=========== “Catching Up” Con’t from Taylor’s <PATRIOT> “072” =========== Location: ESPERION Stardate: 2422 [2.7] 0312.1720 Scene: Transporter Area “The week passed by too quickly,” Daniel said as the newly married couple made their way back up the first hiking trail they’d tackled. They had opted to spend their honeymoon out in the wilderness roughing it rather than somewhere warm and luxurious. It had been great to get away from it all and the two had spent a glorious week alone with each other in the middle of nowhere. “You can say that again,” Catherine answered, with a small smile over at her husband as she broke a small branch off of one of the trees and absently passed it between her hands. “The week passed by…” Daniel repeated with a grin, before dodging the branch as she playfully hurled it at him. =========== Time Index: A few minutes later Location: USS PATRIOT Scene: Transporter Room -> Corridor -> Turbolift -> Clarkson/Jade Quarters “Welcome back,” Private DJ Samuels was waiting for the two of them as they materialized on the transporter pad. “Thanks Samuels,” Daniel said, grinning across at the other marine. “You came all the way here just to welcome us back?” Catherine asked, incredulous. She took a quick look around the room. “Did you blow something up?” Samuels beamed at her. “No ma’am,” he said. “At least not that I know of.” “I don’t know if that makes me more or less confident,” Catherine muttered to herself quietly enough that neither her husband nor Samuels heard. “I actually came here to tell you that the Colonel has ordered a meeting in one hour,” Samuels continued, blissfully unaware of the Intelligence Officer’s remark. “He asked me to come and tell you as soon as you got on board so that you would have time to prepare.” “Thank you Samuels,” Daniel replied, as both he and Catherine dismounted from the transporter pad. The three of them exited the room and continued down the corridor towards the turbolift. “Did he say what the meeting was going to be about?” Daniel asked. “No sir,” Samuels replied. “I think that part of it is going to be a memorial for the marines that died during the assaults.” “Yeah, that sounds right,” Daniel agreed. The three entered the turbolift and Daniel called out the deck number of the quarters he shared with Catherine and Samuels called out marine deck. They rode in silence until the lift made its first stop, where Catherine and Daniel got off. “You’re walking strangely,” Catherine observed, looking over at her husband with a concerned expression. “Is anything wrong?” “Naw,” Daniel replied. “I just need a few minutes to get my eyes re-adjusted to the artificial lighting.” He grinned over at her. “Those of us that aren’t superheroes take time getting re-acclimated.” Catherine stuck her tongue out at him as the two of them kept walking. Presently Daniel’s eyes adjusted to the different lighting level and he was able to walk without fear of crashing into something in front of him. The two arrived at their quarters and because he needed to get over to the meeting quickly, Daniel made sure to use the shower first. In a few minutes he was fully refreshed and dressed in his best duty uniform. He walked out into the living room and scooped his wife up into his arms. “We definitely have to do that again soon,” he said. “For sure,” Catherine replied. “But Daniel, right now I’m getting sweat and dirt all over your uniform…” Daniel laughed and kissed her. “I’ll be back after the meeting,” he promised, before kissing her once more and heading for the exit. ======== Time Index: After Taylor’s post Scene: Marine Deck Daniel stood in the same spot for about fifteen minutes as he accepted the congratulations of the various marines that served under him. As the marines spread out and some walked out towards the other facilities of marine deck and others stayed in the briefing room, Daniel made his way over the Maverick, shaking his superior’s hand once more. “Thanks Colonel,” he said with a grin. “You deserve it,” Mav repeated. “Now I’ve gotta get the hell outta here. Kyle’s going down to SFM to get his legs worked on and I’m going with him.” “I thought that wasn’t for another couple of hours,” Daniel commented, remembering being told earlier before the meeting had started that the PATRIOT had arrived early. “It isn’t, but knowing Kyle it’s going to take forever to get him out the door,” Mav said gruffly, before turning around and walking out of the briefing room. Shaking his head and chuckling to himself, Daniel ran a hand up to his collar, feeling the new insignia and sighing with contentment. It was a great end to the perfect week and right now he couldn’t wait to get back to his wife. “Hey Major, mind giving us a hand with this?” one of the marines called. Daniel looked over and noticed that they were re-shelving some of the weapons. Seeing that Samuels was amongst the group, Daniel decided for the good of the ship that he should give them a hand. Before he could take a step in their direction though his communicator beeped. [[Jade to Clarkson. Daniel, are you there?]] Daniel tapped his comm. badge. “What’s up Cath?” he asked. [[Your mother just called; it looks like we have a bit of a celebration to attend tomorrow,]] Catherine said. [[She asked me to come down and take a look at some of the preparations.]] “Okay,” Daniel said. “I’ll meet you then later,” he closed the comm. link before realizing that he’d forgotten to tell her the good news. He debated calling her back but decided against it, knowing that it would keep. ========= Time Index: Way later Location: EARTH (Paris, France) Scene: Starfleet Medical, Private Ward Room “Well well well,” Kyle looked up from the screen he’d been watching and grinned as he saw his dad’s second-in-command walk through the door. “It’s about damn time Clarkson,” he growled. “What, you didn’t think I’d pay you a visit?” Daniel asked, looking over at the screen Kyle was looking at. “What’s on?” “Baseball,” Kyle grunted. “Minnesota’s playing Washington.” The two of them were silent for about five minutes as they watched the screen, completely engrossed in the game that was going on. When Mav walked into the room a few minutes later, neither of them noticed and he had to say something to get their attention. “I need to head back to the ranch for a couple of hours,” Mav said. “Would you mind staying with Kyle?” “Not at all,” Daniel assured him, both of them ignoring the looks Kyle was sending their way. “Just do me a favor and let Cath know I’ll be a bit late going back to St. Paul.” ========= NRPG: Well, I didn’t get to read the post before Kim and Alix ruined the surprise for me! But all the same, thanks for the promotion, it is much appreciated =D Just another note from our CO that she asked me to pass along: We’ve got a new addition to our roster. Bethany B, playing Tam Niala, is now a member of the PATRIOT crew so if you could all add her e-mail address <mouse3of3_at_yahoo.com> to all your future posts, that would be fantastic. More official information about her assignments and such will be forthcoming at a later time! ========= ========== V. Rahul Chandra <vrccan_at_gmail.com> Playing...
