((NRPG: Had to repost in order to fix up some errors, apologies for
this, I blame it on swiss cheese memory. I've basically changed Zuri to
Cade.))

"Furphies"
Con't from Rahul's post

Location: EARTH
Scene: St. Pauls

"Well, well, well." Daniel glanced up as he rounded the side of the
house into the backyard. He had seen the side gate open, and it was
always a sign that someone was working out the back. "I was wondering
when you would show up." Marty chided his older brother as he set down
a bucket.

The two brother's hugged and thumped each other on the back. "Hey, man,
you know what its like." Daniel grinned. Even though they were both
in Starfleet, they had discarded their uniforms for civilian clothing.
It was a nice change of pace for a while. "How are you?" He said as
they separated.

"Good, you're looking pretty beat though." Marty grinned and folded his
arms across his chest. His brown hair was tussled and slightly
dampened, and his clothes were grimy, but he was looking hale and hearty.

"Been hiking for a week." Clarkson replied, unable to stop the smile.

Marty winked and gave his brother a chuckle. "So Catherine said." He
picked up the bucket, filled with dirt, and walked it over to the
vegetable garden and upended it, drowning the carrot seedlings under a
mountain of dirt. He'll dig it out later.

"Where is she?"

Marty tilted his head, gesturing towards the house, and more specially
the two open windows of the kitchen, from which some glorious smells
were escaping. "Helping our dear mother cook a feast."

"I thought it was just us?" Daniel asked surprised. Four people didn't
make a feast in his book.

The younger sibling mockingly rolled his eyes. "I think most of the
family's coming over tonight." He told his brother with a grin. That
meant cousins, aunts, uncles, friends, and anyone else who cared to
mention.

Clarkson gulped, it was always a big undertaking. He just wished he had
known sooner. His family could be a handful. "Daniel, stop being
unsociable!" He snapped around as he heard his mother calling out from
the kitchen.

The marine left his brother outside and dashed into the house. He found
both women busily working in the kitchen. There were roasts, and
vegetables, salads, plates, bowls, ingredients everywhere. It was a
mess. "Hey mom, how are you?" He kissed her quickly.

"Busy, harried, a little annoyed at her eldest son for not coming in
sooner." She chided him as she stirred the sauce on the stove before
double checking the oven temperature.

"Sorry, got talking with Marty." Daniel kept well out of her way. She
was the master of the domain and he knew not to interfere.

Nancy gestured with the wooden spoon that Daniel could return outside.
"Then you two might as well start clearing out the backyard. Today is
nice and warm, and I think we'll eat outside. So you'll have to get the
tables and set them up." She ordered him.

"Okay, haven't done hard labour in a while." Daniel grinned and ducked
over towards his wife and kissed her. He still had the news of his
promotion to tell her, but he would wait until he got a better chance.

"You're going to strip off and run around half-naked?" Catherine
grinned and turned around. She held her arms away from him, least she
get flour over his clothes. She had been kneading breads under Nancy's
watchful eyes.

"You'd like that, wouldn't you?" He softly chuckled and gave her a
quick kiss on the tip of her nose. "By the way, you have flour all over
your face and hair...everywhere actually. It looks quite cute." He
winked and fled before she threw something at him.

Tellah Cal was frustrated. She couldn't understand why the moment they
had made port, everyone had fled the boat like rats from a sinking
ship. She glared at Helice Jones as the woman made some quick final
preparations. "Captain. Here are the last of the maintenance
requisitions. The quartermaster needs your authorisation before he can
start loading supplies on the Patriot. And, the scientists are
requesting that you please sign off on..." Cal said as she watched
Jones crossing from one side of the Bridge to another.

"Lieutenant, we're on shore leave. Most of that stuff can wait until
tomorrow at the very least. Take some time off, let your hair down and
go explore the station." The Commanding Officer told her in a firm
tone. Helice very much needed some time off, and wasn't very happy with
Cal giving her more work to do. "You might actually enjoy it." She
added firmly.

"I have reports to write..." Cal growled.

Helice headed towards the turbolift, her duffle bag swung over her
shoulder. "None of which that are critical. Good day, Lieutenant."
She didn't look back as she entered the turbolift.

Cal spun around and hissed under her breath. How could she be expected
to do her job when no one else would do theirs?

She had completed all of her reports and everything else that might be
required. But all of her reports were sitting on the department head's
desks because there was no one left to sign off on them. They had all
left.

Tellah shook her head and headed towards the turbolift. She had done
her job, and Jones had told her to get off the ship. So then, maybe she
would. The Anarian uncoiled her hair so that it hung down, almost to
her waist. The blood red locks gleamed in the soft light. She
disembarked and walked along the corridors away from the docking section.

She was almost out into the populated station areas when she stumbled
across a young ensign. Looking very lost, and heading towards the
restricted zone. There was no way that that ensign was supposed to be
heading in that direction. Cal rolled her eyes and cleared her throat,
summoning the young woman's attention. "Can I help you?"

"Yes, I think, sir. I'm Ensign Niala Tam, I've been assigned to the
Patriot." The Bajoran was timid, and meek. So very green and new to
all of this, it was almost painful.

"You're heading towards the restricted area, and only the Furphy is
there." Tellah primly informed the girl.

"Oh...I didn't realise."

Cal folded her arms across her chest. "I suppose the signs are hard to
read." She mused out loud.

"How do I get to the Patriot then?" Tam asked, not knowing if that was
a wise question or not. Surely there were other persons about that
would be a little more helpful.

Ten minutes later, Tellah stepped out onto the main promenade. Her day
had gone from bad to worse, when she ended up having to walk Tam to the
Patriot, and then Cal had to walk all the way back. She didn't get
humans. They were not efficient at all. Time wasters, with a love
for having more rungs in a chain of command then were necessary.

She growled softly as she ploughed through the crowds of shoppers, they
parted like the sea for this red-haired dynamo in a foul mood. All
expect one. Tellah had her head down, didn't see him. He had his arms
full with a huge gift basket, didn't see her.

The consequent collision nearly dropped both of them to the ground, and
the man barely was able to keep his gift secure.

"Watch where you're going!" Tellah snarled. This was the final straw.

The man narrowed his eyes, not the least bit intimidated by the small
woman. He had dashed over to SB1 to pick up something for Daisy.
"Hey, why don't you get out of my way?" He demanded angrily.

"Why should I get out of *your* way?" She asked incredulously.

The man retorted. "I don't know, common courtesy?" He snapped back.
She had caused his good mood to evaporate from the moment they met, and
he was none too happy.

"You just ran me over, and you want to talk about courtesy?" Her
imperious tone of voice just served to make him angrier. If he wasn't
carrying the basket for his wife, he would have something serious to say
to this young woman.

"Who are you anyway?" He demanded.

"Lieutenant Tellah Callishendrack'Hylarmarishnakaashanah, Chief
Operations Officer on the Patriot." She was arrogant, condescending and
absolutely unapologetic. "Who are you?" She asked as an after thought.

"Dr. Cade Foster, from the...Furphy" Cade hesitated for a moment before
giving the Prophecy its cover name. After all, she was a top secret
ship. "Ever heard of a nickname?" He growled at her.

"That is my nickname, my proper name is beyond the scope of your vocal
abilities, and I won't stand for it being butchered." Cal folded her
arms across her chest before she smirked slightly. "But for
you...humans...you can call me Cal."

"Less chance of butchering?" Cade asked her, following her smug tone of
voice.

"It's only three letters, how bad can it get?"

"You have no idea." Cade smiled nastily, he would love to continue
this, but he had places to be and things to do. "Now if you don't mind,
my darling's about to big birth and I'm in a hurry." He stalked off.
