“Familiarity.” (contd-“Reunions”)

Location: GS2
Scene: Intelligence Meeting room
Stardate: [2.8]0821.1503

Secrets like these could cause quite a commotion when they were learnt especially given recent events and more importantly who had initially been involved.

Keeping something like hidden was also a near impossible task, luckily those involved were very skilled at staying unseen.

That was why the assembly of 8 identical individuals went entirely unnoticed, not even station command knew there were that many copies of Lt Cmdr Drake on the station at the time.

Six of them wore plain black outfits, not a uniform as such but never the less commonly used gear for the work they were likely to be found in, each of them was in some vague sense different to the other but whether anyone but themselves would notice was another matter. The other two wore identical Starfleet Uniforms with the traditional black of Intelligence betraying their function on the station.

Seven of them were debating something.

“I can’t believe it’s happened.”

“What is going to happen now?”

“Are they sending anyone?”

“Who is going.”

“What are they doing?”

“Tell me they aren’t still discussing it?”

The final Drake, one of those in uniform, leaned forwards in to the circle of chairs and the others fell silent.

“Our pull in the higher circles is a little lessened since Teneill’s departure but no they have made a decision.”

“And what is it?” Chorused the others.

“Radical destabilisation.”

That started all the others talking again for a few moments until it was clear that the Drake who had the information was not going to talk over them and they quietened.

“A small task force is being sent in with a support force being kept nearby, there are several options open to them but it seems radical destabilisation is the most likely to succeed at this point.”

“The most important question I think, for all of us, is who are they sending? Are we going?”

“Because of our nature, and the fact that the existence of you all is not known in the wider intelligence community, Command has decided that one of us will be going.”

Each of them asked who is one variation or another, each of them wanting to go themselves.

“I am.” Replied the original, none clone, Drake.

There was silence.

“I will be leaving to join the taskforce, Drake will take over my duties on GATEWAY, and the rest of you will be receiving your next assignment within days.”

None of the others looked thrilled but they would follow the instructions Drake knew, and now that their group was leaving the room he and the Drake that would maintain a presence here on the station had to talk.

Scene: Docking area

While not exactly a mass exodus the departure of several vessels back through the wormhole meant that the docking area was busy with clusters of people filtering through the connection tubes to their vessels. No one took any notice of just another junior officer from engineering as they crossed the walkways.

Looking very little like his usual self Drake mingled with the others as they walked, his trip wouldn’t take long before he transferred to another station and then made his way to his rendezvous.

Scene: intelligence office
Another Drake, looking as he usually did, received a communication and quickly checked the security footage from the docks, it was too late, he was gone.

Location: Starbase 9
Scene: Lara’s quarters.

Lara looked up from the box of stuff she was unpacking when the door chime sounded.

“Come in.” She called.

When the doors opened to show her caller her heart seemed to leap in to her throat, an anticipation built quickly inside her as conflicting emotions of joy, anger, passion and annoyance welled up.

She jumped up from the floor quickly and approached, but something made her stop and look at him, the emotions fading to be replaced by overriding disappointment and sorrow.

“You’re not him.”

Drake nodded and Lara wasn’t sure if he looked surprised, impressed or disappointed.

“Impressive that you can tell.”

Lara moved closer to him, “There’s just something off, I think it’s the eyes.” She said, her hand strayed towards his face.

“I’m sorry.” He said, chocking himself on the words, for all intents and purposes until a short time ago he had been Drake, he shared those memories, but as with all the others, he knew he was a clone, it was for him and the others to be separated from the person they loved because of something the Dominion had done, and it pulled at his heart to see her so close and to know that nothing could again happen between them.

“Has something happened?” She asked worried.

“He has been called for a mission Magpie.” He replied wince as he realised he had used her pet name.

She nodded, she wasn’t happy but they had already been separated for so long, what was a little longer?

NRPG:

WOW look I posted !

Yes very character centric LOL, and Drake has gone off because I have an idea for a Novella which may or may not come to light, but as there are clones its not an issue, just be aware that there will only be the one Drake available for what ever happens next !
