“Trying to Fit it All Together”

Con’t from Matt’s “Resurgence”

=======

Location: ESPERION

Stardate: 2422 [2.7] 0226.1742

Scene: Back Room of the store -> Store

“These tapes are in really craptacular form,” Kel commented as he sat down
at the desk, all the tapes from the security cameras in his possession.

“Can you retrieve any video from them?” Daniel asked.

“I’m working on it,” Kel commented shortly. Seeing that questioning him
further was only going to slow things down, Daniel resigned himself to
waiting. After a few minutes of impatient hovering, the marine informed the
strategic operations officer that he was going to go back out into the store
and look around. Giving nothing more than a grunt in reply, Kel continued
his work.

The marine walked out into the main area of the store, looking around as he
went. It appeared to be a general supplies store that had taken heavy
damage during the rebel coup on the city. All in all, there didn’t seem to
be a whole lot else to see here; that was when he remembered that he still
had the link to Catherine and he tapped his badge.

“You there Cath?”

[[I’m here,]] his wife assured him.

“How are you and Palthainon faring?” he asked.

[[Not well,]] he could hear the annoyance in her voice at the assignment
she’d been given. [[Aside from a bunch of vagaries about tunnel
constructions in their various religious texts, there isn’t anything we can
use to help us reconstruct a map of the caverns and most of them are too
deep for the PATRIOT’s scanners to analyze.]]

“I was afraid of that,” Daniel commented. “Somehow, I get the feeling that
we haven’t seen the last of those caves though.”

After a brief goodbye Daniel closed the link and started to look around. A
slight rustling drew his attention to one of the back shelves, but after
staring for a few minutes at nothing moving, he eventually gave up and
started back towards the room Kel was in. No sooner had he started walking
again then he heard a large noise as some produce was knocked off a shelf.
He whirled reflexively, raising his rifle in the process.

“Please, don’t shoot me!” a terrified voice called.

“Who are you?” Daniel demanded, not lowering his rifle but keeping it
pointed in the direction he’d heard the sound emanate from. “Come out here
where I can see you.”

“My name is Chravis,” the alien said as he complied with Daniel’s order, his
voice still stuttering with fear. “I am the owner of this store.”

Daniel lowered his rifle slightly, keeping it raised enough that he felt he
could get off a shot in time should this turn out to be a trick. “What
happened here?” he asked.

“Looters, during the night that the rebels took over the city,” Chravis
replied, his voice having a slight whiny quality to it as he recounted his
tale of woe. “They destroyed everything!”

“I think I got an identification on the buyer,” Kel said, walking into the
room. He was about to continue further when he stopped, staring with
surprise at Chravis.

“This is Chravis,” Daniel said to Kel. “The store owner. Give him the
PADD.”

Kel nodded, walking over to Chravis and handing him the device. “Do you
remember this man?” he asked.

Chravis looked and immediately nodded his head. “Yes, I do,” he said. “I
know this because he was a fairly regular customer, so much so that I had a
tab for his purchases.”

“Can you find his information for us?” Kel asked.

“If the computer still works,” Chravis said, walking over to the counter and
sitting down, Daniel and Kel following. The ESPERION native muttered to
himself as he typed in commands into the computer, sighing with relief when
the machine worked.

“At least that’s one thing I won’t have to spend money on replacing,” he
said to no one in particular as he continued to enter commands into the
device. Eventually, he got a screen to pop up with the information he
wanted and he turned the computer so that Daniel and Kel could read. The
screen contained a wealth of information about the man they were looking
for.

Daniel reached out and with a finger silently pointed to one piece of
information on the screen. Kel looked at where Daniel was pointing, before
exchanging looks with the marine.

“I don’t believe it,” he said finally after a few minutes of silence.

============

NRPG: I have been allowed by our CO to write the closer for this mission, so
I’m just using this post as a sort of lead in as well as a reminder to
anyone that if you want to write something else for this mission, do it
soon.

Matt -> Excellent post buddy!

I want to have the closer out before the end of the week.
