"We Interrupt This Battle For An Announcement"
<continued from Justin's "Battle Royale">

Location: GATEWAY STATION – 2
SD: [2.8] 0914.2310
Scene: Sickbay
Xana was holding Dahlia closely with her right arm, and holding onto Angus'
collar with her left hand, when they got into the Sickbay. Loosening her grip
on Angus, the Bolian/Italian glared at her dog and gave a low order in
Italian to stay put. Convinced the dog wasn't going to go haywire now, Xana
shifted her hold on her wailing 2 ½ year old daughter. "Bambina," she
murmured, "it's ok. Mama's here, it's ok."
Dahlia looked up at her mother, big fat tears rolling out of her hazel eyes
and down her cheeks. "Mama...I wanna..."
"You want to what?" Xana asked as her daughter's words trailed off.
Snuggling into the warmth that her mother offered, Dahlia finished her
thought. "Home."
Home. Where did Dahlia think was home? The child had been moved around more
in her brief existence than some people did in their entire lifetimes. Still
Xana did her best to comfort her daughter. Rocking her back and forth she
said, "Soon, bambina, soon we'll go home."
"NOW!" Dahlia yelled at the top of her lungs. "Now, now, now, now!!!"
"Ah hell," Xana muttered under her breath as she did her best to calm her
exhausted and hungry daughter.
Dahlia finally calmed down, at least she stopped sobbing and screaming,
which was all Xana could ask for at this point. Looking over she saw LJ and
Cade talking with a doctor with Erika and Gavi hanging back but clearly
upset. Xana was going to go over and offer to help out now that Dahlia was
calmer. However as soon as she began to scoot off the biobed that someone
had guided her too she heard a "Don't you move!"
Turning around she saw a large Naussican man coming over their way. "I'm
Chief Nurse Mbuiak," he told Xana. "And we don't want you to move until a
doctor has checked both of you out."
"We're fine," Xana assured the nurse.
Feeling brave Dahlia looked up at the Naussican and gasped. Afraid her
daughter was *this* close to another meltdown (and really Xana's one last
nerve couldn't handle that) she looked down at her daughter and said the
magic words. "He's gonna get us food."
Dahlia looked over at her mother and then back at the Naussican. "I wanna
cookie," she demanded.
"I want the Dominion to leave, kiddo," the nurse muttered as he scanned
them.
"Cookie," Dahlia gritted out, not caring about Dominion or anything else.
Seeing where this was going Xana just closed her eyes and muttered again,
"Ah hell."
"Ah hell," Dahlia repeated. "Wanna cookie."
"Good job teaching your daughter how to curse," the nurse muttered. "I've
gone from being head nurse to having to babysit you two and the other crazy
kids."
**Oh no you didn't,** Xana thought to herself. Easing Dahlia down to her
hip, Xana slid off the bed and glared at the Naussican. "You listen to me,"
she warned. "Your CO is going into surgery, her family is understandably
upset considering how we got here and what's gong on now, as are my daughter
and I. Now, I'm not asking for fracking room service, and I know you're
stressed out, but a little empathy, or at the least the refraining from
editorial comments, wouldn't kill you."
The nurse glared at Xana before turning off to leave. Over his shoulder he
yelled out, "Stay where you are."
"Frack me," Xana sighed as she leaned against the biobed.
"Frack me," Dahlia repeated.
"Frack me," Erika sighed as appeared suddenly out of seemingly nowhere to
lean against Xana. She might not have been her mother but the woman was
comfy. Xana was going to say something to Erika about saying that but the
little girl looked so angelic that the Bolian/Human couldn't raise an
objection.
"Frack me,"Gavi murmured. When Xana gave the young boy a look he pointed
out with a defensive shrug, "You let them say it."
"The booger is right. You did," LJ sighed as he too sat on the biobed
waiting for Daisy. "And frack me."
Xana waved her hands to send Cade off as she looked over the 4 kids.
"Oh...well...for the love of all that's holy....don't tell your mother I let
you all say that," she trailed off exhaustedly.

Scene: Promenade – FedCom's offices
Zoie Aners looked over at the Starfleet person across from her. They were
in her office, and said person had come up through the Jeffries Tubes to
avoid Security and being seen. Now she was weighing what he said to her with
what she should do. "How do I know this is good info?"
The man held out his hands in a "Would I lie to you" pose. "What have you
got to lose?"
"My credibility," Zoie snapped.
The man nodded and pointed to the PADD. "I even brought you evidence."
Ignoring the PADD the FedCom reporter leaned in. "Why are you bringing this
to me? I thought Starfleet didn't like going outside the organization with
complaints."
"Station is going to hell in the proverbial hand-basket. CO is in the
Sickbay, the XO is running things and we're all gonna die, CEO is probably
gonna die, the 2nd officer is...hell I don't know where he is," the officer
said. Shaking his head the Starfleet person said, "I'm just tired of this
shit. I want something to change. No I take that back – I want something to
change for the better for once."
Getting up he said, "Look, move on this, don't move on this, I don't care.
But now I've done everything I can do. They didn't want to listen me in the
Pit, maybe now they'll listen to you."
Zoie watched the mustard shirt leave her office via the Jeffries Tubes. A
mustard shirt bringing her info about his own organization; who didn't bring
the info to that show up Cynthia (Zoie really couldn't stand Cynthia but the
bosses loved her because of the ratings). Instead this turncoat...no wait
concerned Starfleet person...brought the info to her. Who said Christmas
didn't come early?

Scene: Deputy Chief Counselor's Office
Mowree Nuronyun was digging around his office looking for something. He had
to get back to work – with the red alert, people were getting upset (and
understandably so). Still the big Caitian needed a moment to find his
therapy balls for the school kids who needed a break.
Robert Jeffers, one of the other Counselors, poked his head into the
office. "Mowree, check it out – FedCom is broadcasting breaking news."
The Caitian didn't like the sound of that. "Computer pull up current FedCom
broadcast."
The beautiful Human/Betazoid reporter known as Zoie Aners appeared onscreen
and looked to have just begun her broadcast. {{--and we are interrupting
this emergency identification with breaking news. FedCom has just received
information that there is a Vorta on the station and Starfleet refuses to do
anything about it. This would be shocking in and of itself, especially since
Commanding Officer Davidson suffers from Dominion War Syndrome – a fact she
has yet to confirm -- but we've also learned that Executive Officer Kate
MacNeil is in charge while Davidson is in Sickbay.
{{So why isn't MacNeil taking control of the situation? We have the
Dominion attacking, a Vorta loose in the station, the CO possibly suffering
another lapse of her Dominion War Syndrome, and *nothing is happening*.
Rumors are surfacing that the 2nd officer is nowhere to be found in this
time of crisis and the CEO is incapacitated – perhaps he too is suffering
from Dominion War Syndrome like the CO. Of course there is nothing called
the Dominion War Syndrome according to Starfleet. Starfleet, however, is
very good at denying things,}} Zoie said with an edge. {{After all,
according to them there are no Vorta on the station when one of Starfleet's
own has given FedCom proof that there is.
{{For FedCom this is Zoie Aners, reporting to you from the GATEWAY – a
station in crisis.}}
