Location: USS COUNTERSTRIKE

Stardate: 2422 [2.7] 0424.0119

Scene: Bridge

The first hour or so of the sweeping had passed rather uneventfully. The
fighters had branched off into their respective flight paths and had done
sweep after sweep without any sort of visual signs as to what was going on.
No sign of any hostile ships and no sign of the runabout with their two
missing officers on it. Things had been so uneventful in fact that the
sudden transmission from the STAR RIDER to the PATRIOT over the open channel
had startled everyone out of a stupor they didn’t even really realize they
were in.

“We need to move our position in order to fill in the gap they just left,”
Daniel said out loud to nobody in particular. “Helm, lay in the following
co-ordinates,” he tapped a few buttons on the armchair in front of him.

“Co-ordinates set,” Dirak reported.

“1/4 impulse.”

“Aye sir,” the experienced hands of the steady Dirak flew across the console
of the COUNTERSTRIKE’s helm station as he quickly and efficiently changed
the position of the ship so that it was now filling the hole that had been
left in the sensor net by the departure of the STAR RIDER. Rather than
being to one side of the PATRIOT the COUNTERSTRIKE was now in front of the
bigger ship and was helping to coordinate the sensor nets from the other
three shuttles.

“The three shuttles had shifted their positions as well to compensate for
the STAR RIDER’s absence,” Logue reported from the Operations terminal.
“This is not the optimal positioning however. If the STAR RIDER’s absence
is going to be prolonged then we should reform the net for optimal
efficiency with four points rather than five.”

“Acknowledged,” Daniel replied. “We’re going to hold position here for a
little while Mr. Logue. I want to see what the STAR RIDER does before
making my move.”

“Yes sir,” Logue replied with a slight nod of his head. The bridge crew
lapsed into silence as the moments ticked by. The tension could be cut with
a knife and each passing moment of silence only served to increase the
tension levels of all of the officers on board.

“There they are!” Logue cried out in triumph as all eyes shifted to the
front to see out into the folds of the nebula. Logue quickly called out the
co-ordinates and soon everybody was able to see the small spec of grey that
denoted the STAR RIDER beginning to grow larger as the runabout made its way
back to the PATRIOT.

“Open a channel,” Daniel ordered, before going on to say, “STAR RIDER, what
is your status?”

[[We’ve taken some damage, but nobody’s injured and the structure is
intact,]] came the report. [[We successfully engaged an enemy hostile and
have two hostiles currently on board in captivity. We will be docking with
the PATRIOT for repairs and prisoner interrogation.]]

“Acknowledged STAR RIDER,” Daniel said, before nodding at Logue. “Signal
the other shuttles to change formation to your specifications.”

“Aye sir,” the man replied, before punching a few buttons on his console.
“Relaying the new co-ordinates to all four helm stations now,” he added
after a few moments of silence. The COUNTERSTRIKE moved its position to the
point designated as optimal by Logue and Daniel could see by looking at the
net that the other three shuttles were also shifting their positions. There
was no telling how long the STAR RIDER would be out of the picture and
therefore a change in the formation to maintain optimal sensor capacity was
definitely indicated.

NRPG: Just keeping things going. I specifically left out talking about the
floating wreck that’s now near us in case somebody else wanted to do
something with it, but if nobody else does anything for a while then I have
no problems dealing with it myself.
