=========== “Defining Moments, Part II” Con’t from my own “Defining Moments” =========== Location: ESPERION Stardate: 2422 [2.7] 0117.2146 Scene: Palthainon Compound -> Underground cave “Got it?” Daniel asked, once he’d finished giving his instructions to the security forces that had been assigned by the Government. “Yes sir,” came the reply, before the five turned around and hurried in the direction of the basement. As he reached the bottom stair, he heard the sounds of weapons fire start to drift down, and concluded that the battle was either very close to the compound or maybe had already reached the compound. Either way, speed was of the essence. “Okay,” Daniel said, as he spotted the other two. “It’s time for us to go.” The two Starfleet officers expectantly ran their gaze over towards the priest, who walked towards a part of the wall that appeared completely whole. He ran his hand over a part of it, and a small beep sounded, at which point the image of the wall shimmered and faded, replaced by a sliding door, which Palthainon quickly opened and walked through, the two Starfleet officers closely behind him. “The device is designed to re-apply the image behind us, and is of a technology beyond the current level enjoyed by the ESPERION populace.” Palthainon explained. “The only way to de-activate or even detect that particular device is when it detects the presence of my lifesigns near it. So it is very unlikely we will be followed down here.” Daniel nodded. “Okay,” he said. “Let’s get a move on then. I’ll take the lead – Harris, you can take the rear.” The three did just that, and presently the cave narrowed to such a small level that they had to travel single file anyway. “Be alert for anything,” Daniel said to the other two. “We have no idea where we’re going at the moment.” ============= Time Index: Half an Hour Later Scene: Building near the former site of the Rashas compound. “Okay,” Kenta said, rubbing his head slightly and taking a seat at the table. “Kel, give me a summary of the whole situation as it stands right now.” The two had just returned from their examination of the Rashas compound, where the bulk of the PATRIOT’s humanitarian efforts were now centered. They had commandeered the use of an abandoned structure to use as a temporary base of operations, and even as they talked, there were crews of Starfleet personnel coming in and out of the building. “A third group, that currently appears to be independent from either the Government or the Society of Progress, has emerged seemingly out of nowhere and taken over the capital city of ESPERION,” the SOO reported. “At last report, the compound housing Priest Palthainon within Belial City had been ransacked by the rebel forces, but no indication of the priest or our two officers were found – however the bodies of five government security guards were retrieved from the compound, as reported by the local databanks.” “Who was stationed to protect Palthainon?” Kenta asked. Kel consulted the PADD in front of him. “Captain Clarkson and Lieutenant Harris sir,” he reported. “They’re not dead,” Maverick said, causing both men to turn and regard him to where he was standing in the doorjamb. He walked over to them, taking a seat opposite from Kel at the table. “How can you be so sure?” Kel asked out of curiosity. “Knowing Clarkson, he tried to find a way to hide the priest, and judging by there not being any bodies, I think he was successful.” “Let’s hope so,” Kenta muttered. He’d already lost two officers on this mission, he didn’t want to lose any more. “Our forces are mainly concentrated in the areas surrounding the Rashas compound,” Kel continued with his report. “There’s been a lot of fallout with the explosion, and our top priority at the moment has been to stabilize the area.” “And that’s still our top priority for the moment,” Kenta said firmly. “There’s nothing we can do about Belial City at the moment, and in any case I’m not entirely sure what our responsibilities are in this situation.” “Another one of those grey areas that Starfleet rules love to create,” Mav said sarcastically. “Has the president given any indication of a reply to Tmozeg’s message?” Kenta asked Kel, ignoring Mav’s comment. “Not yet sir,” came Kel’s reply. “Then our options are very limited,” Kenta said. “Focus on the relief efforts – that is our top priority at the moment. If you’re able to find out if Clarkson and Harris are alive, all well and good, but at the moment, we have to hope they’ve been able to fend for themselves.” “Yes sir,” Kel said, before getting up and quickly exiting the room. Kenta sighed – he hated the thought of losing two more officers, but recognized that there wasn’t a whole lot he could do about it at the moment. “Security hasn’t been treated kindly as of late,” Kenta commented. “First Patricks dying at the hands of that New Order agent – then the Rashas explosion, and now Harris might be gone as well.” “Security isn’t the only department that lost a man in the explosion,” Mav answered quietly. “And if Harris is dead, Clarkson probably is too.” ========== NRPG: And here’s the 2nd half of what I wanted to write, which I think catches my character up with where the plotline currently is. So basically, Clarkson/Harris/Palthainon are wandering down this secret tunnel that leads to God only knows where (or should I say the nearly perfect one only knows where? ;) ) Everyone else is involved with the aftermath of the Rashas explosion, as well as the plotline introduced by Erik with the rebel forces. What will the president’s reply to the forces be? And what’s going to happen once the rest of the rebel leaders reach Belial City? Has Starfleet been brought into the middle of an all-out civil war? Only time will tell! Let’s see some posts everyone! ========== V. Rahul Chandra <vrccan_at_gmail.com> Playing...
