"Waiting"
Cont. from Rahul's "Routine Should Never Be Used..."
------------------------------------------------
Location: KARASHI NEBULA
Scene: Hangar bay two

The other two assigned to the search were huddled around airlock to the STAR RIDER when Tam entered the bay. She'd strapped a phaser on one hip and a medical tricorder on the other, and was holding a small first aid case. It taken her an extra minute to go by sickbay to pick it up, but she had rationalized that it was worth it, even when McClellan noticed it. "We already have a medkit on the shuttle."

"I know. But shuttle kits aren't always the best stocked, and judging by how much we know about the COLUMBIA we may need extra supplies."

She waited for his reply, and got it in a sigh and a careless hand gesture. "Do what you think is best." He turned back to the airlock, saying as he stepped in, "All right, let's go. T'ial, you're up front with me, I'll be piloting and I won't necessarily pick up any strange sensor readings. I'll need another pair of eyes." The last few words were almost lost as he receded deeper in.

Tam motioned for T'ial to go first, noting that the other ensign looked ever-so-faintly wide-eyed. **It is her first mission, after all,** although the thought of the confident Vulcan being anything short of poised amused her. It shouldn't, given how often she did indulge in not-strictly-Vulcan behavior, but it was still occasionally unexpected.

Within only a couple of minutes, the bay was opened and the STAR RIDER was out into the fringes of the nebula. As it slipped slowly deeper, the matter grew thicker, and even looking out the front viewscreen proved fruitless. She could only imagine how the sensors must look, and she felt sorry for McClellan trying to pilot. She could hear the occasional muttered curse, and even T'ial's posture morphed to one that was more tense. Tam couldn't control the shudder as they narrowly missed a rather impressive chunk of matter.

T'ial was the first to break the silence. "The PATRIOT has entered the nebula. The sensors are still not registering any sign of the COLUMBIA."

"Of course, that would make it too easy. Keep scanning. If the COLUMBIA really was attacked, the other ship will probably still be around."

Tam waited.

NRPG: Yeah, I know, not much happening, but I figured I'd get you a guys a glimpse from the inside of the shuttle. Well, that and I'm too impatient to just wait for the next update. Tag!
