"St. Patrick's day - part three" ( Continued from St. Patrick's day - part two ) __________________________________ Location: Starfleet Medical Scene: Daisy's hospital room Stardate: 2.70317.0016 Time index: a couple hours later __________________________________ Lying back in her bed, the exhausted woman couldn't walk anymore. She slept between contractions, gathering her strength for the birth. Five minutes apart....her eyes fluttered open as yet another ribbon of pain made it's way through her stomach and her back. "Easy there, luv....just breathe...." She smiled without opening her eyes... recognizing Peter's voice. "You're awake." He rubbed her forehead with a cool cloth and she opened her eyes. Managing a smile, she teased through gritted teeth. "You start crying again, I'm gonna hit you." Peter scoffed, laughing. "Now, hush and breathe." "Big baby." She panted weakly. "March into battle without batting an eye...but come time to sit here and help me give birth...you're a wreck...." "I know...." he sighed. Unable to talk anymore....she was in tears as she had to go back to breathing. He quickly offered her his hand to hold as the contraction peeked. His bottom lip quivering as he saw the exhausted woman lean upward, pushing her head towards her belly until the contraction began to fade. Finally, she fell back into her pillow with a sigh of relief. "I'm never putting you through this again, Daisy..." he groaned, his face contorting with guilt. " I don't know what we were thinking...asking you to go through something this painfull... I'm so sorry." She rolled her eyes and groaned. "Dammit, Peter...I knew what I was doing and I don't regret anything. Stop torturing yourself. I wanted this...." Holding her hand, he sighed. "How could anyone want *THIS*? You're breaking my heart...suffering like this." She grinned. "It's the best day I've had in a long time, Peter..." He laughed...looking at her sweaty and pitiful, exhausted from the long labor. "How can you say that?" "I've screwed up so many things in the past two years..." Daisy beamed through her misery. " I hurt both Ben and Zuri. I failed Jason. I hurt Xavier....." Peter scoffed and smoothed her damp hair away from her face. "No, no...no....." "Don't argue with me." She frowned. "It's been one mistake after another for a good solid couple of years now....but today...I get to make a miracle happen." She grinned up at him, weak and tired - but happy. "I'm finally going to do something right, Peter." she teared up and possitively glowed through her exhaustion. "I'm going to see you and Matthew with your beautifull little boys and I'm going to be able to say...'I did that. I made that happen. I did something good. I got something right....so going through all of this?" she sniffled and then assured him. "This has been the best gift you've ever given me...letting me do this for you..." The brit sighed and thumped his head gently on the side of the bed. Then, he sniffled himself and chided her with a soft laugh. "It's really not fair to say something that sweet and then tell me I'm not supposed to cry." She grinned. "I don't have to be fair..I...." Another contraction came...harder and faster....alarms began going off. Matthew came running in. "What's happening?!" Kate came in behind Matthew...and smiled. "We're at 8 centimeters...almost time to push..." Cade followed after Kate and took Aerdan's position pulling excessories out of the sides of the hospital bed. The lower half of the mattress area fell downward as sleek styrrups emerged. Matthew and Peter looked at each other, gulping. Daisy saw Foster and called out in a weak, pitiful voice. "Cade?" He looked at her and she gave him this scared, pleading look. As Aerdan walked in, Cade dropped any thoughts of providing medical assistance and just took the spot at Daisy's side, holding her hand. "I'm so tired." "No, you're not...no, you're not..." He smirked. "You got the biggest walnuts of any woman I know and you're gonna kick ass right through this, ok?" Matthew and Peter held each other's hands and Matthew called out...."We're here, Daisy...you're doing great." Aerdan studied the console over Daisy's bed as the pregnant woman breathed through yet another contraction. Standing ready for the delivery, Kate called out... "The first baby Aspinall is crowning!" Daisy's face turned this extremely dark red as she began to push. Kate's smile suddenly darkened to a look of worry and she stood up. Leaning forward over Daisy's belly to get her attention, she yelled. "Wait...stop...stop...." "What?!" Daisy practically screamed. "You have to control your push...I don't want you to tear..." The pregnant woman scoffed at Kate. "You gotta be kidding me." Kate stood her ground firmly and Aerdan gently pressed a hypospray to Daisy's throat...giving her something to keep her blood pressure from going any higher. Daisy plopped backwards, waiting for the next contraction and the next chance to push. Her bottom lip quivered and she was crying. The next contraction came and she pushed....doing her best to follow Kate's instructions. Aerdan stepped closer to Kate and saw the head and shoulders beginning to emerge. Kate looked like an angel as she confidently guided the baby and spoke to Daisy. "One more push and we got him...one more push and we got him. Beginning to hyperventilate, Daisy dug down and pushed. The room began to spin for Peter as he saw Kate hold up this beautiful, perfect infant boy with a thick head of dark hair. The baby was already starting to cry as Aerdan took the child to a nearby infant exam table. With a nurse to help, he took on the task of cleaning and inspecting the baby. After all the horrors that Peter and Aerdan had faced battling the rogue collective on ANDALUSIA, they got to share a moment of pure happiness. Aerdan held this beautiful little boy and see those big, innocent eyes looking around and placed him in Peter's arms. Matthew and Peter were both crying as they kissed his little face. Peter gently handed their son to Matthew as Aerdan, also glowing with joy, asked, "Name?" "Boone." Cade's voice startled them both. "Jos!" Daisy's face was a complete blank. She appeared unresponsive. Kate began barking orders at the nurse. Matthew frantically asked. "What is it?" Aerdan just ignored the question and said, "Carry the baby to the nursery..." Matthew scooped up their son and gave Peter a worried look. Peter kissed the top of Boone's head and sighed, his heart in his throat over the thought of something happening to Boone's brother or Daisy. "It's a type of seizure...." Aerdan muttered. "Her blood pressure is spiking way too high - the meds I gave her aren't working...." "She'll be ok, though?" Peter asked desperately. "She'll be fine if we get this other baby delivered now... only he's not cooperating..." Aerdan roughly pulled Peter closer and the brit's face contorted with anguish as he began to "feel" the distress of both Daisy and his other son. More than just seeing it with his eyes....he could feel that tiny little person she carried within her was struggling. "I need your hands. " Aerdan demanded. "Help me calm the baby while I get her stabilized." Peter trembled as he put his hands on Daisy's stomach, feeling the squirming movements of an anxious baby within pressing back against him. "Easy little one...." he whispered. " ...easy...." Aerdan leaned in closely over the still blank face of Daisy. Shining a light into her eyes, he gave her another hypospray of meds. It touched him to notice the look of worry on Cade's face. The older man was in tears. The XO of the Prophecy suddenly gasped and awareness came back to her eyes. She groaned. "I have such a headache..." Cade laughed and teased. "Nice of you to come back to us. Think we can finish getting these babies out of you?" She laughed weakly, her voice beginning to give out. She sounded kind of raspy as she replied...."I'll do my best." With the next contraction...she pushed.... Matthew came back from taking Boone to the nursery just in time to see Aerdan place Benham in Peter's arms. They were indentical and they were both perfect - beautiful and healthy little boys. Daisy cried watching the second of the two babies enjoying attention from his fathers. Then, she turned her head towards Cade and asked with a smile. "I can sleep now, right?" He smiled. "You can sleep." A look of relief on her face, she smirked. "Tell them, Happy St. Patrick's day..." ________________________________________________________ Location: Corridor Scene: outside nursery _______________________________________________________ It wasn't a romantic dinner in an elegant restaurant. They were both sweaty and fatigued, disheveled even...after the long ordeal of helping Daisy deliver the babies. Finally, though - Kate had what she needed in order to feel "right" finishing the task Admiral Harper had given her. They were happy. They were watching Peter and Matthew sitting in rocking chairs and feeding their babies. The loving husband's were glowing. "Promise me you'll always remember this, ok?" Kate asked cryptically. Aerdan frowned. "Of course, why wouldn't I?" Kate stammered. "Well, I have something I was supposed to give you a couple weeks ago....but I've been stalling...trying to find a time when I could make it something good instead of a reminder of something dark..." The Andorian crossed his arms over his chest and sighed. "Kate...what is it?" She shoved her hand into the pocket of her scrubs and said, "I want you to remember *THIS* day when you think about what I'm giving you now. I want you to remember how well we worked together helping deliver these babies and all that we have to look forward to... not the past, ok?" Laughing awkwardly, Aerdan threw his hands in the air and replied, "Very well, very well...what is it?" Smiling timidly, Kate gently informed him. "You are hearby promoted to Lieutenant and Chief Science officer and for your recent accomplishments, you have been awarded the Soong Ribbon by Starfleet Command...." Aerdan sighed quietly as Kate placed the velvet box with the awards into his hand. And for a moment, part of him was drawn back to darker memories of ANDALUSIA 7. Then, he turned towards the window and looked at the healthy Aspinall babies enjoying being fed by their fathers. Kate held her breath and didn't exhale until finally, Aerdan smiled and replied. "Thank you." _____________________________________________________ NRPG: Congradulations, Jamie - now it's done. Aerdan has what we promised him and you earned it. :) Peter - Happy St. Patrick's day.
