"Elsewhere in Esperion" continued from "Discussions" Location: USS PATRIOT Stardate: 2.70103.1213 Scene: Captain's Ready Room "Did you find in the records?" Helice asked. Ben had just finished making his report about the meeting with Jurveus. "McKlellan is still looking through them, but so far his story checks out. All of the societies income is accounted for, and none of the expenses seem suspicious. Of course, If they did hire assassins, it wouldn't be that hard to modify the records to make that money disappear. If that's what's happened, the only way we'd know is if someone made a mistake, but it would have to be a big enough one that we could find it." He sounded doubtful. Ben wasn't sure whether Jurveus had anything to do with the assassinations or not, but he was sure that if those records had been modified, it had been a thorough job. Jurveus was too smart to willingly offer them anything that might prove him guilty. Which meant he was either innocent, or he was very sure the records couldn't incriminate him. "I'm sure if there is anything to find Kel will find it." He'd proven himself a resourceful officer. "In the meantime, I think we need to consider the possibility that the government, or at least someone in it, may be responsible for the assassinations, at least until we can prove otherwise." "I'll inform the teams guarding the priests to keep an eye on the Esperion guards. If it's a military element they may be in on it." Ben offered. "I would also recommend interviewing the priests directly. We don't know all that much about this political situation here; they may be able to tell us something useful." "Agreed." Helice replied without hesitation. "You get started on that. I'm going to try and arrange a meeting with the president." =/\= Scene: Warehouse, Belial City "Where have you been? I've been waiting for a half an hour." Krodia growled. "If I'm not back at the checkpoint on time there'll be hell to pay." "It was unavoidable." The other man responded. He had orange skin, and half of his tail was missing. Krodia had never heard how it happened. "Now that most of the population is hiding in the temples, the military have started questioning everyone on the streets. Soon enough they'll put the city on complete lockdown. At least they'll try." His smile made Krodia shiver. "Alright, let's make this quick. Your merchandise is in these crates. You got the money?" "You money is here." He replied, handing the satchel to Krodia before opening the nearest create. "You are sure they won't be missed?" "It's from our reserve supplies. There'd be no need for additional weaponry under normal circumstances. The quartermaster won't miss them until its too late." "Excellent." he replied, opening the second crate. "I've got to get back before my CO gets suspicious. This never happened." "No it didn't." The man replied. "So if you're still in the city in three days, don't expect any special treatment." =/\= Scene: Secret Presidential Retreat "Come in." The president called through the door. When it opened he was met by a figure he knew well. "Latalia, how are you?" "Fine, Sir. I just got in." She replied tersely. "You have news from Tarrvas then?" "Yes, sir. The Federation ship you requested has arrived. They have added their own security forces to the Priests guards, and the Vice President met with the Captain this morning." "How did it go?" "Well enough, although she expressed disappointment that she couldn't meet with you personally." "Yes, well, that's to be expected." he said calmly. "Is there anything else." "Yes." She hesitated. Latalia rarely hesitated. "The Federation also had a meeting with Jurveus." "Jurveus?" The president repeated. "That does complicate things." --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Erik Walz Commander Benjamin Kenta Executive Officer USS PATRIOT 5781-A & Lt.
