======== “Short Discussion” Con’t from Erik’s “Wrap Up” ======== Location: USS PATRIOT Stardate: 2422 [2.7] 0504.1821 Scene: Corridor -> Turbolift -> Corridor Daniel walked out of marine deck and into the corridor, his mind whirling over the conversation that had just happened. All things considered, he felt pretty lucky at having gotten off that easy. In any case, now that was out of the way and he had nothing left to do but finish his report and help nurse Catherine back to full health. He felt a bit better and consequently his step was a bit lighter as he made his way down the corridor and up to the turbolift door. He pressed the recall button and patiently waited for the lift to make its way down to his deck. When the lift doors opened he was surprised to find Commander Kenta on the turbolift. Quietly, Daniel made his way onto the turbolift and called out the deck he wanted to go to. It wasn’t until a few beats of silence had passed that one of the two men chose to speak. “I’m glad to see you back at work sir,” Daniel said with a sidelong glance at his superior officer. “I haven’t fully recovered yet, but thank you Major,” Ben replied. After a few more minutes of silence, “How is Lieutenant Jade?” “She’s still recovering,” Daniel answered. “I left her asleep in our quarters to go down and conference with the Colonel on a couple of matters.” Kenta didn’t reply beyond a small nod of his head and they spent the next few seconds traveling in silence. Finally, Daniel cleared his throat, rather uncomfortably. “Permission to speak freely sir?” he asked. The Commander raised an eyebrow. “Permission granted,” he said. “I know what you did to help save Catherine,” Daniel started. “And I know that what you did more than likely ended up saving her life although at the time it must have seemed like you were just accelerating your own death. I just…I wanted to thank you personally for what you did. I love my wife very much and I’m exceptionally relieved that she’s well on her way to recovering. And I know that I partially have you to thank for that, so I just wanted you to know sir that I am very grateful.” Kenta inclined his head slightly. “I would have done the same for any other member of this crew,” he said, before smiling slightly. “But you’re welcome Major.” The rest of the turbolift ride was uneventful with the two of them discussing the mission that Kenta was going on. Daniel was inwardly relieved that he didn’t have to go out again and also relieved (although he never would have said it out loud) that he wasn’t asked to go on the skeleton crew with the PATRIOT’s Executive Officer. When the lift stopped at his deck he took his leave of the Commander and quickly started heading down the corridor to where his quarters were located. ======== NRPG: There isn’t a whole lot to this; just my way of saying that my exams are over and I’m looking forward to getting back to writing again =) Katie -> Welcome! ======== ========== V.
