes of the individuals.

The half-Nuimon began coldly. “The nerve whip has nodes embedded within its material, which sends out a signal through your skin aimed at the nervous system.” The man gritted his teeth and began shaking.

“I am just hungry…for meat,” the engineer rasped, hoping the convulsions would stop, but the sight of the doctor’s long finger pressing on a button dashed his hopes. The rope tightened around the man’s wrist even further.

Kate continued, her voice still cold and calm. “I always felt P’Trella’s meals were filling and quite nourishing. I could never understand the need for meat.” The one attribute shared by both Kate MacNeils was that they were vegetarian. Pausing for a moment, she glanced at William Wallace who just woke up and gave out a low growl towards the intruder. “You should have known better to try stealing my precious baby.”

“That animal…makes…tasty…meat.” The man yelped in anguish as Kate revved up the frequency of the signal.

“The signal hyper stimulates your nerves,” MacNeil explained coolly. “In fact, I have been thinking of testing the new setting and you just volunteered yourself to be my new subject.” The look of horror in the man’s eyes didn’t bring out one ounce of sympathy from the Scottish woman.

NRPG: This may not be my best work but I hope the post will at least get the story moving along and you all don’t have to wait before posting. We have departed according to the commendation’s point of view (the scene was originally part of the JP Taylor, Justin and I were working on). The other two scenes on the SHIV were just something I wrote on an evening I was bored and wondered at the time if I was going to post them or not.
