========== “Nightmare” Con’t from Naomi’s “Furphies” ========== Location: DREAMSCAPE Stardate: 2422 [2.7] 0316.2254 Scene: Caverns Daniel found himself walking along the corridors, a phaser rifle in his hand and a frown on his face. He had no idea where he was going really and only knew that he needed to continue forward. He didn’t know why he needed to do so; he just felt the compulsion to move forward and felt the overwhelming sense that something very important was awaiting him. The sounds of a firefight drew the young man’s attention away from his inner thoughts and outwards towards the situation at hand. He debating calling for help, but instead decided to cautiously approach the location where the sounds were emanating from and see what he was up against. Just as he reached the area where he figured the sounds were coming from, they stopped. Frowning, he didn’t know which move was the best one to make. Since the sounds had stopped he didn’t think that going back down the corridor and getting help was a bad idea, but at the same time he was intensely curious to see what was going on. That added to his continuing compulsion eventually drove his decision in the direction of the latter option and he carefully crept forwards, holding his rifle in a position that would allow him to quickly get a shot off should the need for it arise. He edged into a larger room and swept his rifle around in an arc, ready to shoot should he see any hostile targets. Eventually his eyes came across the body of a man slightly taller than him and considerably more built. The burn marks across his chest showed that he was probably dead and a quick check of the man’s pulse confirmed that to be the case. Frowning, Daniel turned around and was momentarily stunned to see an exact replica of himself. The other Daniel was crouching down by the ground with his back turned to the centre of the room and by the sounds of things was crying very heavily. The upright Daniel took a few steps forward and froze. He knew for certain now that the other Daniel was crying, and that he was cradling a body in his arms. A cold wave of fear brushed over Daniel and without a moment’s hesitation he turned and fled back down the corridor the way he’d come. ============ Location: EARTH (St. Paul, Minnesota, United States of America) Scene: Williamson Residence, Daniel and Marty’s Room -> Corridor -> Guest Room Daniel’s eyes snapped open and he let out a breath in a large gush. The familiar scene of his brother’s bunk above him drew him back to the present and he realized that it had all just been a nightmare. He was back home in St. Paul and the reception for Catherine and he was happening the next day. With a sigh he heaved himself up to a sitting position and carefully avoiding hitting his head on the bunk above him he walked over to the door and started on down the corridor. The guest room in his mom’s house only housed a single-sized bed and because of that whenever Daniel and Catherine visited, Catherine slept in the guest room and Daniel took the bunk in the old room that he used to share with Marty. It wasn’t an ideal arrangement but neither of them minded it particularly, especially since it avoided them having to stay in one of the temporary Starfleet hostels. As Daniel neared the guest room, his eyes caught the time on the wall chronometer and he debated whether or not he should knock, fearing that he might wake his wife up. The fact that no light was emanating from underneath the doorway sealed the deal in favour of his not doing anything and he turned around and headed towards the kitchen, grabbing himself a cup of hot chocolate and taking a seat at the table. While he didn’t really want to admit it to himself, he knew subconsciously that the dead figure in his dream had been Catherine. He shook his head and frowned, wondering why he’d had this particular dream at this particular time. He and Catherine had just passed the four month mark of their marriage and considering they’d only just taken their honeymoon things had never been better. Could it be a premonition? Daniel doubted that, since nothing about the nightmare seemed particularly real. And in any case he didn’t believe that he had any precognitive abilities, so that just left him completely in the dark on what it all meant. “Well,” he muttered to himself. “We have a new counsellor – maybe I should make an appointment after the reception to talk to her about it.” Having resolved to do something about it, he immediately felt better. Downing the rest of his hot chocolate he got back up and padded back down the corridor to the room he shared with his younger brother, yawning as he went. =========== NRPG: Extraordinarily character-centered I know.
