"New Faces and New Places" Cont. from "The Accepted Protocol..." ------------------------------------------------------ Location: USS PATRIOT Stardate: 2.70407.1657 Scene: T'ial's Quarters -> Outside CSO's Office Tam looked around, out of curiousity, as T'ial set down her bag and began unpacking its few contents. The rooms were a great deal like her own, probably in fact mirrored for the designers' ease. She drew her attention back to T'ial's bag, which was by now almost empty. "Didn't you bring anything else?" "Why? The replicators will supply me with uniforms and I do not anticipate needing anything else for the foreseeable future." She folded the bag and tucked it into an empty drawer. "I believe that you said I had an office, as well?" "Yes..." She shook her head over T'ial's literal interpretation of Starfleet regs. The guidelines suggested few personal items to be brought aboard, but not many officers obeyed it. Even she had brought on more things than T'ial. "It's on deck seven, so we'll have to use the turbolift." T'ial did not respond, merely waiting patiently. When Tam didn't move after a moment, she raised an eyebrow to indicate her questioning of the wait. The former indulged herself in a slight sigh at the Vulcan obsession with efficiency and led the way out of the room. "What have you been doing since you passed the ACT? It didn't take them that long to find you a post," Tam asked as they waited for the turbolift. T'ial did not answer until after they were moving in the turbolift. "I was initially assigned to Gateway Station, but I requested a ship rather than a station. I believe that I would get more varied experience traveling rather than remaining stationary." "So that was what the wait for your assignment was." They moved out of the turbolift when it stopped and started to walk along the corridor. "You still need to meet the rest of the senior staff. I assume some of them will only be available at the first staff meeting, as I haven't even met them yet." "Or you can meet one of them now," a voice said from ahead of them. Both women came to a complete stop and saluted as soon as they saw the rank pin on the woman's collar. "At ease, Ensigns." "Yes, sir." Tam dropped her arm, but retained her stance, and she noticed T'ial doing the same. She straightened (she had been leaning ever-so-slightly against the doorframe) and studied the two of them, frowning absentmindedly. "Ensign Tam Niala and Ensign T'ial. Welcome aboard." The frown changed into a warm smile. "Are you both settling in?" "Yes, sir. We have both found our quarters and offices." T'ial looked the woman in eye and added, "I would be determining the capabilities of the facilities if I was allowed inside." Captain Jones started laughing. "True, very true. I just wanted to meet my two new officers before we got underway. If you have any problems, please let me know. Now, I need to get some things in order, so I'm going to let you explore. I'll see you both soon." Tam and T'ial looked at each other, speechless, as the captain walked away. ---------------------------------------------------------- Bethany B.
