========== “NPC Chronicles: Marine Edition” Con’t from Taylor’s “74” ========== Location: EARTH (Starfleet Command) Stardate: 2422 [2.7] 0325.0230 Scene: Bar Josh Morris, Brian Dirak and Randall Benoit were seated around a table at one of the pubs located near Starfleet Command. The three had gone through their boot camp together and had all been transferred to the DISCOVERY directly from the camp. Under the guidance of first Bret Maverick and then later Daniel Clarkson when Maverick had transferred off the unit, all three had seen more combat than most marines with their similar service length. Eventually, Morris had re-trained to become an officer and the other two had gained team leader roles in the unit stationed above the DISCOVERY. Through a lengthy series of transfers and events all three had found themselves back together aboard the PATRIOT along with both Bret and Daniel. Same unit, different ship, different name. “What would you guys say if I told you I was sick of it all?” Dirak asked, nursing a glass of beer as he spoke. He’d already gotten himself quite liquored up and both of the other men knew that he was prone to rant when he was getting close to being full out drunk. “I’d say I wouldn’t believe you,” Morris said with a faint grin. “Bah, what do you know?” Dirak challenged. “You’re an officer now; you have no clue what it’s like to be serving in the field day in and day out with no reward or even many times no thanks whatsoever!” Benoit raised an eyebrow at his old friend. “Unless I am mistaken,” he started, his faint French accent evident in the words that he spoke. “Neither Colonel Maverick nor Major Clarkson have ever shirked from duties in the field. In fact, one of the two of them lead every foray we go on.” “Shut up Randall,” Dirak said glumly as he downed another beer. “You’re boring.” Randall and Josh exchanged a look and at a brief nod from the latter the two got up and attempted to help Dirak to his feet. “Come on Brian,” Josh urged. “I think you’ve had a bit too much to drink tonight.” “Nonsense,” Dirak said, although he allowed himself to be unsteadily pushed in the direction of the door. =========== Location: USS PATRIOT Scene: Marine Deck Samuels looked at the table in front of him, his mind whirling at a million miles a minute. The incident with the rifle had decidedly been a close call and he had to admit that he was extraordinarily lucky that it had been the new counselor that had seen it rather than one of the other marines. If it had been Maverick or Clarkson he would be in big trouble right now and if it had been any of the others he’d very likely still end up getting in trouble. “It’s not my fault,” Samuels muttered to himself as he got up and began to pace back and forth. “My inventions would work if…” he stopped suddenly, before shaking his head and continuing to pace. He sat back down at the table heavily and glumly hung his head in his hands. He had no clue why his inventions never worked and that fact depressed him. After all, he only meant well with what he did. He sighed again, glancing impatiently at the wall chronometer. His relief was very close to running late and he felt like he needed off the ship in a big way. ========= NRPG: There was going to be one more scene in this post but I ran out of steam in a big way! In any case, here is another one of my infamous ultra-short do absolutely nothing posts! =D Bethany -> Loved your post! Nice way to get off the mark for the PAT =) ========= ========== V.
