"I can't believe you shot me."  the Ornaran boy whined at Daisy.

Helping her son unpack,  Daisy rolled her eyes.

"You were using your electricity in anger and burning your
brother.  Of *course* I shot you."

"I didn't hurt him that badly."  Gavi scoffed.  "And I need an
advantage.  He's bigger than me.  How else can I make it a
fair fight?"

"It doesn't have to be a 'fight', " Daisy reminded him.  "I
know it's strange to have LJ talking normally but still, talking
was all he was doing and you went straight to your voltage
simply because you didn't like what he was saying."

"He was embarrassing me and I had to defend myself!"
Gavi moaned.  "YOU certainly weren't defending me."

Daisy paused and blinked, surprised by the hurt in Gavi's
eyes.  Then, she admitted,  "You're right.  I didn't.  I'm
sorry about that.  I was in shock myself to have him
talking but I should have scolded him for insulting you."

Gavi looked somewhat satisfied by that admission and even
gave her a rather puffed up  "Thank you."

"Even so,"  Daisy chided him.  "You only burn or electricute
people when you are truly in physical danger.  That's the rule.
LJ may have been insulting you and having a few laughs at your
expense - but he'd never actually hurt you.  You know that."

The barely 13 year old snorted.  "What about when he locked
me out of our quarters in my underwear?"

Daisy rolled her eyes.  "All that 'hurt' was your pride.  You don't
get to use potentially dangerous bioelectricity just because your
pride is wounded, Gavirosh.  As nasty as LJ's remarks were,
you could have lost control and seriously injured him.  What if
you'd caused a cardiac event?"

"I practiced how to fix that on the holodeck."  Gavi beamed.
"In simulations,  I've done very well at using my hands to
defibrillate..."

"Which is wonderful incase of emergency...."  Daisy interrupted,
waving her finger at him.  "But it doesn't change the rules."

"I know, I know."  Gavi sighed.  Then, he gave her a little smirk.
"Are you done lecturing me yet?"

Daisy narrowed her eyes as if annoyed - but gave him a gentle
laugh,  "Oh, you're just a funny guy today, aren't you?"

The boy teased,  "Certainly funnier than you."

Daisy laughed.  "Finish unpacking, smartass.  I'm going to go
check on Cade and your brother."

The few burns Gavi had given him were easily treated by Cade
with a dermal regenerator.

Out the window,  Cade and LJ could see the Stephens children
playing with their father.   The estate had a large front yard
with a view of the green ocean further down the hill.  The
Bajoran monks had returned to the temple and Cochrane
was tossing a ball with the twins.

As Daisy came down the stairs,  hearing LJ conversing with
Cade still left her dumbfounded.  All she could do was watch
them.   He and Cade suddenly had this fabulous new
chemistry - both of them having above average inteligence
and both sharing an obnoxious sense of humor.  They were
rapidly forming a  little "mutual admiration society" of two
before  the boy pulled his  three headed puppy out of the pet
carrier and announced,   " I've decided his name is Fiendfyre."
Then, he looked up and saw his adoptive Mother coming towards
him.  Daisy quickly flashed him a smile.   "Hi."

LJ gave her a little smile and watched her sit next to Cade.
The boy liked Foster - even more so now that they were talking
like this.  Daisy looked tired.  She hadn't slept since learning
what had been done to LJ.   Cade held out his arm and Daisy
easily fit against his shoulder and exhaled deeply, grateful the
older man was there.

With Fiendfyre nibbling at his fingers,  LJ asked her,   "Ya
still scared for me, mum?"

"I think I'm a little scared for all of us right now, honey."  Daisy
admitted flatly.

LJ frowned.  "So, then we all gotta start  praying to the Bajoran
Prophets now? "

"I didn't bring you here to convert you to the BAJORAN religion."  she
promised him.  "I brought you here because it's a private, secure and
beautiful place to rest and relax without worrying about reporters
bothering us."

The boy nodded approvingly,  "Ok, but don't be scared, Mum."

Daisy sat up and moved closer to LJ, looking at him thoughtfully.

"Do you remember what happened in sickbay?  With Colonel Williams
and Lt. Commander MacNeil?"

"I heard you guys in the corridor and I saw the broadcast like
everyone else...."  LJ shrugged as Fiendfyre sniffed his legs and
started gnawing on his denim pants.

"Daddy watch"  Leah called from the top of what could
only be described as a Bajoran Jungle gym.

"OK, let's see."  he called carefully masking concern with excitement.  He
watched with tensed muscles ready to catch her if she fell.  Carefully she
grabbed the bar that was lower than where she was standing, swung
down, and let go right before her feet swung over the top of the bar.  She
did a back flip, and landed with a thud on her heels, immedinately sitting
down from the momentum.  Before he could react her face was filled
with a smile of pride.

"See, Daddy. I almost landed!!"

"That was great, baby but don't do that when no one is
here to catch you, ok?"

"But I can do it myself"

"I know but the bar may be old and break.  Just do as I say.  I trust
you but I don't want you to get hurt, ok?"

"Ok"  she replied reluctantly - in that way six year olds have of
complying but making you feel like you just stole their puppy.

Checking his watch, Cochrane rounded up the kids and they
headed inside to meet Daisy and her family for the next outing.
He felt awkward walking into the livingroom and noticing that
Daisy was once again emotional.

LJ looked worried and was saying,  "Don't cry, mum.  I'm ok."

Cochrane stammered,  "Oh, I'm sorry.  I didn't mean
to interrupt."

Cade sniggered,  "No worries.  She's just got her
Mommy hormones in an uproar again."

Daisy laughed through her tears and rolled her eyes.

"Cade, you're an ass."

Foster smirked,  "Yeah.  So?  You're point?"

They made their way down the path as a group.   Gavi and
the twins had the shortest legs and fell behind.   Cochrane
was within ear shot as  LJ sauntered back to check on his
younger, adopted brother.

"I know a secret." the older boy bragged.

"What song is that from?"  Gavi sighed, rolling his eyes.
The younger boy's ego had taken a bit of a beating now
that LJ was able to talk more freely and tease him even
more sadistically.

"I know the real reason Mum was so mad at Colonel
Williams and Commander MacNeil about the P'Narran
healing magic..."

Gavi groaned, trying to avoid looking at LJ's obnoxious
purple speedo.  "It's not really magic"  Gavi stubbornly
corrected him,  " just energy and everyone knows why
she was mad.  She was mad because they didn't
ask her and she was worried about you."

LJ sniggered. "It's more than that.  She wasn't just
'worried'." LJ boasted. "  She was jealous.
She loves me so much that she was jealous she didn't
get to be there to hold my hand and jealous Williams
could help me in a way that she couldn't. "

Gavi groaned.  "Whatever"

The Ornarian boy had his own difficulties with LJ's
sudden language improvements.  Before, when LJ
could only talk in lyrics - Gavi felt like the older boy
'needed him'.  He liked the feeling of  "watching out"
for his big brother when LJ had trouble communicating.

Now, LJ seemed to be communicating just fine.  Not
only did he "not need" his little brother's help - but now
his little brother was always feeling like the "butt" of all
of LJ's jokes.

Gavi briefly made eye contact with Cochrane and
quickly looked away.  Behind his back, the boy's hand
glowed with a bit of electricity.  Gavi bit his lip and then
surpressed it.

LJ sniggered teasingly,  "You know I'm her favorite,
right?  She adores me. "

Gavi groaned again and then the twins looked up at
their Daddy questioningly.    Cochrane sighed,  "LJ,
I think that's enough."

The sound of Cochrane talking to her son got Daisy's
attention.  Wearing a modest, one-piece swimsuit
with a little comm badge clipped to the left shoulder
strap,  she paused and put one hand on her hip.

"What's going on?"

LJ smirked.   "Some people have no sense of humor."

Gavi looked hurt but tried to cover it with a half-hearted
smile.  "Nothin', Mom.  I'll race you to the water...."

Daisy blinked.  "What?"

Gavi raced on ahead as fast as his young legs would carry
him.  LJ started to follow  - only to stop in his tracks the
moment he saw the tall, blonde and astonishingly
handsome young "Lifeguard" named Tobin Sven standing
outside the water safety station.

Daisy ran after Gavi.  Cochrane stayed with his kids
and Cade busted out laughing as he watched LJ heading
towards Sven with a sort of "Oh, aren't *YOU* interesting?!"
swagger.
