"Cruising and Bruising"
Continued from "Waiting"
--------------------------------------
Location: The Karashi Nebula
Scene: Star Rider
T'ial's eyes searched for the COLUMBIA. She moved closer to the console to get a closer view.
"Nothing yet," she said as she moved her head slightly from side to side, scanning the window. Her gaze fell for a moment to look at the sensors beneath her. Looking down and trying to interpret the readings was almost useless. **There really is no point to the sensors.** Her head moved up to look at the window, as she once again reminded herself that the interference from the nebula lowered the readability from the sensors. She noticed Tam looking at her through the corner of her eyes.
"The sensors' readability is skewed by the presence of the nebula. The output of the sensors is not statistically significant. It would be wiser to just scan the area with our eyes."
"That makes sense. No sign of the COLUMBIA yet?" Tam asked as she also looked ahead but kept her hand near her phaser.
"Not yet," T'ial replied as she noticed Tam's hand near her weapon. She was dismayed that she, herself, had not brought along her own weapon since she was a good shot, proficient with her aim. Now, on the ship, she wished she had brought it along, for safety purposes.
McClellan's eyes joined T'ials in scanning for the ship. So far, they were not having any luck. "Keep your eyes peeled," he said as he squinted to look farther.
T'ial suddenly lifted her finger and pointed at the window. "Ahead, there is a large piece of matter heading our way."
"Got it!" McClellan's hands moved swiftly as he tapped the buttons on the panel and moved the craft out of harm's way.
"That was close," Tam said as she felt a wave of relief surge through her.
"It was," T'ial nodded as she looked down at the sensors.
"That looked like metal plating," Tam said as she moved closer to the panel.
"She's right," Kel said with a nod as he kept his eyes peeled for another piece of matter. "T'ial, next time, would you mind giving me an earlier warning?"
"Sorry sir," the Vulcan appologized. "I just noticed it as I looked up from the sensors. I will be more alert next time."
"Check the sensors and identify that chunk of matter," Kel commanded.
"Identifying..." There was a brief pause as T'ial scanned the sensors. "Ensign Tam's suspicions are, in fact, correct. The composite matches the external plating of Starfleet ships." Her hands moved over the sensors. "I believe that the material identified could belong to the COLUMBIA."
