“Marking Time”

Con’t from Maxine/Bethany’s “Removing the Prisoners”

========

Location: USS COUNTERSTRIKE

Stardate: 2422 [2.7] 0425.2316

Scene: Bridge -> Lower Hold -> Bridge

<Note: This takes place roughly during the first part of the excellent JP
written by Maxine and Bethany>

“What now?” Justin Logue asked impatiently from the operations console.
“Are we just going to sit here and maintain the sensor net while the STAR
RIDER is in dock?”

“What would you suggest Mr. Logue?” Daniel asked the man curiously, looking
up from the PADD he had just been reading.

“We should go find the wreckage that the STAR RIDER left in its wake,”
Justin answered. “It might hold some clues as to what’s going on in this
area. Also, why are we just sitting down here on our asses and doing
nothing to find our missing crewmembers? They’re too important for us to
just give up on without a fight!”

“I know how important our two missing crew are Mr. Logue,” Daniel stated
quietly. His voice was quiet, but Dirak, who’d known him the longest,
suspected that the man had some conflicting emotions battling each other
just under the surface of his calm demeanor.

“I know how important they are,” Daniel repeated, this time with more
emotion. “In case you’ve forgotten, one of them is my wife.”

The uncomfortable silence in the room would have been immediately obvious to
a casual observer and for a few beats nobody spoke. Then, Daniel continued.
“Branching off by ourselves is going to accomplish nothing more than ruining
our current search plan at best and quite possibly get us lost in the folds
of this nebula at worst. Our orders are to hold the sensor grid intact and
until we receive further orders from the PATRIOT that is what we are going
to do. Is that understood?”

“Yes sir,” Logue replied, angling his head down to his console. He knew
that Clarkson would allow no more discussion on the subject and as such
chose to remain silent. From the helm, Dirak held a small smile as he
figured that the chances that he would have to relieve Daniel were getting
slimmer by the second as the marine exec was starting to control his
emotions better with each passing moment.

“I’m going to check on the others,” Daniel announced, getting up from the
command chair. “You’re in command until I get back Dirak.”

“Aye sir,” the experienced helm officer replied as Daniel made his way down
the ladder to the lower deck. He spent a few minutes down in the hold,
looking around and chatting with the marines that were waiting to
potentially go into action. Most of the marines were emotionless as they
thought about their mission but some were a little bit nervous and Daniel
talked to these ones for a bit longer, trying to help them alleviate the
nervous energy they had inside. Eventually, he made his way back up to the
main bridge and walked back over to the area in front of his command chair.

“Any word from the ship yet?” he asked.

“None sir,” Logue replied.

Daniel inwardly sighed, taking his seat once more. “Hold our position and
keep assisting the fighters in their recon sweeps,” he ordered.

NRPG: Just marking time until the next plot twist gets revealed, plus I
needed to finish this off fast as I’m still in between exams.

Maxine/Bethany -> Great first joint effort you two!
