========== “The Set Up” Con’t from Taylor’s “70” ========== Location: ESPERION Stardate: 2422 [2.7] 0119.0518 Scene: Underground Caverns “Is it just me, or is there light ahead?” Daniel asked. Palthainon squinted, as did Harris who was standing behind him. “I think I see something also,” Harris replied. “Although I don’t know if that’s just placebo because of what you said.” Daniel smiled. “I guess maybe I shouldn’t have said anything and seen if either of you noticed,” he said, before his smile faded. “We need to proceed with extreme caution here – I want to be as cautious as possible.” His actions suited his words, as the trio inched forward, Daniel’s rifle trained in front of him and all his senses on full alert. Ever since he’d began training with Catherine, he’d noticed that his abilities to move silently and to track things had become better – not because of any extra physical ability on his part, but more so because he’d learned to be more efficient and fluid in his movements, which served to make him more silent, as well as serving to allow him to use his senses more to detect outward motion rather than concentrating on inward silence. After a few moments of tense silence, the trio finally all noticed a drastic light change, which indicated they were either approaching an outdoor area, or that they were approaching a well-lit area. A few more minutes later they emerged into an antechamber of sorts, which was a well lit cylindrical room, with a couple of mediocre benches carved right into the cave wall. Daniel looked around carefully, before slowly lowering his rifle and looking around with amazement on his face. “This has all been here for a long time,” Harris said, looking around with an equally impressed look on his own face. Palthainon smiled slightly. “These caverns were constructed shortly after all the priest compounds were.” Daniel nodded his head. “Okay,” he said, looking over at Harris and noticing that the security officer had brought a tricorder along with his rifle, flashlight and hand phaser. “Take some scans of the area,” he ordered Harris. “Hopefully the tricorder will be able to do some tunnel mapping for us and let us know what’s ahead.” “I think we have a problem,” Palthainon said, causing both Daniel and Mel to look over at him. Palthainon pointed, and both men followed his gaze, their expressions growing very grim at the sight they saw. There was one tunnel that led into the antechamber, and three that led away from it. ========== Time Index: Simultaneously Scene: Cave to the chamber of the nearly perfect one Cindy was rapidly losing consciousness from a combination of the pain of her broken leg, the blood loss and the rapidly decreasing amount of oxygen in the chamber. She sighed, removing her comm. badge, before leaning over slightly, gritting her teeth against the pain as she retrieved her tricorder from where it had fallen underneath her. She activated the device, breathing a sigh of relief as she saw the device was still working. Working as quickly as she could given her current state, she attached the comm. badge to the tricorder, before re-routing all of the power from the tricorder’s cells through the comm. badge, which she turned on and left on. The tricorder enhanced the comm. badge’s signal considerably, and beyond that all she could do was hope someone was near enough to pick up the signal through the thick rock faces. Her eyelids drooped closed, and as she gradually began to lose consciousness, the tricorder fell from her hands, hitting the floor with a soft thud. It continued to transmit long after she’d lost consciousness. ========== V. Rahul Chandra <vrccan_at_gmail.com> Playing...
