As the Durali civilization eventually overlapped the minds and bodies of the more than two hundred and thirty five
thousand people who lived and worked on GATEWAY STATION - every possible scenario occurred. There were
good aliens who were mortified to discover and be forced to struggle with psychiatric problems or various inner
demons of their humanoid hosts and humanoids mortified to discover and be forced to struggle with the now
dysfunctional and tortured consciousness of an alien that had been left wandering and painfully aware of the
passage of time in the "Abyss". There were those who co-existed peacefully, even becoming friends. They worked
together for the common good of everyone - trying to keep order and protect the ones who were struggling.
Bits of comic relief stood out among the chaos. In some corridors, through out places like the BIG KAHUNA water
park and the Gingerbread House, Durali children now in the bodies of adults ran and played, giggling, dancing
and rushing to try food from concession stands. The few unaffected people left on the station were left struggling
to keep from sniggering at the ridiculous sight of normally serious, dignified professionals with faces splotched with
enthusiastically eaten food and dirty clothes from running about with wreckless, childlike abandon.
The universe, God or Karma or "whatever" is in charge of all our lives can be cruel. Allowing bits of humor and
the occasional smile only softened the emotional defenses of those who would then be faced with the unhappy
and traumatized that sometimes could only sit on the floor in a corridor or on the promenade, hugging their
knees and helplessly rocking back and forth.
Not everyone was awake. Medical teams had to walk the station installing instruments for remote monitoring of
those who had yet to awaken because the sheer volume of bodies was too great for all the medical facilities. It
went against the grain of every doctor and nurse to leave comatose people simply lying on the floor and move
on to the next deck of general quarters or the next corridor - but sometimes that's exactly what they had to do.
The sixth fleet remained to enforce a quarrantine around the station. Though they were bothered by the occasional
ship attempting to leave the station against orders - very few made attempts to reach the station. Most were content
to get a comm signal through and talk to their loved ones except for a certain Borg Hybrid who had been left in
charge of Xana's personal ship.
The attempts of Tomas Vukovich to reach Xana Bonviva only led to vague descriptions of her as being
"indisposed" and to say that didn't sit well with Tomas was an understatement. Xana's personal ship - this big
purple and silver "boomerang" of a craft attempted the best possible evasive maneuvers and the borg attempted
to "negotiate" until, finally.....the TRENTON locked the Solstice in a tractor beam and the Trenton's crew boarded,
taking Tomas into custody.
Commodore Necarra, 6th Fleet CO, finally spoke to Tomas personally, chiding him for making a nuissance of himself.
The Commodore was so moved, though - by the Borg's stoic determination that nothing was going to stop him from
taking his rightful place by Xana's side - that he sighed and walked to a comm station near the brig and took it upon
himself to hail the station on Tomas's behalf.
"This is the CO of the TRENTON hailing GATEWAY station, respond please. "
[[ "This is Commander MacNeil ]]
"Are you familiar with a Tomas Vukovich? Assistant to Xana Bonviva?"
[[ "Aye" ]]
"He is requesting permission - rather insistantly - to join Xana on the station...."
There was an awkward silence as Kate considered the request. With his abilities -
Tomas could be an asset to their security efforts. However, if he were overcome by a
Durali himself - the Borg Hybrid could single-handedly make things much worse.
The Commodore asked again, "Will you grant Tomas Vukovich special dispensation
through the quarrantine so that he can join Xana on the station?"
Kate sighed and took a deep breath. Then, she replied, [[ "Aye, send him through. ]]

NRPG: My apologies for falling behind over the past several days. My son picked up
a headcold at school and brought it home with him. PJ, my husband and I have all been
sick and it's just been one thing after another.
I hope to do more in my next post. Until then, I tried to be vague about the level of devestation and the widespread nature of how this has affecded the station because I worried about being too specific spoiling anything anyone else was planning. I'll explore more intimate and personal situations in my next post.
In the meantime - please consider Ken Fields "Guest writing" for this mission. He is
working on a post with Sarah. I'm hoping letting Tomas Vukovich reach the station
will encourage yet another post from those two. LOL
JAMIE?! WHERE ARE YOU?!
