Sitting obediently, her leg still immobilized, Daisy quickly shushed Xana's concerns about LJ and began a
lecture about how to get past the counter-intuitive nature of being in the tank and literally having to inhale
the special "goo" they called Neuro-amniotic fluid.
"I have to breathe this crap?"
"Your body inhaled and exhaled fluid before you were born and it will remember it after the initial shock..."
Daisy promised.
"And I'll be right here to help you out of the tank if there are any cardiovascular difficulties during that
initial shock...." Cade promised, waggling his eyebrows.
Xana glared at him and he put his hand over his heart. "Really - I'll keep my eyes closed the whole time."
"Ignore him and trust me." Daisy chided her. "Dr. Poe and I will be scanning both you and Crichton
constantly and adjusting your drug cocktail until we're able to get your electronic field syncronized with
his. The fluid around you will amplify your neuroelectrical output and make it easier for your own stream
of consciousness to make contact with his."
"Right, right..." Xana sighed. "Let's do this."
The half-bolian woman gulped before stepping down into the tank. Her first instinct was to hold her breath
for as long as she could before finally gulping down a few swallows of the tasteless light-blue fluid. She twitched
and sort of convulsed - battling against her instinct to come to the surface and inhale - and forced herself to
inhale the goo.
Her eyes rolled back as the drug cocktail flowed through her body and they began the process of temporarily
altering her consciousness.
Even as her awareness drifted, her body seemed to be protesting it's own nudity. Her arms over her chest and
her knees drew upward into an almost 'fetal' position that minimized her blatantly visable flesh. A slight
adjustment to the gravity plating inside the tank brought her gently to the bottom - where she continued
breathing the neuroamniotic fluid.
The suspence for everyone who had to just sit and watch - wondering what Xana was experiencing as her
level of consciousness and her own neuroelectrical field began dwindling down closer to and finally matching
Jake Crichton's was terrible. Daisy thought of Dahlia and wondered if this would make Xana vulnerable to
the artifacts and if she would just succomb to what was affecting the others and they'd be unable to bring
her back. Then, she thought of Gene and hoped maybe "this" would give Xana some sort of experience
making contact with Gene's spirit - like the one Daisy had when Drake used Borg technology to literally
bring her back from the dead.
Alarms over Crichton's bed distracted Daisy from her constant monitoring of Xana.
"Grace?" Daisy called out - opening a seperate window on her own screen so that she could see the same
readings Dr. Poe was looking at.
"I'm picking up a second signal coming from Crichton." the Orion physician responded. "It's getting
stronger."
"Trace the origin." Daisy barked.
Before Grace could reply, Crichton opened his eyes and whispered Xana's name.
Daisy cursed her stupid, injured leg and kept her eyes focused on Xana's readings but called out to the
Orion once more.
"Grace?!"
Holding a tricorder near Crichton's face, the Orion physician asked him, "Jake? Mr. Crichton? Do you
remember what happened."
The alien sharing Crichton's body smiled and replied, "Crichton is here and he's fine, I promise you."
At that moment, Grace stepped back and tapped her comm badge,
"Security to sickbay."
The alien laughed weakly and assured her, "I have no intention of trying to harm you, child. You have
nothing to fear from me."
Alarms started beeping over other Coma patients and they began opening their eyes as well. The medical
staff began scrambling to run tests on people making basically the same statements when called by name,
"Oh, I'm not "so & so" but don't be afraid, they're here and they're ok."
Security guards came scrambling into sickbay and saw a handful of formerly comatose people on their feet
and hugging each other, weeping with joy and looking around with 'awe' at their surroundings.
Daisy couldn't help stealing a glance from her console and taking in the phenomenon - then she looked back
to Xana and back to her console until the sound of a 'thud' startled her once more.
She gasped when she saw Cade had collapsed and she nolonger gave a damn about keeping her leg safely
immobilized. She scrambled to undo the leg brace and began yelling for someone to help her get Cade
to a biobed.
Two nurses dragged Daisy back to her chair infront of the console dedicated to monitoring Xana while others
carried Cade to one of the now empty biobeds. Then, Comm traffic began coming in from all over the station.
For everyone who woke up appearing to be sharing their body with an alien, two more from all over the
station collapsed.
Deeply shaken to see Cade affected, Daisy sniffled and buried her attention into her work while Security
officers and Dr. Poe's staff began taking statements from the newly awakened about who they were and
their civilization.
Then, finally - her own comm badge beeped.
She tapped her chest. "Yes?"
LJ's voice came through. [[ "Mum?" ]]
"What is it, son?" Daisy asked, a knot forming in her stomach.
[[ "They collapsed. Erika and Gavi - they just dropped to the floor....they're being taken to sickbay. " ]]
"It's going to be ok, son." Daisy promised him breathlessly - her hands already working the straps to the
brace wrapped around her leg. "I have to go."
A nurse began arguing with her that she was supposed to keep her leg immobilized - but Daisy was already
on her feet. She shoved the nurse into the seat and instructed her, "Monitor Xana yourself - keep her
alive or I'll wring your neck."
Limping painfully across the sickbay, Daisy ordered one of the guards to surrender his side arm and
abruptly held it at Crichton's head.
"Talk to me, damn you."
The alien calmly raised his - or, rather - Crichton's hands. "My host doesn't believe you will harm this
body. He says you protect your crew above all else."
Daisy smirked and changed the setting on her phaser from stun to kill.
"They're bringing two of my kids into sickbay - both of them comatose. Now, I'm telling you this
has to stop and you're going to explain yourself to me or I will kill you and I think even Crichton knows
that...."
Beads of sweat formed on Crichton's forehead and he began talking as himself,
"Daisy - put the phaser down - please."
